great food and good service, you visit here for the steaks, expensive but it is what you expect for a week rated restaurant. i've been here multipletimesand every time the food had been excellent.

a miserable dining experience. as the result of my job and extensive business travel for 35 years, i've enjoyed many fine meals served in numerous top-notch establishments. tonight's experience at southlake's truluck's failed to achieve mediocrity in either category.
i ordered an entree i've enjoyed manytimesbefore in other establishments, blackened redfish with ponchitrain sauce. i'd failed to eat earlier in the day, so i ordered a side of green beans almandine after being told the redfish was presented over rice. when my dinner arrived, the fish was served on top of the green beans, and there was no rice to be found.
bad mistake.
in addition, either the beans or the sauce included a pungent tasting, thin, reddish constituent that - when combined with the richness of the sauce - left me nauseous and unable to finish my meal, even after scraping as much of the offending sauce as possible from my fish. i ended up leaving over half of the food on my plate, as the mystery constituent had succeeded in tainting the rest of the plate's contents as well. surprisingly for a restaurant that so brashly boasts of unmatched service, even this obvious signal that all was not well completely escaped the notice of our waiter, who instead busied himself in banter as he cleared away our plates when the meal ended.
huge mistake.
based on this horrible experience, ifind that i can't recommend truluck's for any occasion. my guests found their selections to be good, but not great, and mine was totally unacceptable. combined with negligent service, and their 5 star pricing, this gets two big thumbs down!
and that's no mistake!

mediocre with great dessert. i have been to the southlake truluck's severaltimesfor special occassions.
sadly, i am always disapointed in the savory foods.
the crab is ok, as ok as plain crab can be. no unique qualities. while i agree that seafood simple is the best way for it to be done, i was still left with a lot of "meh" when i was done.
ciopinno - sadly, it was so bland and unlike anything previously before known as ciopinno that i asked the waiter to just take it away. it was as if someone took a bowl of mixed seafood and poored in warm tomato juice. i was disapointed to say the least. perhaps they have improved it since i was there last, but i wouldnt order it again to check.

the two saving graces, in my opinion, are the wine and the desserts. one of the better creme brule desserts i have had, and i try them every place i go that serves them. carrot cake was delicious and may have beaten hannah's in denton for the honour. chocolate bag (terrible name) is a marvel to look at and pretty good to eat...though the waiters destroy the bag for you, would be more fun if the customer could assault the masterpiece.
like when ed norton beats up jared leto in fight club because he "wanted to destroy something beautiful".

the decor is dated, a bit like dining in the nice dinner area of a cruise ship ala 1972.

and if you dont make reservation, prepare to be snubbed by the hostesses like your trying to eat in a clown suit.

so, perhaps a bit more attention to the menu and a little less on the pompous and i would think it could be good; only dine here if you want a great dessert or someone else is paying.

ehhh. slightly over priced. i have been a fewtimesand i keep expecting it to get better. the crab claws came frozen on the first visit. the actual meals are fine. just not really fine dining. the restaurant is sort of a pig in lipstick. the atomosphere is nice and the waitstaff do a decent job, but the food is more like a red lobster. the bar is pretty nice with live piano talent. all in all, not a bad place to eat and drink, just don't expect the seafood meals to be that great. i may be expecting too much since i am used to eating seafood near the ocean...
