mediocre with great dessert. i have been to thesouthlaketruluck's several times for special occassions.
sadly, i am always disapointed in the savory foods.
the crab is ok, as ok as plain crab can be. no unique qualities. while i agree that seafood simple is the best way for it to be done, i was still left with a lot of "meh" when i was done.
ciopinno - sadly, it was so bland and unlike anything previously before known as ciopinno that i asked the waiter to just take it away. it was as if someone took a bowl of mixed seafood and poored in warm tomato juice. i was disapointed to say the least. perhaps they have improved it since i was there last, but i wouldnt order it again to check.
the two saving graces, in my opinion, are the wine and the desserts. one of the better creme brule desserts i have had, and i try them every place i go that serves them. carrot cake was delicious and may have beaten hannah's in denton for the honour. chocolate bag (terrible name) is a marvel to look at and pretty good to eat...though the waiters destroy the bag for you, would be more fun if the customer could assault the masterpiece.
like when ed norton beats up jared leto in fight club because he "wanted to destroy something beautiful".
the decor is dated, a bit like dining in the nice dinner area of a cruise ship ala 1972.
and if you dont make reservation, prepare to be snubbed by the hostesses like your trying to eat in a clown suit.
so, perhaps a bit more attention to the menu and a little less on the pompous and i would think it could be good; only dine here if you want a great dessert or someone else is paying.
