don't expect french quality. that is just the name.
when a restaurant poaches their eggs in cups and offer their cappuccinos with "cream or foam?", you know this is not a french restaurant, but a pretentious and sadly pretoria-ish joint, with all the non-flair that pretoria has in such abundance
was very disappointed to have chosen thisplaceas my birthday breakfast with the boss.

our evening began well, there was a welcoming fire although very few guests. we arrived at 7.30 and ordered starters. our intention was to have a meal over about 3 hours as we hadn't had dinner with our guests for three months. the starters looked fantastic on the menu and 3 out of 4 were good but the sauce on the clam and mussels was overpowering. we then ordered mains which were very disappointing. the sauces on the rack of lamb and the fillet medalions were salty and overbearing.
it was now 9.00 and we were told to order our deserts and coffee because the kitchen was closing ! just incase we stayed too long the fire was out and the front door open so theplacewas now rather chilli and the coffee was cold. the only saving grace was our waiter, bekki, who was new, having been there two weeks and had no knowledge of the dishes he was serving, was attentive, discreet and friendly. we would not choose to return there.

a restaurant that will make any occasion special!!
i love everything french and have been wanting to eat here since the day they opened their doors so when our first wedding anniversary was around the corner - it only seemed right to try it out. our anniversary was on a sunday so we were looking for someplacepeaceful, intimate with delicious food and that is exactly what we found!
we were blown away by the menu options and could not choose what we wanted to eat. duck towers, mussel pots, camembert rolled in parma-ham, everything sounded amazing... we were planning on only eating a main course but ended up going all out with a three course meal! we were impressed by their presentation, portion sizes and of course their execution. the food was amazing and so was the staff!
we will have to go again to experience their romantic evening atmosphere. they have a great set menu for friday's & saturday's for a really decent price - if you consider what you are getting!

pinned in the heart of old waterkloof, this quaintplacelooks enticing from the entrance. don't be fooled as thisplacegrows in stature as you move into the restaurant. crisp white tables at the back and more casual red parisian tables close to the entrance. their menus are a bit pricey but you do get what you pay for. today i opted for a lovely frittata and was pleasantly satisfied. flavourfully prepared food and service friendly although a bit timeous, made my visit one where i appreciated the uniqueness of the setting. they have a mean wine cellar and i can't wait to visit again.

fantastic! this restaurant really is a hidden jem tucked away in the suburbs of waterkloof! it's atmosphere is warm and inviting and has two very distinct personalities; a relaxed european coffee shop/bistro in the front, and a upmarket french fine dining section in the rear. the service was superb, not once did we feel neglected and the staff were very knowledgeable. as for the food itself, the quality was excellent! from the foie gras to the steak, every dish was mouth-watering and we will definitely be back for more! for those of you that might feel that this could get a bit pricey, they do offer all you can eat pasta and pizza on monday's as well as affordable set menus on sundays! so, do yourself a favour and give thisplacea try, you won't be disappointed!

brilliant 👌 i absolutely love the way this restaurant disguised itself. i promise, when i was shown to thisplacei was like, oh hell, it's a cheap cafe... and then, i followed my way through the front and to my surprise i was welcome to an amazing setting with dimmed lights and a classy atmosphere. i loved it. honestly, if i had to take someone i'm crazy about for a date i would certainly take them here in the summer and sit outside by the dripping fountains and think i'm in paris. the owners need to be praised for their good work and i think i'm going to do it. the waiters and manager went out of their way. the chef actually came to the table and explained what's the highlights. we followed the advise and had the entre of snails served with fresh herbs. the springbok capriccio served with orate dressing and caramelized nuts drove us crazy! for mains we had the mignon on boite which is slithers of filler served with a creamy mustard and mushroom sauce. the rack of lamb with mustard, chimichurri, honey and mint was a melody of flavours in every bite. the desserts however were all absolutely a disaster. but, and there's a but, it the texture of the pana cota was better, i think it would be the best one o would've had in my life. and trust me, i'm a big fan of pana cota! i will continue trying thisplaceand whenever i have the opportunity to visit i must certainly will go and give constructive criticism. thisplacehas big big big potential. i love it 👌 i will give them the visit of the month.

finally! we've somehow been postponing our visit here so long that by coincidence we visited in their birthday week. what a night.

upon arrival it seemed very quiet, like all nights we've passed by, but then you realize the biggest part is actually down in the belly of the three ducks.

the decor transforms to a more formal setting and some modernist art impressed me. we struck gold as the birthday special offered us a three course meal at a fraction of the normal price.

steak tartare for starters, fillet with mussels for mains and a pistachio panna cotta for dessert is how it played out for me.

the dishes were all beautifully presented and lived up to my expectations. the oily richness of the mussels went fantastic with the fillet. i'd recommend this dish.

it's a goodplacefor a intimate date or event. i also think the outside area would be great in summer with some rose.

the three ducks - les trois canards 💁🏼👌🏼

looking for theplaceis a bit of a drama as there isn't any proper signs to show theplaceand i legit went to the wrong restaurant at first haha. as you enter you'd think its a small crappy restaurant but as you walk through it just envelopes into something so amazing and romantic. the restaurant is dim light with that romance that emanates the with a fireplacethat just adds to the ambiance of the restaurant.

i absolutely love that they kept to the french theme to the point where the waiters are even dressed to the t with red berets👊🏼
it was really nice that the chef himself actually came out and made a few recommendations to the menu. the fact that while dining my favorite movie quote by tim burton came to mind - "your cup shall never empty for i shall be your wine" and that's exactly what happened, the waiters were so attentive and on point that my glass was never empty.

the starters i had the escargots which was really done to perfection and this alone set the standard so high so was really keen for the mains. i had a bit of the springbok carpaccio which was so delicious, the orange just brings a whole new flavor to the dish.

for mains i was very intrigued by the mignon on boite - slithers of fillet served with creamy mustard and mushroom sauce. wow!! was i blown away by this dish!! i feel like they really out did themselves here hey.

we then proceed to the desserts and since the food was soooo amazing i had really high expectations for the dessert and unfortunately was left really disappointed. i had the butterscotch toffee pudding, one bite and my facial expression said it all. the texture was horrible, felt like i was eating rubber. i then had some of the panacotta which also had an unusual texture - it was really stiff, perhaps too much gelatine? and then of course had some of the creme brule and yet again disappointed as it was very bland, lacked sugar and had a burnt taste from the caramalized top.

the food was really amazing and the ambiance added to it. i will definitely be back to try more dishes and perhaps give the dessert another shot 💁🏼

this was my first zomato meetup, so whoop whoop ya'll! once again, thanks to zomato and le trois canards for the opportunity to sit down and talk k@k with fellow foodies :) a good night coupled with great company.

my first impression of le trois canards, was to ask the car guard where it is. they definitely need better signage in front. looking at the venue from the street, you would mistake it for  a tiny little cafe and you would totally miss out on the main dining area at the back. upon entering the venue, i was greeted by friendly faces in a relaxed and very inviting atmosphere and was promptly shown to our table. as i entered the main dining area, i saw a transformation takeplacefrom the cute cafe, to the eloquent restaurant. the main dining area has a cozy fireplace, coupled with an array of wines on display in a fairly well thought out space. the only suggestion for this area would be to have better lighting. like, please, please, please.

the wait staff were extremely attentive (i dont think that my wine glass ever ran dry), but i will be back to attest this without the zomato name badge. they did get one of the starter orders wrong, but apart from that, there were no issues. the waiters new the menu fairly well and were they did not know certain details, they were quick to find out from the chef.

now, down to the food. we were served with bread baskets while we waited for our table to get settled. i cant comment on it, as i wasnt too interested in it, but everyone else seemed to enjoy it. i had the springbok carpaccio starter, which i found to be a beautiful combination of flavours. the carpaccio itself didnt blow my taste buds out of the park, but it was still nice. again, the combination of ingredients was the real winner here and i would definitely recommend it to anyone. for me, the winning starter of the evening was the escargots. wow! uber wow! a mouth full of deliciousness.

for mains i has the mignon, served with a creamy mushroom sauce. while this was good, i found the sauce to be a wee bit salty, while others found it to have a bit too much mustard. the sauce is still a great pairing for the fillet either way and i'd definitely recommend it. the best dish for me was the rack of lamb. good lord this was awesome. while i agree with everyone that the fat needed to be rendered a bit more, i aint complaining. i've had dreams about that single bit of lamb ever since. this one gets a 10/10.

to finish off our evening (and our wine), i had the pistachio panna cotta. this one was a bit of a disappointment, as it was way too gelatinous. if that problem is solved, it would be a seriously amazing desert. the panna cotta itself is accompanied by (what we assume is) a turkish delight  sauce (almost a coulis) and has got to be one of the best desert sauces i've ever had in my existence. tru dat! hats off to the chef for this one.

le trois canards has the perfect setting for a romantic meal. the staff are attentive and fairly well trained (still some room for growth here). i seriously rate this menu guys and i must say, one look at the menu and i was hooked. if some of the minor details in the dishes are sorted out, it will justify the prices asked for the meals, but a compromise is needed on the price.

overall it was still a fantastic evening and i'll definitely be back here.

a french restaurant in waterkloof. what sets thisplaceapart is the chef albert, or papa, as he is affectionally called. papa spent his first years in france but grew up in castile region of spain. the last twenty /thirty years he lived in and loved south africa. this is reflected in the food at les trois canards. french/ mediteranean and robust in flavour. i had calamari sauteed in butter, garlic and chilli. tender calamari with punchy flavours. needed some bread to mop up the juices - asked for and were promptly provided.
fillet of beef with cheesy jalapeno sauce was delicious. baby carrots, green beans all dente and perfect potato croquets completed the meal.
we still had some of the delicious cederberg cabernet souvignon left and therefore requested a cheese board. though not on the menu, it was gladly provided. a fitting end to a good meal.
thank you papa

last night i had delicious and healthy melanzane for a starter and deboned & grilled half chicken - tender, juicy with a wonderful chicken liver brandy cream sauce. served with delicious veggies and perfectly cooked risotto. ambience wondeful!

this quaint spot took up the space left by one of my favourite restaurants in pretoria. they have converted the space very well and theplacelooks very good. the food was delicious and their croissants freshly baked on the spot. could not fault a thing and the service was speedy and friendly.
