we both hadfilletsteaks for lunch. food was good though the the steak was slightly overdone relative to the preference requested. service was competent though not polished! on the downside a number of "floating staff" who are pretty noisy and not seeming to add value!

amazing experience tonight! considering a bag of mixed reviews, we were very nicely surprised! unassuming from the outside but once you’re inside the ambience is lovely. very friendly, attentive service; great value for money. we had the lamb shank andfilletmedallions - both were exceptional, cooked to perfection! thanks three ducks!

our evening began well, there was a welcoming fire although very few guests. we arrived at 7.30 and ordered starters. our intention was to have a meal over about 3 hours as we hadn't had dinner with our guests for three months. the starters looked fantastic on the menu and 3 out of 4 were good but the sauce on the clam and mussels was overpowering. we then ordered mains which were very disappointing. the sauces on the rack of lamb and thefilletmedalions were salty and overbearing.
it was now 9.00 and we were told to order our deserts and coffee because the kitchen was closing ! just incase we stayed too long the fire was out and the front door open so the place was now rather chilli and the coffee was cold. the only saving grace was our waiter, bekki, who was new, having been there two weeks and had no knowledge of the dishes he was serving, was attentive, discreet and friendly. we would not choose to return there.

we have read reviews about les trois canards for a couple of months now, so was very excited to finally experience it for ourselves!

as some of the previous reviews state, don't be mislead by the reataurant's exterior and streetview - from the outside it looks like a french streetcafé where you can have a quick panini and coffee. but as you walk through the front café, the beautiful background music sets the atmosphere fitting the serene vibe of the restaurant at the back - crisp white tablecloths, shiny wineglasses and the trickle of water from the ducks waterfountain ...feels like you walked into a paris restaurant!

our waiter don greeted us as we entered the restaurant and accompanied us to our table, ready with menu's. he was professional and friendly throughout and served us well.

the food was outstanding! we ordered the lamb shank with rosemary as well as the rack of lamb, both beautifully tender with an amazing subtle rosemary flavour. the brandy and peppersauce steak was perfectly medium as we requested and the sauce creamy and well balanced. thefilletmedalions with camembert and cranberry sauce was our dish of the day - tender and soft with ample sauce, well balanced with the camembert cheese.

regretfully we did not have dessert.... will have to return for it!

overall an amazing eating experience and special family quality time - highly recommend this restaurant!

went there for lunch - celebrating a birthday. my first time. walked in and i liked what i saw....white tablecloths, lots of glasses on the table, flowers on the table. the menu matched the place, nice selection of french dishes...here and there a dish that made no sense but all in all happy until the food start arriving...... starter: foie gras (r149) consisted of a sliver (not bigger than 5cm x 1cm x 0.3cm) on three small toasted rounds of bread. the consistency of the foie gras was crumbly not smooth. balsamic reduction spattered all over plate. did not make sense. the biggest rip-off if ever i have seen one! mains:fillet(medium rare with snails) the snails were overcooked - a bit mushy.filletrare - but good. served on mash. the vegetables accompanying it (serve separately) was cold chips and a greek salad?! fish provencale.....the worst i have ever eaten. the delicate white wine was a sauce resembling wall paper glue and tasted of vinegar. it looks like it comes out of a packet as there where green specs evenly distributed in sauce with raw cherry tomatoes and cold kalamata olives. the kingklip were overcooked. desserts: pistachio pana cotta. the wobble was more like a bounce. was grey and tasted nothing of pistachio. so once we ate our desserts, a peppermint crisp tart on a plate with happy birth-day (yes...i kid you not!) written on it. the manager did made an appearance half way through the mains, i did complain which resulted in him disappearing for the rest of lunch. i also left my name and number with request that an owner phone me in order for me to discuss this dismal experience, but nothing yet. such a great pity as setting and ambiance nice, maybe they must change menu to reflect their expertise and not try to be french when clearly the chef do not understand the french way of cooking.

this is probably our favourite restaurant in the whole of pta. as you walk in by the front door you are immediately greeted by a friendly hostess and takes you to a table. the décor and layout of the restaurant is absolutely stunning. you are given menus and a wine connoisseur comes to you and starts explain all the wine to you (his knowledge is very impressive). love to start with starters and the steak tartare is my absolute favourite. so many different tastes in one dish.they bring out freshly baked bread with the most amazing smears. cant get enough of it.the main courses are to die for. from the gourmet burgers to the most tenderfilletsteaks (and if you think its just a plainfilletyou're wrong. think of something that pairs withfilletand its there.)when it comes to desert you are really spoiled for choice. the portions are big enough just to have enough (i must admit sometimes it was so nice that i just craved more).by the way, i didn't mention their breakfast. best breakfast in town and better value for money than most franchise restaurants.i would recommend this restaurant to everyone. if i could've kept this gem to myself i defiantly would've.   food and service 12 out of 10.

finally! we've somehow been postponing our visit here so long that by coincidence we visited in their birthday week. what a night.

upon arrival it seemed very quiet, like all nights we've passed by, but then you realize the biggest part is actually down in the belly of the three ducks.

the decor transforms to a more formal setting and some modernist art impressed me. we struck gold as the birthday special offered us a three course meal at a fraction of the normal price.

steak tartare for starters, filletwith mussels for mains and a pistachio panna cotta for dessert is how it played out for me.

the dishes were all beautifully presented and lived up to my expectations. the oily richness of the mussels went fantastic with the fillet. i'd recommend this dish.

it's a good place for a intimate date or event. i also think the outside area would be great in summer with some rose.

the three ducks - les trois canards 💁🏼👌🏼

looking for the place is a bit of a drama as there isn't any proper signs to show the place and i legit went to the wrong restaurant at first haha. as you enter you'd think its a small crappy restaurant but as you walk through it just envelopes into something so amazing and romantic. the restaurant is dim light with that romance that emanates the with a fire place that just adds to the ambiance of the restaurant.

i absolutely love that they kept to the french theme to the point where the waiters are even dressed to the t with red berets👊🏼
it was really nice that the chef himself actually came out and made a few recommendations to the menu. the fact that while dining my favorite movie quote by tim burton came to mind - "your cup shall never empty for i shall be your wine" and that's exactly what happened, the waiters were so attentive and on point that my glass was never empty.

the starters i had the escargots which was really done to perfection and this alone set the standard so high so was really keen for the mains. i had a bit of the springbok carpaccio which was so delicious, the orange just brings a whole new flavor to the dish.

for mains i was very intrigued by the mignon on boite - slithers offillet served with creamy mustard and mushroom sauce. wow!! was i blown away by this dish!! i feel like they really out did themselves here hey.

we then proceed to the desserts and since the food was soooo amazing i had really high expectations for the dessert and unfortunately was left really disappointed. i had the butterscotch toffee pudding, one bite and my facial expression said it all. the texture was horrible, felt like i was eating rubber. i then had some of the panacotta which also had an unusual texture - it was really stiff, perhaps too much gelatine? and then of course had some of the creme brule and yet again disappointed as it was very bland, lacked sugar and had a burnt taste from the caramalized top.

the food was really amazing and the ambiance added to it. i will definitely be back to try more dishes and perhaps give the dessert another shot 💁🏼

this dining experience was thanks to zomato inviting me to my first foodie meetup, where i was welcomed by friendly foodies and the great staff of the three ducks. the restaurant is quaint with the main dining area hidden quite far back past the initial setting you see from the road.

the restaurant is dimly lit with a roaring fire, creating an intimate and "romantic" setting. the staff are very friendly and attentive, and helped in making the night an enjoyable one!

as for the food -
the bread basket and dips were very tasty as the dips were not the usual ones you'd get anywhere else. the breads were all warm and toasted, served fresh and in abundance.

the starters and mains were truly authentic and cooked to perfection. the chef came to explain and recommend meals to us, helping us decide what we should have from their extensive and enticing menu.

for starters i had the springbok carpaccio, and tasted the snails as well as calamari.
the flavours that came with the springbok were a great combination, pairing oranges with the meat and complimenting the meal as a whole.
the calamari was also tasty, and even better when having all components together, creating a burst of flavours. (the cheese being the most interesting and flavoursome ingredient)

mains were by far the tastiest meals of the evening. i had the rack of lamb which was cooked to perfection and could be pulled off the bone. the meat was however a bit fatty, unfortunately. thefilletserved with mushroom and mustard sauce was also delicious; cooked and served perfectly.

the desserts were, unfortunately, the most disappointing options of the evening. the creme brulee was quite bland and had an unusual texture, the panacotta was a bit too stiff, and the butterscotch toffee pudding lacked flavour and also had an unusual texture. i am unsure if this is how french desserts are made/served, but they were not the "normal" puddings i am used to.

overall, this restaurant was an amazing experience and i will definitely revisit to try some other meals.

this was my first zomato meetup, so whoop whoop ya'll! once again, thanks to zomato and le trois canards for the opportunity to sit down and talk k@k with fellow foodies :) a good night coupled with great company.

my first impression of le trois canards, was to ask the car guard where it is. they definitely need better signage in front. looking at the venue from the street, you would mistake it for  a tiny little cafe and you would totally miss out on the main dining area at the back. upon entering the venue, i was greeted by friendly faces in a relaxed and very inviting atmosphere and was promptly shown to our table. as i entered the main dining area, i saw a transformation take place from the cute cafe, to the eloquent restaurant. the main dining area has a cozy fireplace, coupled with an array of wines on display in a fairly well thought out space. the only suggestion for this area would be to have better lighting. like, please, please, please.

the wait staff were extremely attentive (i dont think that my wine glass ever ran dry), but i will be back to attest this without the zomato name badge. they did get one of the starter orders wrong, but apart from that, there were no issues. the waiters new the menu fairly well and were they did not know certain details, they were quick to find out from the chef.

now, down to the food. we were served with bread baskets while we waited for our table to get settled. i cant comment on it, as i wasnt too interested in it, but everyone else seemed to enjoy it. i had the springbok carpaccio starter, which i found to be a beautiful combination of flavours. the carpaccio itself didnt blow my taste buds out of the park, but it was still nice. again, the combination of ingredients was the real winner here and i would definitely recommend it to anyone. for me, the winning starter of the evening was the escargots. wow! uber wow! a mouth full of deliciousness.

for mains i has the mignon, served with a creamy mushroom sauce. while this was good, i found the sauce to be a wee bit salty, while others found it to have a bit too much mustard. the sauce is still a great pairing for thefilleteither way and i'd definitely recommend it. the best dish for me was the rack of lamb. good lord this was awesome. while i agree with everyone that the fat needed to be rendered a bit more, i aint complaining. i've had dreams about that single bit of lamb ever since. this one gets a 10/10.

to finish off our evening (and our wine), i had the pistachio panna cotta. this one was a bit of a disappointment, as it was way too gelatinous. if that problem is solved, it would be a seriously amazing desert. the panna cotta itself is accompanied by (what we assume is) a turkish delight  sauce (almost a coulis) and has got to be one of the best desert sauces i've ever had in my existence. tru dat! hats off to the chef for this one.

le trois canards has the perfect setting for a romantic meal. the staff are attentive and fairly well trained (still some room for growth here). i seriously rate this menu guys and i must say, one look at the menu and i was hooked. if some of the minor details in the dishes are sorted out, it will justify the prices asked for the meals, but a compromise is needed on the price.

overall it was still a fantastic evening and i'll definitely be back here.

a magnifique dining experience!

les trois canards is a chic, cozy french restaurant in waterkloof. i really enjoyed the ambience at our zomato foodie meet up.

the bread basket was delightful!

i had the springbok carpaccio with an orange dressing and caramelized nuts as a starter. the flavours were delicately balanced and the portion size was ideal.

my main meal was the mignon on boite, slithers offilletserved in a creamy mustard and mushroom sauce. it was accompanied by mixed vegetables and potato croquettes. it was delish!

i must say that i was a tad disappointed by the creme brulee as it was too dense.

the serving staff were in top form with very attentive waiters.

a very special thank you to the chef and management for this foodie experience! i will definitely be back!

the saying goes... don't judge a book by its cover and with most restaurants in pretoria i was pleasantly surprised. what a beautiful restaurant! welcomed by friendly staff who were all dressed in red berets, simplistic decor featuring black and white floors with white linen. i really enjoyed the menu that was prepared for the zomato foodies. a variety of bread and butters were served on arrival. my favourite dish had to be the calamari, pear and roquefort salad. thefilletsteak was prepared to perfection. the desserts that were served were not the most pleasant as i didn't enjoy the creme brûlée, which is a difficult dish to perfect. despite desserts not being great, the service was commendable, the waiters are attentive, management is always in line of sight and it was wonderful to meet the chef! merci beaucoup

great location and simple yet sophisticated decor. simply menu, so many restaurants try to provide an extensive menu and end up doing lots of dishes mediocre. baby calamari was interesting, filletwith cheese and jalapeño sauce delicious, butfilletwith brandy, mustard and mushrooms was the best. beautiful fluffy peppermint crisp tart. great place

on arrival for supper at the three ducks we were most impressed by the decor which creates an informal and relaxed atmosphere.
we were taken to our table and soon after being seated our waiter presented us with the wine list. a good selection of wine was available at affordable prices.
the chef explained the menu to us and offered the specials of the evening. he also told us that the menu changed weekly.
first on the menu were five entres. we ordered the deconstructed steak tartare and french onion soup, both dishes being exquisite.
six dishes were offered as plat pricipal. we both ordered poison bom femme, filletof hake grilled to perfection with an ementaller glaze. this was served on a bed of crispy cooked vegetables.. a side plate of french fries accompanied the dish. this is well worth trying.
two desserts were on the menu. we ordered tiramisu which which was not only delicious, but also beautifully presented.
the service was excellent and our waiter deserved a ten out of ten.
the three ducks is not just your ordinary restaurant, but one which gives you a truly gastronomic experience.
