the chips, amazing - these are "proper" chips! pie special, yum, home made soda bread, delicious. great irish bar with all the little extras that make you want to go back again and again.

we had another great night at the last jar tonight for a christmas catch up with friends. the steaks are always fantastic and the fish & chips delicious. the guinness and other local beers on tap help the whole night along. a great pub, lovely dining room and run by good people.

been twice - had steak. amazing! only to have food envy of the pork belly my friends had off the specials board! nice place, nice people, nice food, good selection of beers.

great hearty gastro pub food in a friendly atmosphere. a great place to while away a sunday afternoon. a good meaty menu with just he right size portions.

jarring impressions. last week, i was looking for a north melbourne restaurant for a night out. i chose here and booked. it was a friday evening and when we entered were a bit taken aback by a packed pub full of the fluro crew getting peceedingly drunk. apart from the yobo's, this place is a gem. the staff very friendly, and the food, wow. flavoursome entreé's. the steak's were just cooked perfectly and really great cuts. if you're north of the city looking for a bar, try a pub instead called the last jar.

worth the wait. i ordered a rump steak from a specially fed cow that was apparently hugged with someone whispering soothing words in its ear just as it was slaughtered. the steak was really thick, cooked to perfection as per my request...medium > rare and incredibly tender. i thought $28 was a very fair price, given the quality. it did take an hour to arrive...and the flustered waiter detracted from otherwise good service. the last jar has the option of eating in the bar (which we did). the dining room was packed out and bookings are solid for a month. i love the ambiance of this place. its a real pub, with little nooks and open spaces to accommodate large gatherings or more intimate eating. its not some contrived irish pub and they will also run a tab for you...sensible.

check this place out. its nice to support your friendly local pub owner especially this one. siobhan is lovely and remembers you from when you were there last. the chips with curry sauce with a pint of guinness is my kind of afternoon.

best hearty pub meal ever!. this place is brilliant. we ate in the bar area rather than the dining room and had a cosy spot next to the fire place. there aren't that many tables so it still has a real pub feel. the food was truly outstanding with flavour being king. make sure you are hungry as these are some hearty portions. big basket of bread (the oat bread was devine) for mopping up the delicious broth that made up part of the dublin cobbler (a sausage and potato stew) and the irish stew. the black and white pudding were a great starter for a cold night. and the side of brussel sprouts, bacon and walnuts was delicious. i can't wait to go back for a full irish breakfast just to have some of the bacon again. in a way i don't want any body else to know about this place just so i can keep it to myself.

great irish bar. i have yet to be disappointed with this place. every time the food and the service is amazing. unfortunately i've never had the chance to eat in the restaurant, but i think the bar menu is the same.

the guinness is the best that i've had in melbourne.

the stew is always a winner.

it is a bit on the pricey side, but that shouldn't put anybody off as this is not just your regular irish bar that your goin to for the feed. it's well worth every buck.

great taste and prices. i've eaten at the last jar three times and each dish has been really tasty every time staff are friendly and prices great value. give it a try and you won't be disappointed.

as an irish man i can say it does a good pint of guinness and isn't a tacky irish bar either. lunch wasn't cheap but delicious

hospitality at its best. great bar, very warm and inviting.
the staff are very friendly and welcoming.
my partner and i sat in the snug (very cosy) and although the bar was busy never once waited for a drink, great hospitality and a great venue.

one of the most authentic theme pubs in melboune. the food is great and the guinness is even better.
