excellent non-pretentious irish pub. thestaffare very friendly and certainly know how to pour a pint. the decor is what you'd expect from an irish pub and there is a wood fire which really hits the ticket on cold winter nights. i had the irish coddle and although it needed some seasoning with salt and pepper, it was delicious and reminded me of when my mum would make it for me as a kid. at only $20 it was fantastic value and very filling. their house shiraz was very smooth and great value for happy hour at $7 when so many house wines in melbourne are barely drinkable.

thestaffhere are so friendly and the food was absolutely delicious! the portions are good for an empty stomach and i recommend the pigs ears for starters: they are delicious to snack on. definitely recommend the last jar for dinner and/or a few quiet drinks on the rooftop.

best guiness in melbourne!
finally a bar that isn't overrun by hipsters and horrid wait staff.
the atmosphere is really great and thestaffare amazing!
my favourite by far!!!

the menu was small and wasn't really to our liking and because they had been busy, 2 of the few mains weren't available so all four of us stuck to steaks.steaks were really good, well cooked, melt in your mouth stuff! chips were... not chips. more like the largest thick cut spuds on the planet but well seasoned and a massive hit. salad consisted of onion and lettuce and was drowned in oil, wasn't touched by anyone on the table. a bit pricey but good food and friendlystaffso will come back again.

nice irish. was looking for a irish pub with traditional irish fare,think we have found it,a good pub when visiting the viccy market,thestaffwere more than helpful,explaining the menu to us,and the food was delicious,as was the killkenny beer,had the musells and the irsh coddle,how good,as was the bread,and a good day was had by all

thestaffand venue were great. i recently booked a table for 18 friends post covid restrictions and they were very accommodating. they organised us to sit in a private dinning area and allowed us 2-3 tables. food was lovely and drinks were reasonably priced. highly recommend this pub to others and will be back again!

i came back and i was slightly happier with the food this time.  though, i know what a lamb loin looks like it isn't the lamb backstrap i got served.  yes it was well cooked and yes the lamb caramel was terrific and i actually think replacing the mushy peas with well cooked kale was preferable. so i'd order that dish again.  for starters, the 3 fish fingers (more than ample sized at about 15 cms long) were made in house but on the burnt end of the fried spectrum, so the kitchenstaffcould pay better attention. there was an ample amount lemon myrtle creme fraiche which was needed because of the dried out crust.

sometimes you don't want to go anywhere fancy for a drink with friends but you also don't want sticky floors or bad beer. that's where the last jar comes into it. slapped onto a otherwise pretty boring corner of carlton, this pub is a great place for a casual drink with a group of mates. in summer their rooftop courtyard (not an actual rooftop with a view but it is up stairs and open to the sky) is nice to sit in. the indoor areas are cosy and have a open fireplace in winter.

food is great if your hungry and love meat, for vegetarians it's a little lacking in substance and not the cheapest meal around. beer selection is good - carlton beer snobs you won't be disappointed. laid back, pub style and relaxedstaffmake it a great local pub. it's really not that far from the cbd or vic markets too if you need somewhere different to try.

we have an irish friend who raved about this place. would've loved to have visited with him. but he has moved on to new things in germany. however, we did manage to get in this week for lunch only to find it has changed hands. we got a few dishes off the lunch menu. $15 including a drink! great deal, even with only a few options, but it does cater to all i think. the food was great, perfect portions for lunch. i loved the rustic feel of the room. will definitely be back to try out the dinner. thestaffsaid to expect a new menu. we'll keep you posted.

took a group of 25 here today, and the service, food and friendliness ofstaffwas excellent. even with such a large group of people the quality of the food was maintained. the atmosphere of this pub is cool and inviting and will definitely be going back there, definitely worth a go!!

went there for lunch.. the place has a nice ambiance; it has an irish pub slash cozy dinning feel to it. thestaffare very accommodating and friendly. the food was great. the servings are quite sumptuous, so being a bit pricey was alright. i will go back for sure.

food is gorgeous!. went here after seeing a gig at the drunken poet. ordered the scotch eggs, crumbed garlic mushrooms, fish and chips, the steak--all of them were absolute winners. servings are huge, and thestaffare quite friendly. will definitely go back to try out other items on the menu.

nevertheless it was a rule bend that paid off in spades as the last jar was absolutely fantastic! firstly, the place was pumping, we only just managed to secure a table but thestaff(each served with a thick irish accent) were super accommodating.  this place is half bar half restaurant and, as their website aptly states, ‘the last jar is everything you won’t see in a run of the mill irish-pub franchise’ so don’t go there expecting to order a parma. we started the night with some
