oh so close to getting 5 stars.

the food was delicious, fast and the bento box meal was very plentiful. i had the gyoza entree but the bento is very filling by itself.

the service was friendly and efficient but once i was served my meal that was it, they never came back to check on anything. the next time i talked to astaffmember was as i was paying on the way out.

note zomato is not widely used in dunedin with most places having more recent reviews on google.

good food , goodstaffand good service,sashimi and sushi very fresh , 3 of us ordered the jitsu bento (fish butteryaki and mixed tempura ) was very delicious and in big portion. we really enjoy the dishes here.

super cheap. the menu looked amazing. enjoyed the bento box. it was a bit crowded for my liking, but then i'm told it gets quite busy most times. so a reservation would be recommended.staffare friendly.

for its price , would definitely go back.

food is decent. i've been here a couple times and have found that although none of it is amazing, it is still okay to good. this is fine though as the price point is more than attractive.

we booked in advance to come here, (thankfully as it was super packed). it's not surprising this place is so popular considering the food is cheap and really good quality.

we ordered the sashimi bento, spicy chicken jitsu plate, 2x chicken teriyaki bento and 1 karage chicken bento

the meals were served with miso which was very nice and this was served very quickly after ordering. the actual mains took a little while longer - but it was super busy on a friday night so we weren't fussed. all the meals were super good! love bentos as you can try a variety of different things. my friends spicy chicken platter wasn't very spicy so she wasn't the biggest fan. the only downside is they didn't give us kamemeshi rice rather than plain (you get the choice) with the bentos and there wasn't an explanation to why that was. but that wasn't too big of a deal anyway

courteousstaffand a bustly atmosphere in the evening...if yiu want quiet, tgen this is not tour spot but if you want a 'bon vivant' type environment with decent food and good service..then this is your place...good range of food...but do not expect a 4 star food quality....it is what it is...just fresh good day to day food...overall good experience.

if you're looking for value for your hard earned money - this is the place.

great honest good japanese food, good selection and drinks. it's great how they offer japanese beer, it compliments the meal well. the pricing is fantastic.
i recommend a scoop of green tea ice cream to finish the meal off - tasty and cheap.

my experience with service is that they are usually slow coming to your table to take orders. i've had to go up to the counter myself most of the time. but again, i'm not too worried. but once your order has been taken, food arrives quickly and thestaffare polite.

for great tasting food and value - i'm not expecting super decor. it's comfortable. sometimes a little unclean... but hey, i come here for a casual outing, nothing more. i've gone to many overpriced japanese restaurants that may be nicer in decor, but they don't come close to the price and quality of food.

i always walk away satisfied.

we eat here commonly and have found it to be fantastic when they're sorted. we did eat there one evening and they were out of 3 staple menu items: tofu, edamame, and sake. otherwise, the food is always delicious and thestaffare always great!

love the jitsu, only problem is their reservation system, we go there frequently and it's empty but every table is 'reserved', however, a few times we have been able to convince them we will be quick, and manage to eat before the reservation time. time could be utilized a bit more efficiently like this. otherwise you can tell thestaffwork very hard and we always leave feeling satisfied!

probably the best japanese in town. very tasty sushi, sashimi, and dons. like most japanese places in town, the jitsu is filipino-owned, but puts considerable attention into producing authentic food. the central location, range of seating options, and friendlystaffare also big pluses.

we go there regularly and take all our friends there too and really love it.mostly we order bentos which are really delicious and great value but we have liked everything we tried! thestaffare really friendly, sometimes a bit overwhelmed by the many people wanting to dine there but that is understandable as it is such a great place to eat out.

the jitsu is an all round wonderful dining experience. we have been going there regularly for 3 years and the food is consistently delicious and reasonably priced, with something for the whole family - which includes a fussy 12 year old, a seafood addict and a vegetarian. apparently this "something for everyone" approach resonates for all, as businessmen and ladies-who-lunch mingle daily with students and families at the jitsu. thestaffare efficient, polite and helpful. they are very tolerant of our often restless toddler! how many restaurants can you take your baby to and not feel like the record is grinding to a halt and everyone is staring and mumbling "bad parents" as she repeatedly drops her toys on the floor and wails like a banshee?! at jitsu they simply smile, tell us how adorable she is and bring her some paper and crayons (no baby-girl that isn't an entree). the jitsu's owners george and bernadette take the time to get to know their regulars and make them feel special. they once surprised us with a free glass of bubbly when they found out it was our anniversary. the ambience is delightfully relaxed with soothing music, a large floor-seated dining area for groups, and a selection of tables and private booths. recently we showed up on a whim when they were full and they bought in a table from outside so we didn't miss out. the jitsu has a loyalty card system to reward their frequent flyers and can also arrange out-catering. i ordered some for my 30th and it was delicious! if you are looking for the ideal japanese meal in dunedin look no further than the jitsu on lower stuart street. a+++

p.s if you're a vegetarian i suggest you try their agadashi tofu as a starter. they also have wonderful sushi and nigiri platters. yum!

come here regularly as food is delicious and atmosphere is great. thestaffare friendly and don't push you out the door at closing time. highly recommended!

this was an amazing night. thestaffwere very friendly and helpful. the food was just amazing. the oriental salad is a must!
there were a few downsides but the positives r way too strong.
