very satisfying meal especially when you need to refuel. large portion of bento box.generous serving of rice. seafood nicely lightly battered and complimented well with pickled and fresh side dishes. sizzling tofu was soft, nicely cooked. green tea was fantastic takes me back to japan. miso soup was ok,goodfor a cold dunedin weather. prompt service. just found it a bit dark where we sat.

not the freshest ingredients butgoodfood for cheap, quick friendly service and large menu. used to eat spicy chicken katsu on rice weekly!

good food ,goodstaff andgoodservice,sashimi and sushi very fresh , 3 of us ordered the jitsu bento (fish butteryaki and mixed tempura ) was very delicious and in big portion. we really enjoy the dishes here.

we booked in advance to come here, (thankfully as it was super packed). it's not surprising this place is so popular considering the food is cheap and reallygoodquality.

we ordered the sashimi bento, spicy chicken jitsu plate, 2x chicken teriyaki bento and 1 karage chicken bento

the meals were served with miso which was very nice and this was served very quickly after ordering. the actual mains took a little while longer - but it was super busy on a friday night so we weren't fussed. all the meals were super good! love bentos as you can try a variety of different things. my friends spicy chicken platter wasn't very spicy so she wasn't the biggest fan. the only downside is they didn't give us kamemeshi rice rather than plain (you get the choice) with the bentos and there wasn't an explanation to why that was. but that wasn't too big of a deal anyway

i love love their chicken katsu curry! taste very similar to the japanese curry i had in japan, and their portions aregoodtoo! have some reallygoodsushi too.

courteous staff and a bustly atmosphere in the evening...if yiu want quiet, tgen this is not tour spot but if you want a 'bon vivant' type environment with decent food andgoodservice..then this is your place...good range of food...but do not expect a 4 star food quality....it is what it is...just freshgoodday to day food...overallgoodexperience.

if you're looking for value for your hard earned money - this is the place.

great honestgoodjapanese food,goodselection and drinks. it's great how they offer japanese beer, it compliments the meal well. the pricing is fantastic.
i recommend a scoop of green tea ice cream to finish the meal off - tasty and cheap.

my experience with service is that they are usually slow coming to your table to take orders. i've had to go up to the counter myself most of the time. but again, i'm not too worried. but once your order has been taken, food arrives quickly and the staff are polite.

for great tasting food and value - i'm not expecting super decor. it's comfortable. sometimes a little unclean... but hey, i come here for a casual outing, nothing more. i've gone to many overpriced japanese restaurants that may be nicer in decor, but they don't come close to the price and quality of food.

i always walk away satisfied.

came here for dinner on a thursday. great to have byo option.goodlocation and friendly staff. food was pretty good, the deep fried tofu was yummy. not a bad option for cheap japanese in dunners, though is more japanese fusion.

consistentlygoodevery time means i am never let down with the high level of customer service and great tasting food. the bentos are amazing and the chicken katsu curry is to die for.

we had not been to the jitsu for about a year and we remembered it being enjoyable. so we went last week and ordered take away.....we were quite disappointed.

we had two entree and 3 mains. the tataki salad entree we ordered was by far, the worst tataki we ever had. the beef was cooked all the way through and was very dry and seemed to have been boiled.

for the mains we had a pork bento and two donburi. the mains were very average but filling. also the sashimi in the bento wasn't very fresh.

as for service, we couldn't really say as we had takeaway, but the service from the cashier could be better.

overall, although it wasgoodvalue for money, i was quite disappointed with the quality of the dishes, (especially the overcooked tataki ) and it didn't taste very authentic.

prettygoodfood, service should be better but we usually get takeaway now. the reason we keep going back is consistency, i've been to many dunedin restaurants, none have been consistent like jitsu. never had a bad meal here (1 or 2 were average) and tried many different things.

my absolute favourite japanese restaurant. fantastic menu, lots of choice, great prices (my wellington friends couldn't believe whatgoodvalue their meal was!) and friendly staff. sometimes they struggle when they are busy, but we forgive.

excellent food - bento boxes aregoodsize, tasty and come with a nice combination of different foods - raw fish is excellent - very close to authentic japanese - we live in dunedin and go there very regularly.
