oh so close to getting 5 stars.

thefoodwas delicious, fast and the bento box meal was very plentiful. i had the gyoza entree but the bento is very filling by itself.

the service was friendly and efficient but once i was served my meal that was it, they never came back to check on anything. the next time i talked to a staff member was as i was paying on the way out.

note zomato is not widely used in dunedin with most places having more recent reviews on google.

absolutely loved thefoodand the people were so considerate and suggested vegetarian options as we were a big vegetarian group. the service was awesome and we all really enjoyed the food! possibly the best japanese vegetarianfoodi’ve ever eaten! highly recommend

not the freshest ingredients but goodfoodfor cheap, quick friendly service and large menu. used to eat spicy chicken katsu on rice weekly!

goodfood, good staff and good service,sashimi and sushi very fresh , 3 of us ordered the jitsu bento (fish butteryaki and mixed tempura ) was very delicious and in big portion. we really enjoy the dishes here.

we booked in advance to come here, (thankfully as it was super packed). it's not surprising this place is so popular considering thefoodis cheap and really good quality.

we ordered the sashimi bento, spicy chicken jitsu plate, 2x chicken teriyaki bento and 1 karage chicken bento

the meals were served with miso which was very nice and this was served very quickly after ordering. the actual mains took a little while longer - but it was super busy on a friday night so we weren't fussed. all the meals were super good! love bentos as you can try a variety of different things. my friends spicy chicken platter wasn't very spicy so she wasn't the biggest fan. the only downside is they didn't give us kamemeshi rice rather than plain (you get the choice) with the bentos and there wasn't an explanation to why that was. but that wasn't too big of a deal anyway

greatfoodand service :) i went here with my friend on may 2017. we ordered vegetarian sushi ( 7 large pieces for around $7 so i'm really pleased), steam vegetarian dumplings ( probably around $6 for 8 small pieces) , and 2 bento boxes ( around $12 each) the dumplings are okay and i like the bento boxes :) really delicious and filling. we pay totally $37 for 2 and feel really pleased and full.

courteous staff and a bustly atmosphere in the evening...if yiu want quiet, tgen this is not tour spot but if you want a 'bon vivant' type environment with decentfoodand good service..then this is your place...good range of food...but do not expect a 4 starfoodquality....it is what it is...just fresh good day to day food...overall good experience.

i went there with my housemate on wednesday. there were 1 waitress and 1 waiter worked on the evening shift. the restaurant was not that busy but the service was so slow. we were waiting for almost 10 minutes just to get the menu. we had to wait for another 10 minutes to get to order. we were not impressed. however, the waiter was apologized for the slow service so we felt a bit better. plus thefoodcame out faster than we expected and they taste fine but they were not authentic though.

one thing about this place- thefoodis really reasonably priced for the amount that you get! it's not gourmet dining but it's some decent japanese food!

we ordered a large variety off the menu with the intention to share. the miso they have is a favourite of mine. the takoyaki was really nice, no complaints. grilled salmon don needed some more sauce, and the vegetable kebab was very undercooked- the onion was practically raw. the spicy katsu chicken was yummy- crispy batter and the sauce was flavoursome. really enjoyed the tofu salad- probably one of the favourites, surprisingly! curry was perhaps a bit too sweet and there wasn't a lot of meat in it, mostly potato. the bento box had all the different elements and was very enjoyable.

good for a casual dinner, but don't expect much in the way of service. our table was on a slight angle and one half was a bit wobbly! it was a nice meal but not going back in a rush.

if you're looking for value for your hard earned money - this is the place.

great honest good japanese food, good selection and drinks. it's great how they offer japanese beer, it compliments the meal well. the pricing is fantastic.
i recommend a scoop of green tea ice cream to finish the meal off - tasty and cheap.

my experience with service is that they are usually slow coming to your table to take orders. i've had to go up to the counter myself most of the time. but again, i'm not too worried. but once your order has been taken,foodarrives quickly and the staff are polite.

for great tastingfoodand value - i'm not expecting super decor. it's comfortable. sometimes a little unclean... but hey, i come here for a casual outing, nothing more. i've gone to many overpriced japanese restaurants that may be nicer in decor, but they don't come close to the price and quality of food.

i always walk away satisfied.

we eat here commonly and have found it to be fantastic when they're sorted. we did eat there one evening and they were out of 3 staple menu items: tofu, edamame, and sake. otherwise, thefoodis always delicious and the staff are always great!

came here for dinner on a thursday. great to have byo option. good location and friendly staff.foodwas pretty good, the deep fried tofu was yummy. not a bad option for cheap japanese in dunners, though is more japanese fusion.

a great place for a night out and byo! the place has a nice atmosphere, convenient location, friendly staff, they're simply fantastic. not to mention the wide selection of sushi is fantastic, and they do the bento right! (finally!) even with takeaway, they use the proper bento box like in japan!

sure, thefoodisn't as accurately cooked and a little too westernised, but there are so many things that the other places like jizo can't offer and i can simply live with that. but please, for the love of god, stop putting tomato sauce on karaage! that's just wrong.

if i had to nitpick on one thing, the menu doesn't have a wide range of dishes compare to the other places.
