take the magic carpet ride. what was very appealing abou the greengoddessis that not only did it have a fancy grilled cheese sandwich for $4 - 5 on beer bread, the dishes were varied from common, inexpensive, good food, to unique, international, one of a kind dishes. we were fortunate enough to have chef chris debarr wait on our table. he was an expert in wine pairings, describing the history behind certain dishes, and just had a great attitude. lots of drinks to choose from, the dishes change out seasonally.

best. meal. ever!. ate their with my fiancee (a vegetarian) on a recent trip to nola. chris explained all of the dishes with such enthusiasm and excitement. our many course meal was a delightful, whimsical, yummy trip. this was easily the best meal i have had in a long time and a fantastic overall dining experience. i have eaten at many similar (inventive) restaurants all over the nation, but none of them have blown me away the way greengoddessdid.

greengoddessis a small french quarter restaurant with a great array of vegetarian and vegan fare paired with exciting cocktails. what it lacks in size it more than makes up for with gigantic flavors that come from the fresh ingredients. calling green go

could have liked it.... i purchased a restaurant.com gift certificate to the greengoddessand tried to use it but they don't accept them, so that money went down the drain... they had a sign that said they didn't accept them but if they were smarter they would take it off restaurant.com's website. the food on the menu looked crazy different and i wish i could have tried some of it. it looked good! most of the seating was outside and it was crazy hot that day so after not accepting the gc we decided to check some other places out that had some ac

the greengoddess- is a restaurant in the french quarter which has outdoor seating arrangement. it is in the small lane in exchange pi tucked away in row houses which resembles a french colony

been here for a weekend lunch. had to wait at least 15 minutes to get a table. what interested us to try this place is for the vegetarian options it offered because my friend whom i was with is a vegetarian

we were pleasantly surprised to see this dish in the menu - rolled uttapam and jumped on to order it. it's a crepe rolled with tomatoes, onions, pepper etc with vegetarian gravy and tamrind chutney. it tasted find however a confusing dish - lack of clarity what they wanted to offer

the other dish we ordered was a burrata roll. its a sandwich with cheese and salad. not a bad dish, would i order again probably not

the service was laid back and slow. it is over pricey for what they offer

we enjoyed our lunch at cafe carmo so much that we decided to try another new orleans eatery with vegetarian options. read my review of our tofu, meat, and seafood dishes at greengoddessafter the jump. lemongrass tofu breadless po boy with a side of creole kalethis was the vegan dish for me. i loved this. the tofu has a lot of flavor, and it is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. the creole kale is also nicely-seasoned without being spicy.

the flavors and ingredients from the cornucopia of da bayou tasting menu truly did seem to travel the world, and with each course, it was a chance to see how my palate would be challenged and rewarded. even with their affinity for quotation marks, i wouldn’t hesitate to revisit the menu at the greengoddessespecially with the korean pork belly calling my name.

greengoddessis my favorite restaurant in new orleans, and i recommend it highly to anyone who loves good food and has an open mind. i ask for the open mind because gg is not a traditional restaurant. it doesn’t follow rules or fit in boxes. i can’t tell you what kind of food it serves, other than that it tastes great. the ambience can be described as awesome. helpful, no?

highly overrated. why is this place getting good reviews? i am in no several times a year and enjoy finding new restaurants. i'm vegan and was excited to try greengoddessbecause it had several recommendations from the vege/vegan community. despite the restaurant being busy, my boyfriend and i got a table outside right away. my omnivore boyfriend is always a little reluctant when i take him somewhere that is billed as vegan friendly because he's worried he won't find something he likes; however, he expressed his delight at the menu, pork belly in particular.
our waitress arrived at the table after approx. 6 minutes. she dropped off two waters and announced that she was going to go "visit with" another table and would be back after giving us some more time. she wandered off to refill two other tables' water glasses and bring a third table a round of wine. still we sat not even having given a drink order. after 5 minutes, she returned and asked if we needed more time.
we ordered a covington strawberry (covington's almost perfect answer to the limited abita strawberry ale) and a glass of rose. she returned with his beer in a bottle with no option of glass and my empty wine glass. another minute and she returned with a carafe of rose which she poured from a height that splashed rose on my arms. after pouring the rose, she placed the empty carafe on the table and walked off. maybe it was her first serving job -- an unavoidable but difficult to accept reality in a city renowned for its service and dining experiences -- but the inefficiencies and inattention to detail were astounding.
i'll move on to the food. we ordered the muhammara, a dip of blended red peppers, walnuts, and pomegranate molasses -- as an appetizer. it was completely unremarkable. vegans -- you know those occasions when you don't have the time to devote to preparing something great so you just grab the hummus and a handful of veggies our of your 'fridge to tide yourself over? that's the muhammara, for $11.
we ordered the tumblin' dice cubed watermelon and tuna and savory lentil pancake for dinner. the watermelon was flavorful but seared tuna way overcooked. the portion was what one would expect for tapas style dining but it was $15. the lentil pancake was abhorrent. the only flavor in the dish came from what was supposed to be chutney, though it did not resemble any chutney with which i am familiar. it had a burned licorice flavor that i just couldn't get past. i took two bites before passing it off to my boyfriend who took two bites and threw in the towel.
the check was quick to come, wet. we paid quickly and received our credit slip back, wet. we packed it up and headed down decatur in search of something that more resembled service with a smile and an edible dish.
i can't understand why this place gets as many good reviews as it does. the staff seems on the neurotic side. the price to quantity and quality ratio is off. in a city with such amazing dining available, how is this restaurant still around?

lovely food surrounded by a train wreck. we loved our greengoddesswedge, loved our homage to calvin trillin, loved our island curry shrimp, and truly enjoyed each of our dishes. service went from spot on to missing in action and the menu requires lots of effort all in a really tight space. would go back better prepared.

great experience. my girlfriend and i visited the greengoddessfor an anniversary, and it was a delightful experience. our server knew all of the dishes and made great recommendations. he was very lively and fun. the menu is very creative. i loved their bison and bacon meatloaf and their shrimp wearing a grass skirt. their flavors were bold and interesting. we also enjoyed their cheese plate. my favorite, though, was the bacon sundae. it is pure heaven.
the price for the food was not terribly expensive, but it was not cheap either. their menu was also very wine-packed, and i am not a wine fan.
seating can be tricky here, as it is a tiny restaurant. it is well worth the wait.

best veg food in the south. my fiancee is a vegetarian and we have been to many restaurants in houston and atlanta, and t greengoddessis much better than any of them. excellent service, the restaurant really is the epitome for fine dining. it fills a niche no one else has. highly recommended.

good, but could have been better!. we had been anxiously anticipating a dinner at greengoddessfor some time. the menu, feel, and overall impression we got from the place had built itself up in my head to expect a new favorite. it was good, no doubt, but not as good as i had hoped for. service was excellent, albeit slow. the dishes we tried were solid, but nothing rocked our socks off - save for the bacon ice cream sundae that was in my opinion, one of the best deserts conceivable. the grilled cheese with pear butter was very tasty, too. i'll blame the mediocrity of the rest of our food on how late in the night it was, or at least i hope that's why it was marginally sub par. i'll definitely go back, but i can't say that it will be right away.

greengoddessis an epicurean experience. we've been eating chef chris' food since his days at the delachaise bar and visit the greengoddessevery time we get down to nola. his food is always great and frequently fantastic -- basically a food lover's heaven on earth. i have never eaten at a restaurant where the food is consistently innovative and the chef is so excited about his work. we've eaten some truly beautiful food with him. i remember a savory lamb baklava that was to die...

food servings are tapas-like -- small and intense for the most part -- so don't expect to load up. prices are not low, but for the quality of ingredients and the amount of love and care you get with preparation, they are certainly reasonable. the tasting menu with wine/cocktail pairings is a great deal. you'll leave replete -- and a little buzzed -- having had a true food experience.

the physical accommodations of the restaurant are not ideal. indoors is often uncomfortably smokey and outdoors can be miserably hot (it is new orleans after all). but once you get a drink and a plate down, you won't care so much. it's all about what comes next. last time we were there, our dessert course was dates stuffed with a foie gras mousse. the hubster paired his with this divine port and i paired with a spiced wine. omg!!

personal faves: pretty much anything on the menu. my husband is particularly fond of the grilled cheese. and i always enjoy the vegetable plate. trust chris with wine or cocktail pairings -- he knows his stuff.

we've always had great meals at gg and recommend it to everyone. great restaurant!!

mmmmm biscuits. ah, french quarter dining in my fav city - us city, that is.

love love love the green goddess. unlike jaques-imos and all those other poseur chefs-manque pretending to offer innovative food to unwitting tourists, greengoddessand chef chris are the real deal.

you may not like some of the offerings (praline and bacon ice cream?!) but you can always count on an innovative and daring menu.

most of the ingredients are hyper-local: grown by chef chris and his wife in their yard - and the drinks are as inventive as they come.

so, if you want stupid boring meals (alligator cheesecake? really?) served in the back of a broken down pick up truck, then sure, go to jaques-imos (you know what they say about a fool and his money ...) but if you want true cutting edge cuisine, go to green goddess.

when you go, be sure to take agoddessstatue for the shrine!
