took my sister tolunchto general muir today and they did not disappoint us! shared a ruben and the poutine. i think my sisters eyes rolled back in her head as she put the fork of poutine in her mouth. the ruben from the crunch of the rye bread to the sour and savory combination of the kraut and corn beef was perfectly balanced in taste and presentation. only complaint is that they had no rye bread to sell. just love that bread!

friday august 14 2015 was the first time i have eaten at the
general muir.

i had heard they had some of the best pastrami and corned
beef in atlanta.

a friend recommended we havelunchthere.

as i am a big corned beef and pastrami nut, i agreed and met
him there.

i was excited about the pastrami sandwich and couldn’t
decide between the 7oz with chopped chicken liver and russian dressing but went
with the 14 oz for $18.

for that price i was expecting  the leanest, tastiest pastrami cooked and
handled with care.

unfortunately that was not the case.

i asked for the 14oz and ask to have my bread toasted
lightly.

what came was a greasy, fatty, overcooked pile of what
looked like dark grey meat on an over grilled piece of bread.

i even asked them to check with the chef to make sure it was
the 14 oz as it looked very short to me.

when i opened it to add some mustard, i found 2 of the
slices, to be only slabs of fat and the rest falling apart over cooked meat
with no real flavor profile, just hot mess.

as i was on kind of a job interview with my friend, i did
not want to make a scene at this luncheon.

however, this meal was absolutely the worst i have had, in
this city in a very long time.

and i could not understand the reason for the high price. as
this was very poor quality product, they had produced.

also i stated they forget the pickle with this sandwich to
which i was told it was extra $1.

so a subpar pastrami sandwich for $18 which didn’t even
included the pickle to complete the required flavor profile to accompany, what
should have been a great sandwich.

joey d’s oak room has the finest 7 & 13 oz corned beef
sandwich in the city.

they gently roll 7 & 13 oz of the leanest, most juicy
corned beef into a large meat roll and place it lovingly between great jewish
rye bread and include the whole dill pickle for $17.95 for the 13 oz.

i would run to have that sandwich again and i will.

i would not return for this pastrami ever again.

when i pressed my friend about hislunchhe shurged his
shoulders and it was eahhhhh.

i don’t understand all the good review, as i have no reason
to return to this establishment, ever.the service was attentive.

no promotion for this general

we had heard that the general muir had a very good breakfast. so we went and found the restaurant located in the center of the emory point complex. 3 hours of free parking is provided in the nearby deck.

the restaurant has a sort of new york vibe with lots of little white tiles and windows that look in on the kitchen.

the breakfast menu is focused on a few main, complex dishes. also available are bagels and a cinnamon roll (though not the day we were there).

we had the general muir breakfast which included a couple of eggs (can’t really mess that up) and some very fatty pastrami, a couple of only ok latkes and some sour cream and very runny apple sauce.

the poached eggs on grits with mushrooms was more successful with some delicious marinated mushrooms and good grits.

we also had the french toast. it looked very promising with a nice, crunchy exterior coated in ground nuts. unfortunately, since it was so thickly cut, the interior was a soggy and totally unappetizing mess. we scooped out the interior and ate the exterior which was very good.

prices are commensurate with a higher-end restaurant and pricier than some of the other breakfast places that we enjoy around atlanta. $50 (counting the tip) for breakfast for 3 was a little high, especially when considering the mixed quality of food.

i doubt that i would return to general muir for breakfast. maybelunchor dinner would be more successful.

the general muir double stack is similar to others on our list and no-less special. two thin patties, fried on flat top to crispy, salty perfection. it hits all the right notes and will cure your burger hunger instantly. located north of downtown near emory university and the cdc. get there early forlunchor be prepared to wait.

lunch needs to start at 11:15 in the emory area. love the food however, we work at the emory/cdc area and are at work at 6:30-7am. ourlunchstarts early as we leave for home at 3. we cannot get a decent sandwich here until 11:30 as theirlunchcrew does not even come in until then. they will not even work with you. all the others open at 11. one restaurant has already gone under. lets see how long this one will last.

very disappointed. took almost an hour to get our food and they were not busy. turns out they lost order. as an apology the manager brought us a bag of left over pastries they had becauselunchwas slow. the pastries were stale and we just left them.

not worth the price as the corned need sandwich was small and fatty.

not worth the drive. my wife i looked forward to dining at the general muir, but were greatly disappointed. we had to drive about 40 minutes from our home and it was not worth the drive. it was not a jewish deli, like we were led to believe. the menu is very limited and the matzo soup was expensive and really did not have any kick to it. it cost 40 dollars forlunchas everything is really overpriced. i think even if we lived closer, i would not dine there again.

great pastrami sandwich. there are so many positive and great reviews that i had to make a stop here and see what all the buzz was about. the general muir has a great set up if you’re going solo they have a bar and if you’re out with friends there is plenty of comfortable seating. i was set on getting the pastrami sandwich and it was great. the bread it came on was toasted and the pastrami definitely was the star. great tasting sandwich i would buy again. we got the poutine gravy fries with cheese curds, parsley and we added the chopped pastrami. that was the highlight of the meal. i would go back just for that alone. as thelunchwent on i kept seeing different sandwiches that others were ordering and could easily see that there was a lot to discover about this restaurant. pricing is on the high side for what you’re getting, but i don't mind paying more for great food especially if i'm going to be talking about it...

lunch is lacking. following a fabulous dinner, i decided to try the gm lunch. not thrilled. the reuben contained too much fat and was difficult to eat. i ordered with a side of potato salad that was really, really..bland. while edible thelunchdidn't live up to expectation in comparison to dinner three days earlier. the kitchen must get with the program in getting food out more timely, especially for alunchcrowd. i've been to the gm four time over the past week and find 20 minutes from point of order to receipt for b'fast andlunchunacceptable.

step it up!

fantastic dinner!. while headed to another restaurant at emory pointe, i discovered general muir open for dinner. after being seated i was handed the dinner menu and to be honest was somewhat reluctant to stay given ingredients such as kale, turnips and rutabaga. my dining companion and i split the dinosaur kale salad followed by crispy trout and roasted duck as entrees. i'm the ultimate foodie and let me tell you that every item was perfection to the palate. this was truly one of the top 10 meals i've had in atlanta. our attendant was knowledgeable of the menu and preparation. we chose patricia green pinot noir that paired nicely with both entrees. as a resident of druid hills i plan to make frequent visits to general muir. the overall experience was fantastic and commend staff and management on a job well done.

welcome to the neighborhood!
