if you want an incredible double stack (& other delectable goodies like pastrami, bagel & lox and more) followed by an array of freshly baked desserts, you have to come here! it's no wonder why they're making such big waves in the atlanta scene!

shame on us for not trying general muir sooner! it’s only a short walk away and has been talked about like crazy since it opened recently. it’s an awesome modern homage to the old fashioned jewish delicatessen, and it’s hard to find anything to complain about. we had high expectations knowing that the place is owned by the same couple who runs west egg cafe, and the same chef who created the famous (if you live in atlanta) bocado burger. we were not disappointed!

absolutely fantastic!!. took my family there for dinner for my mom's 87th birthday. it was our first time so we had no idea of what to expect. the hostess was very friendly and helpful since i had to make special arrangements since both of my parents use walkers. they set up a table for us near the door. the waiter was fantastic: friendly, present, but not overbearing. and the food blew us away. i had the trout and it was as good as or better than the best seafood places in town, and their appetizers were delicious. the desserts are out of this world; not too sweet, fresh and really great. all i can say is that for such a young restaurant, they have a wonderful atmosphere, a great customer service approach, and make some of the best food in atlanta. you need to give them a try. (ps: i'm not related, nor had i ever been there before, i just think people who work so hard and are so good at what they do, deserve our business.)

maybe after my next trip to atlanta i can attest to the quality of the general muir’s breakfast, pastrami poutine, or if the burger that chef todd gingsberg popularized at bocado survived the trip. however, based on this first look at the general muir, i’m pretty sure that goldberg’s is no longer my go to deli in atlanta.

i love all the food and the pho in particular. the indochine version of pho has a flavoursome broth that does not come with a weird aftertaste of msg.

highly over rated. ok, yuppie heaven. i've been in ny delis -- in new york! this ain't one of 'em. service was great, place is clean, staff are very nice -- food is ok -- and vastly over-priced. $12 for a reuben -- w/not even a pickle? pickles are $1 extra. totally "a la carte,"don't get a soda unless one can is enough -- i stuck w/iced tea so i could, hopefully, get refills w/o paying another $2.50 -- for a high-ball sized glass.

and the parking deck is definitely a problem. all the tenants at emory point should raise hell about that one.

unique cocktails and great conversation. my wife and i went to the general muir last night with a friend to have some cocktails. the cocktails were unique and delicious. my wife 'challenged' the bartender to make a drink with particular characteristics and she concocted a delicious drink fitting all of the characteristics. we were there a bit past when the dinning room had emptied and the executive chef, todd ginsberg, came out to the bar and started chatting with us as he tried one of the bartenders new experimental cocktails. they make several vodkas and liquors in house. we had a great conversation with the chef and the bartender and the chef even let us try a piece of their amazing cheese cake. i don't like cheese cake and i loved it. if you haven't tried it out, do it asap. you won't regret it.

at long last, the general muir is open. the restaurant, a modern jewish deli, is located in the emory point development near emory university and the cdc and is brought to us by the folks who own the west egg cafe. former bocado chef and friend of mine, todd ginsberg is the restaurant’s executive chef. breakfast menu highlights include open faced bagel sandwiches, latkes, hazelnut crusted french toast and turkey, roast beef, pastrami and reuben sandwiches are featured for lunch. the general muir serves a custom coffee blend made for the restaurant by batdorf & bronson.

had brunch here today. my irish coffee was spot on as was every dish we ordered. the house pickles were great. service was excellent and the place is bright and airy on the inside. looking forward to my next visit here.

pastrami not a winner. some things i love about this place -- eclectic emory ambiance, innovative sandwich menu, availability of mexican coke.

my quandary was between the turkey sandwich (raved about on earlier reviews) or the pastrami sandwich, which i eventually chose. the meat was a bit dry with a not so tasty tourchon style liver paste on top. going with the turkey next time...

lunch is lacking. following a fabulous dinner, i decided to try the gm lunch. not thrilled. the reuben contained too much fat and was difficult to eat. i ordered with a side of potato salad that was really, really..bland. while edible the lunch didn't live up to expectation in comparison to dinner three days earlier. the kitchen must get with the program in getting food out more timely, especially for a lunch crowd. i've been to the gm four time over the past week and find 20 minutes from point of order to receipt for b'fast and lunch unacceptable.

step it up!

fantastic dinner!. while headed to another restaurant at emory pointe, i discovered general muir open for dinner. after being seated i was handed the dinner menu and to be honest was somewhat reluctant to stay given ingredients such as kale, turnips and rutabaga. my dining companion and i split the dinosaur kale salad followed by crispy trout and roasted duck as entrees. i'm the ultimate foodie and let me tell you that every item was perfection to the palate. this was truly one of the top 10 meals i've had in atlanta. our attendant was knowledgeable of the menu and preparation. we chose patricia green pinot noir that paired nicely with both entrees. as a resident of druid hills i plan to make frequent visits to general muir. the overall experience was fantastic and commend staff and management on a job well done.

welcome to the neighborhood!

delectable turkey sandwich. after seeing the high praise from barney, i knew i had to check out the general muir. the place is very nice and is absolutely spotless. the décor is kind of industrial chic and they have very large windows that let in a lot of natural light. the service was exceptional.
i decided on the roasted turkey sandwich which comes with portabella, lemon crème fraiche, arugula, and gruyere on ciabatta. it was a phenomenal sandwich with a ton of different flavors that commingled into something that was a taste-bud satisfying revelation. the lemon crème fraiche is just brilliant; i never would have thought to put something like that on to a sandwich! it added the right amount of zing that really took this thing to the next level. the turkey was perfect and the portabella was nice and meaty. every ingredient was extremely fresh, including the bread. oh, i almost forgot, i also had a side of the pasta salad. though it is atypical of what you expect for pasta salad, it was very nice and refreshing.
overall, the general muir is a real winner based off this sandwich alone. the place is nice and in a great location, and the service is great. i look forward to trying the other menu items, including the pastrami sandwich and their breakfast and dinner options.

schmaltz potatoes – i don’t know what i was expecting, but they were regular breakfast potatoes. not bad per se, but no schmaltz flavor. it’s like when places have ‘duck fat fries’ and there is no duck fat flavor but they cost $3 more.
