not worth the drive. my wife i looked forward to dining at the general muir, but were greatly disappointed. we had to drive about 40 minutes from our home and it was not worth the drive. it was not a jewish deli, like we were led to believe. the menu is very limited and the matzo soup was expensive and really did not have any kick to it. it cost 40 dollars for lunch as everything is really overpriced. i think even if we lived closer, i would not dine there again.

great pastrami sandwich. there are so many positive and great reviews that i had to make a stop here and see what all the buzz was about. the general muir has a great set up if you’re going solo they have a bar and if you’re out with friends there is plenty of comfortable seating. i was set on getting the pastrami sandwich and it was great. the bread it came on was toasted and the pastrami definitely was the star. great tasting sandwich i would buy again. we got the poutine gravy fries with cheese curds, parsley and we added the chopped pastrami. that was the highlight of the meal. i would go back just for that alone. as the lunch went on i kept seeing different sandwiches that others were ordering and could easily see that there was a lot to discover about this restaurant. pricing is on the high side for what you’re getting, but i don't mind paying more for great food especially if i'm going to be talking about it...

i’ve been excited to try the general muir since their opening but unless you live close to the emory area it’s pretty hard to get to; case in point my 30 minute drive in little traffic from vinings. all bitching aside, my group and i were very pleased and it was worth the trip. the lox and smoked salmon plates were the best i have had outside of manhattan and included all the necessary accompaniments – red onion, capers, tomato, egg, etc! the east sider salmon plate the gm has everything a true jewish delicatessen connoisseur could desire, from schmaltz to matza balls to a really tasty reuben that, god forbid, was better than the pastrami on rye… reuben – check out the thick cut corned beef and melty cheese!!! we tried the regular pastrami and the pastrami with liver and the liver was great but a litter overpowering for the pastrami; if you like liver, get it and just scrape a little off to enjoy with any left over crust! above average regular pastrami on rye   pastram with liver…a who

the menu is fitting and varied with most everything being made in house, with wide ranging offerings from the kitchen including noted highlights of deviled eggs, swiss chard fritters, stewed lentils, and for those bocado lovers, ginsberg’s double-stack burger. this is not your typical bagel shop folks and is to be applauded.

i had read that they cured their own corned beef and pastrami and i was looking forward to (hopefully) tasting some of the corn beef when it arrived. luckily, the sandwich was huge – thick slices of corned beef (three deep in the middle of the sandwich) – and jo removed the middle level which, magically, appeared on my plate. this was incredible corned beef – thick-cut, salty and with just enough fat to give it a real flavor. (i actually saved a half a slice to be the “final bite” of my meal, with a piece of the fried egg. i always like to save the best for last.) when everything was said and done and her empty plate was taken to the kitchen, she declared that it was “the best reuben she had ever eaten”.

not the real deal!. this is not a real ny style deli just a southern version of one. pastrami sandwich had large pieces of fat disguised as meat. it is fine that the meat be fatty when cooked as this gives flavor but the meat should be trimmed well before serving it in a sandwich. i don't like biting into fat! my husband ordered a turkey sandwich which was mostly bread along with a thin slice of turkey + paper thin slices of portobello mushrooms, creme fraiche and arugula. now i ask you, what ny deli have you ever seen such a sandwich served at?? disappointed to say the least! the only fhing ny about this place are the high prices- we paid almost $40 incl. tip for 2 sandwiches, cole slaw, potato salad ( had no taste) and one soda. won't be back, sorry!

i’d bypassed the general muir quite a few times, mostly because it looked rather dark from the outside. recently though, the general muir has been getting some really great press as one of the top jewish delis in the country.

bagel bakery with small plates. the bakery offers many bagels, which are not as chewey as in ny, and other pastries. we dined during brunch and enjoyed avenue a and "fish and potatoes". both dishes were good but quite small portions for the price. for the avenue dishes i prefer the equivalents at our neighborhood bagel place. servers were attentive but the kitchen seemed very slow.

the general muir is my new favorite brunch spot. brunch is a very important meal, and when it’s done right it can make your entire weekend feel special.  i’ve now had three excellent brunches over the past few months at the general muir and have officially escalated it to the very top of my brunch go-to list.  here’s a peek inside:   and here’s the q dd on the general muir : the general muir is a tribute to the classic new york jewish deli, returning it to its hand-crafted roots. traditional favorites are honored — pastrami is cured and smoked in house, bagels are kettle boiled and hand rolled — and joined by dishes going beyond tradition, focusing on fresh ingredients and simple preparations. the restaurant is named for the refugee transport ship that brought co-owner jennifer johnson’s mother and grandparents, holocaust survivors, to new york in 1949. the general muir serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, and offers an espresso bar serving locally-roasted batdorf & b

it’s a modern deli with a similar atmosphere to the optimist in the sense that it is very open, clean, and has a nice bar. we skipped over the appetizers this time, but during my last visit we devoured the chopped liver with ease.  on this occasion i opted for the fried chicken because my server used the fear of loss sales tactic saying that

we start off with a bowl of matzo ball soup, which features a huge ball in a not-too-salty chicken broth. you will want to split this dish, and four people could share that matzo ball.

best local deli. having dined at some of the finest deli's in new york, miami, boca, chicago, and toronto, i can honestly say this place is head and shoulders above every other deli in atlanta. once you've dined here you'll never be satisfied by goldberg's again.

the menu is limited, but what they have is well executed.

best way to describe the place: fresh, local, and chef driven meets classic new york style jewish deli.

food - 8/10 - zingerman's and carnegie deli are still better
service - 10/10
ambiance - 10/10 - probably the cleanest deli i've ever been to
