horrendous service....abusive, unprofessional staff,. do not go here unless your idea of fun sunday morning brunch is longwaitfollowed by abusive staff.......read on.

got there sunday morning at 10:15 a.m. for breakfast. told thewaitwas 25 minutes. finally got seating at 11:05 (may be not in their control...read on). placed the order at 11:10 a.m. i had a coffee to start, another member had hot tea. waitress, who supposedly was also a manager # 1, came around again at 11:40 to inquire if i wanted more coffee. i told her that i will justwaiton the food and inquired how long will it take. soon, she said. she did not even ask if the other members wanted anything. another 15 minutes passed no food. so i went up to the cashier's desk and asked to speak to a manager. a lady seating at the counter said that she is the manager (manager # 2). explaining the situation to her, about thewaitbefore and after seating. she mentioned that sunday morningwaitbefore seating can be unpredictable and i can understand that. however she also thought that thewaitafter the order was too long and went in to check in the kitchen. walked right out with two orders in her hand followed by two orders in manager # 1's hand. manager # 2 said that she apologizes for thewaitand will take care of the bill. i indicated that it was not necessary. as we started to eat, the original waitress (manager # 1) returns with maple syrup and says that she has been very nice to us(not asking the rest of the group if they wanted anything, not apolozising for the delay in the order, not even showing any concern or respect for customer's time even after the inquiry on the status of food when obviously it was ready to be served in the kitchen based on quick turnaround after speaking with manager # 2) and started to verbally abuse me. i asked her to leave the table, she would not. i got tired of her audacity and threatening look and went up to manager # 2 (while she was watching all these drama). she mentioned that this is manger #1's last day and she will not return to work next day. i had no desire to get into their history so i requested if we can have someone take care of our table and she said she would. by this time, members of the group were so disgusted with the whole experience and wanted to leave. she returned two minutes later and said that she is getting a different story from the original waitress. at this point, we were disgusted with their internal tensions and sniping staff and were ready to leave and her and decided to leave anyway.

members of group included very level headed college students attending prestigious universities as well as a successful engineer. this is the first experience of this kind in over twenty five years i have been living in usa (and we have travelled all over usa and world) and it stands out as the rest of the experience in cambridge area was nothing but pure joy. this experience, however needed to be shared with the hope that it will help people as well as the staff at the restaurant realize the error of their ways.

absolutely terrible. i happened to visit the friendly toast while visiting portsmouth and will never ever go back to that establishment as long as it is open. the service is absolutely terrible, our server visited our table once to get our orders, then promptly forgot about the table for 45 minutes before i had to flag them down and ask where the meal was. upon asking why other tables that sat down after us had their meals and our table did not, i was promptly called several vulgar names and told towaita bit more by our server.

the only reason you should go to this establishment is to pee on it. even then the employers and employees might enjoy that as they seem quite content to be disgustingly dirty and hungover. while i can appreciate a nostalgic feel and actually did enjoy the eclectic day cor of the inside - the service and lack of any management whatsoever to control the horrific service staff makes this breakfast place an absolute zero.

do yourself and favor and go some where else - do not visit this place.

in a ny minute. well, i got your attention!! i used the urban spoon app while on a weekend getaway in btown, and i was pleased. thewaitfor a table for 2 was 30 to 45mins, however i read the reviews and was prepared. while we waited we studied the menu and people watched. i ordered the "ole miss" and a slice of french toast (anadama slice). i must admit, the french toast was divine-homemade bread with corn and molasses. not soo much with the ole miss, because i'm not into. my food being stacked ontop of each other, the spicy/sweet taste(chipotle sweet mashed potatoes) nor mango sour cream sprinkled on my eggs. however the zesty red potato home fries were spot on!! overall, i enjoyed my brunch-when you're on a mini vaca you can wait; but if i were home, i would have left.

i've never loved sundays as much as i do this year. now that i am not working 6 or 12 hour shifts, i have so much time to explore my neighborhood, see a movie, spend time with family, and, of course, eat and drink. a recent sunday started with breakfast at the friendly toast . of course i started with a bloody mary. and took in the sights at this quirky restaurant. thewaitwas ~35 minutes but we got seats at the bar instead, and were able to order right away! the cayenne cheddar bread is out of this world! the rest of my breakfast was great, too, but this bread alone is worth the trip. after breakfast we walked around cambridge a bit, the headed over to fenway. it was hot - around 90*- and being without a/c at home, we decided to spend the afternoon at the movies. most of the time i am not an a/c fan, but this day was just too hot to be outside. we stopped at a few stores - one of them being rei where i looked at a new water belt for running. too bad it was $50!!! at the movies we end

prettyy good. fun, kitschy decor helps keep you visually stimulated while youwaitfor a table and/or the food. service isn't bad if you don't mind the hipster vibe that can at times seem a bit (perhaps unintentionally) pretentious. the food is prettyyy good. i guess i'd describe it as chunky or clumsy. the portions are a little too big and bulky, the homemade bread is good but the slices are intrusively thick, the eggs and sauces are all just sort of plopped on top of eachother. it's very.. heavy handed. i guess that's just their style, it's just a little too heavy. i mean it does satisfy a general craving for salty, fatty breakfast foods, but... y'know when you're hung over and you're hungry but the thought of too much food just makes you feel kind of sick? that's sort of how i felt lol. fun place though and brunch is hard to find so i'd go again if i were in the area. just be prepared towaitfor a table on the weekends.

yummy & fun. my husband and i visited boston last week and the friendly toast was our last stop before the airport. we got there around 9:15am and had towaitonly about 5-10 minutes. there were tables available for large parties, but not us two.

the decor is funny and the staff was generally pleasant (if not the quickest in the world). the menu is very large, but we chose a special for the day, the tijuana benedict. it was really very good with jalapeño toast, two poached eggs, chorizo sausage, and onions/peppers. it was topped generously with hollandaise sauce, which i didn't really care for. the home fries (side) were out of this world! i would definitely order it again, sans hollandaise. the sauce was too much, but the rest was spot on!

when we were leaving (about 10:30am) the line was out the door and thewaitwas 30+ minutes.

get there early!!!

great for a huge brunch. the platters are big, and you'll end up polishing off all of it and feeling pretty full because all the food is so delicious and homestyle. (if you see a description like "some --- served over one piece of toast," know that their 'toast' is actually a really thick slab of loaf roughly 8 inches square.) friendly toast has a lot of classic waffle/french toast/sandwich type items, interesting quesadillas/rice dishes/omelettes, and some really strange sounding combinations. like 'kitchen sink quesadilla': sweet potatoes, pecans, cheese, spinach, balsamic glaze, with coconut shrimp on the side??? (it was so good)

if it's not that busy, the service is excellent, but during rush hour once it took over an hour for our food to come out and then we got some undercooked chicken. the decor is incredibly kitschy and you can spend a while making fun of pieces on the wall while youwaitfor food, although the overall atmosphere works with their diner theme.
