have eaten here thrice, mainly because my daughter loves their ube waffles with fried chicken. seems everyone does, it's probably the most popular item on their menu. and for good reason: the waffles are always perfectly cooked, though i can't really detect the ube flavor in them. the accompanying dressings are interesting, especially the pickled onions that co surprisingly well with the dish. the chicken is tender and flavorful and the breading is delightfully crisp. and the serving is pretty big, two people of moderate appetites could share one.
can't rave about their wagyu pares, though. presentation was interesting, as it comes in a three-piece old-school metal lunch pail. but the meal itself, welll, let's say i prefer the pares in some hole-in-the-wall turo-turos. then again, i've never been a fan of wagyu cubes, the texture reminds me too much of spam. the accompanying broth was oily and the star anise flavor was too overwhleming. won't be ordering this again.
my mom tried the avocado toast which looked promising in the menu description but in the end, disappointed us. we could detect barely any flavor, and the poached eggs were cold. the hummus, feta, and avocado all tasted alike and had a similar mouth-feel.
during my last visit, i ordered the hotate soy cream pasta out of curiosity. pretty good dish. i could taste the individual seafood ingredients and all these were complemented by the light creamy dressing. but it was not worth the price, imo. in fact, i would have to say that most of the food in this resto are overpriced. it's not a bad place: ambience is relaxing, service is efficient, decor is tasteful and the food seems pretty decent in spite of the misses. but as a whole, i don't think i'm getting much value-for-money with the quality of the dishes. you should probably try the place out once or twice, but i feel there are restaurants in up town center that offer much better value. will still patronize this place on occasion if only to satisfy my daughter's chicken and waffle cravings.
oh, yeah, careful with their espresso! it's the strongest i've ever tasted! stronger even than what i drank in italy. i actually liked it, but an hour after i started feeling the negative effects of the acidity in my stomach, if you know what i mean. happened twice, so i think i'll be sticking to their regular coffee from now on.
