i would love to give this place 5 stars, but one thing bothered me... i ordered the tartufo pasta. taste 5/5. the truffle wasn't overwhelming and it was delicious. my only issue was that the pasta only had one small slice of prosciutto, but the picture on the menu definitely had more than that. on the other hand, my partner ordered the buttermilk chicken with ube waffles and salted egg sauce (a literal mouthful). it tastes better than i expected. the salted egg sauce doesn't taste like salted eggs, and surprisingly went well with the ube waffles. definitely worth ordering again.
for dessert, i had coffee cubes. the coffee was a bit strong for me, but it tasted great with warm milk. the sugar syrup was strange, though.

this cafe quickly became one of my favorites when i'm in qc. i've tried their wagyu pares, kelp pesto and my go-tos, the two bennys, and i love them all. so today i was feeling the bennys again and so i opted for the smoked salmon egg benny. but i'm not sure what it is today, but for some reason their smoked salmon egg bennys tasted different than the last time i had it--tasted less smokey to my liking. so i dunno if they adjusted their recipe or something was off today with their cook. but nonetheless, since all my past experiences were all wonderful and the benny earlier still tasted decent, i'm gonna give them a 5 star. however, i hope the next time i dine in they bring back that level of smokiness in the salmon that i've come to love and enjoy.

ps:
lgbt is a must, btw! and all their milkshakes! :)

food and interiors are very instagramable.

the food was tasty and filling. i recommend the wagyu pares. the soup that comes with it was the star of the meal. good job to the staff also for being welcoming and attentive!

it was father's day so we went out and celebrated with my family. luckily my older sister was in the philippines for vacation at that time. so it was heartwarming to have the whole family complete on that special day. (everyday is father's or mother's day for me). what you need to look for. we were looking for a place to eat at up town center and then i remembered that a good friend of mine was raving about this restaurant. it is pretty new so we had to look for it. it is found in the new wing beside friday's which is the same floor of cbtl. the fat seed looked reminiscent of a cafe i visited in cebu named birdseed in axis entertainment avenue. it also had this industrial interior with artsy designs like their mural.

chili garlic bacon pasta. al dente spaghetti noodles tossed in olive oil, garlic, and chili with cured bacon pieces and a perfectly poached egg. this dish was so good in its simple but complex flavors and also very worth its price, which isn’t that hefty considering the serving size (can be shared by two people but believe me you wouldn’t want to share this) and obviously high quality ingredients. be sure to eat this while its still hot, though.

we also ordered their sumatra mandheling blend via v60. it was heavily bodied but smooth and not acidic at all.

the ambiance was lovely and the servers were very warm and attentive. there is wifi available and several tables with power outlets, making the place a nice and cozy workspace. can’t wait to go back here again and try their other offerings. chicken and waffles, i’m coming for you next.

had my birthday dinner at this restaurant, and i must say that the experience had been more than satisfactory, especially since i came with quite high expectations given all the good reviews i'd read before.

the food was, for simplicity's sake, good. i recall enjoying their spinach and mushroom in cream (tasty; spinach were neither limp nor overcooked), their grilled chicken (not dry; distinct smoky flavor), and their louisiana hot wings (not too sweet, which i prefer). the helpings for most dishes were also generous (surprised by the size of the meatballs in my pasta), as we were able to share among ourselves, except for the wagyu pares, which was just enough for exactly one person.

price may be on the steeper side for most, though easily compensated for by the quality and serving sizes.

staff was also friendly and attentive, listening to our requests and asking if we needed anything else.

overall, it was refreshing to dine at a restaurant that actually lives up to the reputation it has garnered on the internet. i hope that the fat seed cafe + roastery remains this way and even improve over time.

dated my very talented sister to celebrate her success on “sid & aya: not a love story”. (shameless plug, my sister len c is the musical director of this new anne curtis x ding dong dantes x direk irene villamor film! i’m so proud of her work! please watch it in cinemas today!) 😻❤️

we browsed where to eat in uptc and this came up. i was convinced to try and my sister excitedly agreed. i absolutely loved it in this place! 😸

the place was super pretty and the staff were very accommodating. we were introduced to their bestsellers and we went for two of their top recommendations. it took us a while to choose because everything looks and sounds amazing and worth a try. their all day breakfast food looks fantastic and super appetizing while some of their mains are served in super quirky and ig worthy ways. i practically couldn’t pick! wah! 😹

finally my sister went for the fat seed burger (php 395) which was super delicious! the patty was thick and juicy and seasoned perfectly. the black brioche bun gave it some flair and it was nicely toasted but still soft and chewy. this burger was something else! 😻

i went with their hotate soy cream pasta (php 385) and i absolutely loved it! i couldn’t really describe it, just that it was so gooood! it was creamy and savory and the pasta was perfectly al dente. the scallops gave it texture and a nice fish taste. the fish roe was truly the cherry on top. the serving size was quite big but i nearly licked my plate clean. it was that tasty! 😻

price-wise, everything really felt great value for money. i can’t complain because the food quality and their service is definitely at par with their tab. i really loved it here! ❤️

i’ll come back for their breakfast food, and that wagyu pares is definitely next on my list! i can’t wait to be back! 😸

your new favorite cafe!

product: we were very excited to try the fat seed cafe especially after seeing that they also offer chicken and ube waffles. plus, who isn't up for breakfast food? as ron swanson said, "why does anyone in the world eat anything but breakfast food?" and i seriously want that to be my mantra in life. this is probably why breakfast and brunch cafes are such a hit. and when the food is this good, you'd find yourself some regular customers for sure.

first up, buttermilk fried chicken with ube waffle in salted egg sauce (php 325.00): the chicken was very big. they used red meat so with that serving size, it has almost the same portion size as a 2-piece chicken meal. it's perfectly seasoned and it's also cooked properly making it crunchy and juicy. the ube waffle definitely tasted like ube. it wasn't as sweet as i expected but the fact that the ube taste was there, it already passed my expectations. it was also very fluffy and easy to slice. my only suggestions is that they should add more syrup because something that fluffy requires a lot of sweetness on it.

mushroom fritters (php 175.00): were basically deep fried mushroom bits. it was a perfect alternative to fries. if you're looking for something new to try but you're craving for those fried potatoes, try this tastier substitute. you won't be disappointed.

hotate soy cream pasta (php 385.00): is the must order for those who craves for pasta. if you love japanese food and japanese mayo, you will absolutely love this one. i don't think i've ever had a dish where the sauce of the pasta is actually japanese mayo, and you all know how good their mayo is. along with the nori, bonito flakes, and other ingredients.. this will surely capture the love of your taste buds.

the fat seed benedict with homemade maple bacon slab (php 295.00): is a very satisfying meal for breakfast and brunch lovers. if your go-to order is something with eggs benedict, you're sure to love this one. there is a thick slice of bacon in the middle which stays true to its long title.

their milkshakes are very thick too. i think they use the "thick" version of a well-known ice cream brand in the ph.

venue: the fat seed cafe + roastery is on the ground floor located beside healthy options. if you know uptc well, this will be easy to find but if not, just ask around you'll find it eventually. the place isn't that big but it looks very cozy. there's a coffee bar for people who are eating alone or prefer high chairs. there are also outlets near every table so if you want to study or work, this is a perfect place for you to dine in at.

it’s so fortunate how students from ateneo and up nowadays can enjoy the fully operated shops and restaurants at up town center, a recently built mall right smack in the middle of these two prestigious universities. because of the many unique food establishments, choosing the right place for lunch or dinner is very tricky (trust me, i know!). however, i recently got invited to try out the fat seed cafe + roastery and it turned out to be the perfect mix of casual dining and cafe fit for studying or working. plus, judging by the food we ate, it’s surely on its way to climbing up many of manila’s top restaurants list in quezon city. scroll down below to see what we mean!

this is the newest cafe bar hangout for hipster northerners strolling inside uptc. upon entering, the fancy artsy interiors are going to tingle your visual senses: the painted brick wall & and the brightly lit counter are attention-grabbers. it took me a good 5 minutes or so before i realized i had to check the menu. their food & drinks are quite pricey so i'd probably won't frequent this place a lot but it's a nice place to check out for coffee, unique fusion drinks and modern dishes to pique your curiosity. wifi here is also quite decent so the place is also a good choice to get work done, if that is what you are after.

unique cafe concept with interesting food choices. everything in here looked so pretty- from the interiors, menu, and plating.

for starters, we ordered the mushroom soup & clam chowder. the mushroom soup is very flavorful and you can really feel the mushroom bits. clam chowder has the real seafood-y taste.

garlic chili with bacon and egg pasta
- it’s very simple like an aglio olio, but it is more flavorful because of the abundant bacon bits

kimchi rice with maple bacon
- the rice kind of lacked the kimchi punch, but i’m okay with it because it’s not that spicy! very subtle lang yung flavor, which is good cause you can appreciate the flavor of the meat!! it reminded me of the meat you get with ramen, but a much thicker cut. this is really good!

overall, dining experience was pleasant and the food wasn’t overwhelming or too salty. it was all just right.

friendly and speedy service. (just a little confusing your first time here if you can sit yourself or ask to be seated.) comfortable vibe (although a little too noisy when it's full). food is glorious. i'll definitely come back to try more.
(btw, they accept card last time i was here, so it's no longer cash-only.)

flat white: my 2nd favorite flat white that i've tried. the coffee aroma is a++. nice balance of milk to coffee.

bruschetta: all so delicious. the crispyness of the bread was just right. easy to swallow. loved the mushroom and spinach most of the four.

buttermilk + ube waffles: the waffles were so good, and super taste like ube, compliments well with the salted egg sauce. the texture was light and fluffy. buttermilk chicken is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. this quickly replaced my long-time (5++ years) favorite buttermilk chicken.

mango after dark: gloriously fruity. mango purees tend to taste like medicine, but this one's superb. ordered it for takeout.

ate here with my girlfriend. we ordered these, the mushroom soup literally has blended bits of mushroom and not the cheap kind. nice ambiance but a little small to move around if people start coming around

my favorite restaurant in uptc! the food is some of the best i’ve had in manila, price is very affordable for the quality of food given, the place is cozy and unique. everything in this restaurant is perfect. the must tries are the porkchop and tfs burger. if you’re just curious and wanna check he ambiance, just grab a rootbeer express or lgbt. one sip, and you’ll understand why the place is amazing.

this is my first time to try this restaurant. i like the design of the place...very cozy. the staff were very attentive and courteous. we had the garlic and bacon pasta, sliders and wagyu pares. the pasta was good and flavorful. the wagyu pares was tender and the the broth was appetizing the sliders were juicy and tasty. but i find it smaller the the ones i had at todd english. overall dining experience was pleasant. i would really go back and try their other menu.
