the atmosphere is great, but unfortunately the burger was not up to scratch at all. the toppings are interesting, but the size of the burger makes it almost impossible to eat.

the size might be forgiven if the meat was good, but sadly the quality of the patty made it totally inedible.

the breakfast is much better than the burger.
a very cool novelty experience, hopefully thefoodwill improve.

the cavalier attitude of the place seems cool. but thefoodis so bad. cold patty and soggy bun. lettuce was old. bland mexican chilli sauce.

i've been dying to come to eat at the dog's bollocks. i'm based in jo'burg and consider myself a bit of burger connoisseur. friends and family who live in cape town swear by this rough and tumble establishment that packs as much charm as it does quality. some say that they provide the best burger experience in the country and i have to agree.

the dog's bollocks is bursting with personality. if the name doesn't tell you that you're in for something special, you'll know the moment you walk in. you get the feeling that this is the kind of place that will serve you a burger you'll never forget. from the special ordering procedure to being greeted personally by the chefs on duty to biting into a massive burger unlike any other, it is indeed a remarkable experience.

a hamburger is a very versatile meal that can be served as both fastfoodand fine dining. the dog's bollocks has their own interpretation that is large and impossible to eat without making a mess. the burger brings pulls you into the idea of the restaurant. eating a burger here is more than a meal it is an experience.

go to the dog's bollocks, prepare for something different, and leave overwhelming satisfied.

yesterday a friend and i got to do lunch in a unique little eatery in gardens, cape town. the name of the eatery is the yard but was at one point called "the dogs bollocks" somewhat crass, but very reminiscent of its british roots.

the eatery is tucked away down a little one-way side street, but don't be fooled it is well known, and i was blown away by the number of overseas visitors who ubered in while we were at the restaurant. the yard itself is basic, rustic and with a vintage twist. from the bathtubs filled with plants to the "olde" style lampshades strung up everywhere it really is a relaxed environment.

this restaurant is renown for it's very large and delicious hamburgers ( the lighter version, "the puppy's nuts", but they also offer great chicken wings (such as "smack my as & call me sally), tacos and a huge selection of cocktails. so be warned it is best to come hungry because a large appetite is a prerequisite.

the kitchen is open concept kitchen and on arrival, you write your name on the chalkboard wall. when yourfoodis ready your name will be shouted and you can collect it from the kitchen counter, where you can see your edible work of art being assembled.

now if you aren't already tickled pink (or horrified and prudish), there are a few other indelicate but rather quaint touches. need the bathroom ... erhm you might need to keep an eye out for the "brick shithouse". and if you are looking for a mirror, expect to find a little motivation instead ...

back to the food. as many of you know i now follow a keto lifestyle and have managed to put my fibromyalgia in remission (for lack of a better word). so when eating out the first thing i do is look for keto/lchf options or ways that i can adapt standardfooditems to suit my lifestyle. because let's face it, not everyone caters to us "special" people. hopefully, that will change with autoimmune disease on the rise.

my friend chose to create his own burger with a grilled chicken patty (you can also choose from beef, or crumbed chicken patty) and nacho cheese sauce.

while i adapted my choice to a lettuce cup instead of a bun. my burger choice was the creamy blue pepper (a light and creamy blue cheese and peppadew sauce) burger with a beef patty and bacon as an "extra". i opted for a salad as a side instead of fries.

the venue truly is lovely and thefoodis delicious, our bill came to approx r400 for the two of us, making it affordable and good value for money. i will definitely be going back!

i heard of this not-so conventional eatery around 5 years ago. and finally, finally, i can tick the dog’s bollocks off my list. and my, what an experience it was!

our first interaction was with our waitress, an over-the-top, larger than life woman who greeted us with ‘whazzup motherfuckers!’ to say it was original would be an understatement. from that first moment i realised this place is different to any other burger bar i’ve been to before.

the dining experience is very laid-back, super informal, loud and awesome. we had a few beers while we waited for our burgers. now, i can’t stress this enough, go hungry, famished, ravenous, all together. their burgers are huge. no really, huge. i ate half of my burger and chips and it still looked bigger than what you would normally get served in a restaurant.

i had the beef burger with caramelised onions and a tasty basting sauce and cheese. the onions were divine, the patty tasty and the burger bun was yummy (i don’t know what they do to it, but it was the bomb diggity). all in all, it was a delicious meal and a really fun, unexpected evening.
(the pizzas are apparently also good.)

next time, however, i’ll opt to share a burger with someone. it was far too muchfoodand the takeaway doesn’t taste as great the next day (which is totally normal. it’s a burger; it’s not meant to be eaten in two sittings).

the dog’s bollocks is all about not keeping up with the status-quo, insanely big burgers, and of course, not giving a f*ck. a must-visit for all burger-lovers.

kitchen staff don't wear gloves , work withfoodwith their dirty hands . when we mentioned this we were not even acknowledged by the manager . poor customer service and a serious health hazard.

great experience! i'd heard good things about this spot but wasn't quite sure what to expect or whether or not i'd enjoy it...

little did i know!

we got the friendly-rude waitress (winning in my opinion?) and thefoodwas great!
even though we arrived quite late, there was room for us to sit without it being too empty (the vibe was still going strong & it had a warm feel)

if i had to be really picky and critique one part of my experience the fries didn't quite make it to the standard of the rest of the experience.

overall i thoroughly enjoyed my meal & the service was excellent 🌼👌🏼

would recommend to mates 10/10

thanks to dogs bollocks for completely ruining a good night with the most pathetic service i’ve received in a very long time.

we went to dogs bollocks after hearing how great their burgers are. we had very high hopes of having a great evening out at a cool restaurant.

we arrived just after 730pm and ordered not long after that. by 845pm nofoodhad arrived with no communication from any staff. a little later our waitress came past and asked if we’d received ourfoodyet. we said no and she disappeared again with no explanation. finally at 915pm we went and asked what was going on and we were told ourfoodwould be another 10 minutes. that would make it nearly 2 hours since we ordered. we decided to leave because by now both of us were absolutely starving and sick of their excuses.

now i understand a long wait at a popular restaurant during busy hours, however, we sat and waited while all the tables around us were served and turned around. there was no communication, no explanation and no apologies. our wait wasn’t due to a busy kitchen - our wait was because they forgot our order.

they have a bad attitude. i will never go back there, which is a pity because i hear their burgers are great.

i was invited here for a friends birthday. it’s got a whole-in-the-wall appeal which unfortunately missed the mark for me completely. i didn’t love the mish-mash decor or the service which apparently calls for a culture of yelling at customers and using terms like ‘bitches’ for the bathroom etc - not my vibe. the wine was served in a tiny glass and the menufoodprices were far too expensive, even for the large portions. the burger patty was very pink in the middle- not something i enjoy. i wouldn’t return or recommend.
