although thecoppermill's menu is short, it features a good variety of classics and some more unusual items, all of which sound enticing.
i ended up opting for the coddled egg dish because i was intrigued by what a coddled egg is. it turns out that it is rather like soft-boiled egg. as google explains, "soft-boil or coddle method: coddling causes the yolk to become slightly thickened and warm." which would explain why it was served with toast soldiers, except served shell-less in a jar rather than in shelled and in an egg holder. the inclusion of the sweet potato puree added another dimension to the overall taste of the dish, its sweetness contrasting with the saltiness of the egg and bacon.
jm ordered the bacon and egg roll, which sounded solid yet simultaneously boring. this is a problem with the brekkie/brunch classics: whilst they are fail-safe flavours, they are by the same vein also rather unexceptional. jm's verdict echoed this: whilst it was tasty, there was nothing special about it. indeed, there was a slight imbalance in the bun-to-filling ratio.
overall, thecoppermill is a solid brunch spot. and the best part? it is extremely reasonably priced.
