the way to (not) run a restaurant in sydney.
me: i'd like to make a reservation for dinner tomorrow night.
the butler: i'm sorry we're fully booked.
me: oh, can i put my name on a waiting list?
the butler: not until after we open tomorrow afternoon.
me: what?
the butler: we start the waiting list on the day.......
me: what if someone cancels today for their reservation tomorrow?
the butler: ....but we do keep about 40% of the restaurant empty for walk-ins so you could try dropping past tomorrow evening.
me: so you won't take my confirmed booking now in preference for the chance that i may or may not walk by tomorrow.
the butler: correct.
me: i will never eat here.....ever!!!!!

loved it. my husband took me to the butler after hearing a lot of good things about it and we absolutely loved it. it has everything you could ask for, the setting is amazing and the food was great. we'll definitely be back.

the butler missed the mark for me. great decor, amazing view, the service was also very good. unfortunately the food was just average. the tuna carpaccio was disappointing. the lamb ribs and sides were ok but just did not live up to the hype. great place for a drink on the balcony but the food needs some work.

susan harrington. food was fabulous!! very fresh and interesting choices. being primarily vegetarian, there were plenty of tasty choices--loved the caulifower! however, was with a group of meateaters who were in heaven with the sliders, even lamb's brain! view spectacular, great vibe, lovely service. can't wait to go back!

disappointing!!. i never have given anyone a bad review or even feel so strongly to do so!
we were group of 5 people with couple of guests from melbourne and all were very excited to check out this new venue. we were told that we need to wait for 1 or 1.5 hours to get a table and we agreed to have some drinks at the bar and left our name and number on waiting list. we paid $80 for a bottle of wine that we could easily get for $50 and after 2 hours they said we need to wait another 45min or 1 hour!!
we decided to leave but asked them to call us when a table is ready because we probably will have another drink or so and come back for dinner and they didn't even call us after one more hour!!! none of us had ever experienced such rude staff and inhospitable restaurant so we even went back and politely told them how disappointed we were and the girl who we talked to was basically spaced out!! 5 of us are shocked and so not excited to go back!
we were tired otherwise would ask to see the manager.
i would highly recommend not going to this place or making sure you have booked a table because they clearly don’t have this whole waiting list system properly planned.

my husband took me on a date night and we were absolutely blown away! the venue is beautiful with a spectacular view. the tabasco prawns and lamb ribs were delightful and the cocktails went down a treat. pop in and do yourself a favor! one of the best places in sydney, hands down!

ondine. i was absolutely blown away by the butler, not only is the position, view, decor, friendly staff amazing, the food is incredibly good. eating there was a wonderful experience., and the service top class. we were treated like royalty, whilst sitting in the beautiful space, looking over the top of the city, with greenery all around. the food was the gorgeous, a lovely french themed menu, absolutely delicious. i thoroughly recommend it, we will be going again very soon.

jon. this was a real find. i actually came across it by accident because i don't spend much time in that area. what attracted me was the beautiful front door so i booked a lunch for my wife's birthday. there were 6 of us and we were all very impressed. we sat out the back and spend the first 15 minutes just being in awe of the view.

the service was friendly but not in your face. my wife had a colourful cocktail which she said was fabulous.

the food was really great. i thought the sliders were great and i had, amongst other things, the salted cod which was perfectly done.. the chips were served beautifully in a glass.]

we all had a great time and will certainly return. it's prices are very reasonable considering the quality.

the butler is applejack’s fourth venue ( bondi hardware , the botanist and soca l) being the first three. like the others, all the applejack venues have a food and bar focus and this time, hamish and ben takes you to the french carribean in a fantastic reworked mezzaluna. it’s all high ceilings, botanical wall covering and a richly luxe green space out on the balcony. service is also expedient with a breakdown of the menu and recommendations on what to eat. once you head down the “small house component” with its front bar and living room styled seating, the journey down and into butlers main space will impress. its smartly finished and lovely to look at with abundant day light when you enter. the styling a mix of hamptonesque colonial cool is quite beautiful. there’s an airiness and the view of the sydney skyline here is rather impressive – especially when you’re futher off and walking lengthwise across the room and seeing the city pan. the long bar sits at the back and we’re partial to being seated at the bar – the commotion and flurry of activity that happens here is always fun to partake in. salt cod croquettes – with a curried mayo. salty crunchy with liquid insides

large booking - banquet. we had quite a large party on saturday night. the venue is pretty amazing, great decor, great vibe, service was pretty good and laid back, which is nice. the carafes of drinks were delicious. wine menu was pretty good and good variety. the food was delicious.. but the banquet $55 honestly left most people on the table hungry (including the girls)... for 10 people to share 2 plates per dish seemed to be a bit on a small side so that would be my only comment. other that that the actual food itself was delicious and i was extremely jealous of my friend who got a full meal (steak) which would have been pretty nice!

impossibly creamy innards, gorgeous buttery flavour and teamed perfectly with artichoke, peas, browned butter and a good dose of lemon.

opening night. we live in the neighbourhood and have been anticipating the opening of this venue for some time and it didn't disappoint. the decor is simple and elegant and the views are amazing.
we had a variety of dishes from boudin noir sliders, deep fried cauliflower, salmon and pork belly and a few oysters, all of which were very tasty and portion sizes generous. a couple at the table next to us had the steak tartare and the croquettes which also looked great. service was ok but i think they were finding their feet, might need a little polish.
