the butchery / vera's burger shack

love love love this place. theymakeeverything fresh and it's worth the wait! the milkshakes are the bomb! it's a vancouver company and its only getting bigger and better! they now have dinner options wednesday to friday nights before 9:30!

they sell raw meat andmakeraw sausages in addition to burgers. asked to buy what's left of the turkey sausages (about 6). they said there was so few left because the meat arrived late the day before. i thought that meant the sausages were made that morning, so when they found more in the back, i bought them too. that should've been my clue -- they were selling me stale sausages that they were about to throw out. i got sick from eating them. unscrupulous people with no morals!

watch the labelling on your meat. while i have always enjoyed the butchery i don't get out to bells corners very often.
i doubt i will go anymore however because my last trip was... disappointing? i prefer to give the benefit of the doubt except, the staff behind the counters know their product and their codes very well...
so, last time when i got home and saw that the beef i had purchased had been labelled and charged for as if it were lamb, i was quite upset. there is a significant price difference! i bought multiple items and it was busy in the store with a lineup at the cash so didn't review the receipt and pricing until i got home.
i doubt this was an accident since as i say, the people behind the counter at this place know what they are doing.
so, just saying - - -makesure you triple check what they are charging you for! i felt really shocked and like they had tricked me when i got home. in spite of the numerous great experiences prior to this one bad experience, i will very likely avoid this place in the future unless i need something i can't find elsewhere. it's disrespectful to your client base to trick them or try and overcharge for meat.

waaaay overrated. i heard good reviews, so i went to check it out. i waited almost half an hour for my burger and fries. they were very expensive, so i hoped for the best. the burger was overcooked, and the fries raw. after that long wait i couldn't believe the fries weren't cooked. i won't be back, i canmakefar better myself and for 1/8th of the price.

vera's is nestled in a butcher shop (the butchery). it is a tiny place with a few seats, but they serve one of the best burgers in town. you pick your own toppings (i love the vera sauce!). the burger is huge but so juicy and tasty that i always manage to eat it all. they close fairly early (6pm most days) somakesure to check their hours. they also sell the patties in the butcher shop, so you can cook your own at home. their burgers hit the spot! yum!!

veras is good. but the ottawa version is a shell of the origional van version. if your a fan of this onemakesure to hit a veras on the west coast. they offer a very limited menu here and the fries and patties arent quite right. but i agree, its a good burger in both locations!

for a whole $3.99 you get a monstrous deli style sandwich with your choice of meat (turkey, smoked turkey, red rare roast beef, roast pork, black forest ham and smoked meat), bread (richmond bakery dark rye, light rye or bun), toppings and a beautiful kosher style brined pickle. be careful though, because you order at the deli meat counter and it can get crowded they domakesandwich mistakes. i'
