okay so yesterday was my second time here, my first being in the first week they had opened ... ! i loved it then, i loved yesterday ... ! 😍
the staff is so polite, the brightly lit place with the seating brilliantly done around the teppanyaki grills, the sounds of the chef's preparing the main courses right in front of you, it all feels very lively ... 😁😊
now about with the food i'll talk about everything that i've tried here .. !! 🙂
burnt garlic chicken soup
satisfaction in a bowl, is what i shall call this. tender chicken, a warm comforting broth, with hints of ginger and the unmistakable nuttiness of the burnt garlic. i would be happy with a big bowl of this on a cold winter day.
lamb & chicken dim sum
okay vegetarian or non vegetarian, one things for certain the pastry on the outside is beautifully thin. individually speaking, succulent, juicy lamb with a hint of spice, and then there's the chicken dim sum, with moist chicken with the ginger shining through. you cannot stop at having just one. another brilliant thing that they've done is the dim sum are priced individually so instead of having a plateful of the same dim sum, you can be adventurous and try out so many others.
ebi cracker
all the sensory experiences of having a sushi but with flavours that one is familiar with 😊
super crunchy shrimp tempura, the smoothness of the cream cheese and the sriracha mayonnaise, along with the chew of the rice .. !! you get a little sweetness from the pickled pepper, while the cream cheese, takes the edge of the heat from the sriracha 😍
if the crunch from the shrimp wasn't enough there's a tempura crumb sprinkled in there too for some extra crunch action 😊 you want additional bags of flavor try the soy ginger and a creamy yuzu dipping sauce ... 😊
what a wonderful way of introducing sushi to a demographic 👏 😊
get your chopstick game on and give this a try ☺️ it's not just about one dish, but the entire experience 😊
american roll
you have your perfectly done salmon, and your avocado rolled up in some sushi rice, the creaminess from the mayonnaise on top, and then there's the pop from the fish roe that keeps your plate excited.
wasabi tempura prawns
small bites sized prawns in a super crunchy tempura batter, you get the little heat from the wasabi, balanced with an acid, an absolutely delightful plate of food.
bar-be-qué chicken bao
okay so this was my first experience with a bao, so i don't have a reference in my head to compare it to .. ! but if bao is as delicious as this, then i won't mind having it on a daily basis .. ! 😍 a soft pillowy bao, the chicken, succulent and dressed in a light barbeque sauce with a hint of sweetness, the crunch from the vegetables and the micro green's adds a splash of colour .. 😍
lamb in a black pepper sauce
succulent strips of lamb, in a rich peppery sauce, the vegetables in there not overdone, still retain their crunch and gives you some texture against the lusciousness of the sauce and the succulent lamb. this goes absolutely brilliantly with the sticky rice that they have.
prawns yellow curry
plump, juicy prawns in a coconut milk based yellow curry, with hints of ginger, garlic, lemon grass, and the vegetables again retaining the bite, gives you texture and flavour too. paired with their sticky rice, make for a very very satisfactory meal. honestly, give a goan some rice and a delicious curry, he's happy.
banoffee pie
i would go to say that it's probably the best banoffee i have had in town. i could go on about how many textures are in the there, how the flavours play off well against each other, but i won't do that. just go, try this .. ! go go go .. !
another beautiful thing that th's has done is introduce the concept of an amuse bouche ( little bite sized portions, the correct term being "hors d'oeuvre", which differ from an appetizer in that they're not ordered off the menu but are served complimentary by the chef and the flavours are at his or her discretion ) i've gotten the chance to try 3, watermelon sorbet, wasabi sorbet and yogurt & jaggery. watermelon is good, light, fresh, you get the watermelon, the the yogurt & jaggery, in terms of mouth feel is completely opposite to the sorbets, you gulp down this semi set sphere that's served cold and just pops in your mouth making you go " ohh that was unexpected ", once you get past the theatre of it, you get the umaminess of the jaggery and then the slight tang from the yogurt. but by far the most interesting is the wasabi sorbet, refreshingly cold, a little hear from the wasabi, a little sweetness, then in the background there's the acid from the lemon or lime or possibly some rice wine vinegar, this will totally wake your palate up and prepare you for the next course.
also not just their non vegetarian, i had a chance to sample some of their vegetarian offerings too and 'm blown over .. ! very rarely you come across a place that does both very well, this surely is one of them.
apart from all this what impressed me the most is the fact that they have taken the trouble to study and research the local palate and have adapted their sushi to suit that local palate, which is a beautiful way of introducing sushi to a populace that might not take to it with enthusiasm if you were to serve it as it is. but if you think you'll not get proper sushi here, think again, they do have sushi and sashimi on the menu for you to try.
okay i'll stop now so you can actually go try it all for yourself. go go go.
a well deserved 5 out of 5.
