when we arrived, we were asked to go to a waiting area which was really spacious. it can be a separate restaurant by itself because of its area. there are free drinks available as you wait, and the most interesting part is that there are saddles where you can sit on while waiting, and drinking your beverage. it was so cool! the restaurant is also very roomy. there is an area with a high ceiling. there is also an area with a long table which is probably suitable for a more private dining experience.

when we were seated to our reserved table, the waiter asked for our appetizers. we had the texas quail bites. these are grilled marinated quails wrapped in bacon with a thin slice of jalapeño and these come with a spicy ranch dressing and a dr. pepper barbeque sauce. this was the best appetizer for me. there was so much flavor in every bite! there was a lot of things going on at the same time! there was perfect heat, sweetness, and saltiness altogether. and just in case you guys missed it, it was bacon-wrapped. i believe i have said enough.

another appetizer we had was the jalapeño stuffed shrimp. these are large fried shrimps, battered and stuffed with monterey jack cheese and a slice of mild jalapeño for some heat. this is served with a cilantro-tomatillo sauce. given that i am allergic to shrimp, i typically do not eat much of these. but after tasting this dish, i just had to give my angry belly 3 of these. unlike other shrimp dishes which rely heavily on their sauces, this one is very flavorful in itself and i do not even know how they do it. i don’t want to question it. i just want to eat it. excellent dish! that’s coming from a guy who’s allergic to shrimp.

after finishing our appetizers, we were asked for our steak orders. i had the bone-in filet which will set you back $59.95 and i went for the option where i can wrap the side of my steak with a strip of bacon topped with jumbo lump crab meat with hollandaise sauce. this costs an additional $9.95. the bone-in filet is a 14-ounce “bone-in” center cut filet. it’s much more flavorful because it is aged on the bone. and another cool thing with the taste of texas is, if it’s your firsttimein their restaurant, you can go to their kitchen and handpick your meat yourself. they will put a number on it so that you will know that it’s your chosen meat on your plate.

while our steaks were being cooked, we were prompted to have our salad buffet. their salad buffet has a lot to offer. from different kinds of cheese, to root crops, greens, mushrooms, and even caviar.

and here comes the main event. the certified angus beef steaks. i had a hardtimetaking photos because i was too excited to have a bite! i hope these would do for you guys. the steak was very tender. most importantly, there was no need for any sauce. the flavor was all there. i put the crab meat on one side and the bacon on the other side. then i found myself marveling at the fact that i have 3 delicious animals on my plate. it was a joy to eat. glorious, in fact. i wish i could have this meal again with the other angry bellies next time.

to be honest, i think this dish ruined all other steaks for me. it seems like things will never be the same way again when it comes to steaks. that’s probably the only downside.

guys, seriously, if i give the bone-in filet of the taste of texas 5 out of 5, it would be a huge understatement. it won’t do the dish any justice.

i apologize to the folks at the taste of texas, but i can only give a rating of 5. definitely worth a try, everyone! no doubt, i will come back!

we ordered one medium ribeye and one medium filet mignon. the waitress took a note on the meat we chose. however, both of the meat came as well-done not even medium-well. they offered to replace the meat but we didn't have muchtimefor another meat. so we had to eat grey meat. if there was an overcooking problem with only one of the meats i would understand. but i can't understand how such a well known steakhouse could burn both meats. another problem is extremely slow service. we waited for 50 minutes for the meats.

the name says it all. true taste of texas. share tomahawk steak with a pair of friends. expensive and always jam packed on weekends.

it was our firsttimeeating at taste of texas restaurant and it was a really good experience. came for a sunday lunch with my friend, they have a good selection of self serve salad, bread and cheese. i had a ribeye that you can go with the butcher and select your cut, the friend got burgers which they liked very much. service was very attentive. the restaurant has a western classy feeling which means that you can either have a relaxing lunch or a formal date dinner. overall great food, great service and not overpriced.

worst steak ever. i selected the 16 oz sirloin, medium. the steak initially came out rare, when they returned the steak the secondtimeit was well done. they then returned the steak a thirdtimeand it was still displeasing. the steak not only was not cooked properly, it was also the toughest steak i have ever eaten. my mother had to send her steak back as well. the server was very pleasant, but the manager only came to speak to us once and did not bother to follow up with us. i am extremely disappointed. i would definitely not recommend this place. flemings is also in city centre and awesome!

alltimefavorite. taste of texas is our alltimefavorite for great steak. always a pleasure to dine with them. many wine choices, very large and varied salad bar, oh those rolls... we go here just for their steak and are always delighted with our meal. just for dinner or to celebrate with family or friends, they can accommodate your every request. well trained staff, always clean and ready to please. we will go there again this weekend. don't miss out on a great houston tradition.

a houston must!. perfect spot for a romantic evening. went there on my anniversary and had a really good time. everyone there was so friendly, really friendly. looked like there is always a wait if you're going there around dinner time. you definitely need to be prepared to spend more than you would at an average restaurant. they do it first class, so the money you'll spend will be well worth it. had a 20 oz. ribeye, cooked almost perfect, not enough seasoning but no big deal, i have louisiana taste buds. not real big on salad but the salad is a do it yourself salad bar, so by thetimei fixed it, it was one of the better salads i've had, really. got a desert to go, a snicker pie, which was on the house. i'll definitely be going back!

ehh.... first place i hit up once i moved to texas... steak was on point as it should be since this place prides itself on the way it raises its cattle and it even came with a # tag in it, but lacked bigtimeon the sides. it's as if they just didn't care about anything but the meat!

would go again but wasn't as impressed as i thought i would be...

wine list is extensive for you winos...

this is how to eat a steak.. the steak is incredible. it is very expensive, but makes a nice treat as the quiet atmosphere, generous drink selection, and delicious menu make for a great dining experience.

it is a unique steakhouse in that they have a salad and cheese bar you visit before getting your entree, and the variety of foods at the bar is great. i've never had any food, steak or otherwise, that wasn't delicious.

the waiters are well-informed and can help make suggestions. it does have quite a formal atmosphere, you'll want to dress nice and be prepared to use your best manners.

the steaks are a little slice of heaven ... everyone who spends any amount oftimein houston should visit at least once. this locally-owned houston favorite is texas dining & hospitality at its finest.
no wonder houston is the fourth most obese city in the nation - with taste of texas, we have a good reason to be!

even having lunch there is no waste oftimeand money. great food, nice atmosphere and excellent service :) you pay maybe a bit more but for that you don't get this fancy, modern ripoff restaurant everyone is keen on since sex in the city.

classic texas steakhouse. taste of texas boasts one of my favorite steakhouse atmospheres. it combines superior quality meats and sides without the hoitey toitey air of a luxury restaurant. the staff is very knowledgable and is always friendly. any place that lets you walk to the kitchen and hand pick your fresh cut steak is a greattimein my book.

great steaks. really good food, and on par price wise with every other big name steak house in town. kind of the older crowd though. (50+) if you want good food this if the right place, but if you want good food and a cool atmosphere, i would suggest something else. i have enjoyed it everytimei have been.

...although i had to send my steak back twice. this place is a bit gimmicky and it's pricey. the food is good though, and so is the wine list. it's noisy, and always crowded and not as cozy as a perry's or vic & anthony's, but the steak is comparable and you end up spending less money. great dessert selections. i'm not a big fan of salad bars. the lasttimei was there, i had to return my steak twice (sooo reluctantly as i hate to do that) but it just was not cooked how i ordered. that being said, i'm a little high maintenance on my steak as i want no pink, but minimal charring on the outside. i'm really up front about that though. even after they brought it back the 2nd time, it still wasn't right so i just gave up. the other three people i dined with got theirs perfect the first time. the waiter was so apologetic and genuine. the manager ended up giving me my entree for free and he gave us a $40 voucher for our next visit, so i really think they did a good job of trying to make it up to me. i'm not holding that against them as they handled it as well as it could've been handled... well, other than ever getting it right. ;)

okay this place is pricey. the steak is very good but i'm sure there are other places that serve more or less the same quality meats. i love the salad bar and the desserts - particularly the pecan pie. the service has always been good since the first the firsttimei ate there and the deco and atmosphere is nice. is it worth the price? it depends...if you're out with guests or clients then, yes. if you want to satisfy your craving for a cow, then there're other good steakhouses you can go to for less money.

sidenote: the fish/seafood is really not worth ordering.
if paying high prices then having to see ppl walk around in shorts and flip flops offends you, then don't go during the weekends!!

my daughter's favorite place. almost everytimewe ask our 13 year old were she wants to eat, her answer is taste of texas....and we almost always order the same thing - prime rib. they do a consistently fabulous job at it. the salad bar is also nice - small, but good quality items and again, my daughter zones in on the mammoth blocks of cheese that she can slice paper-thin slices off for herself. my only complaint? the pr is typically accompanied by a soggy, tasteless mass, barely recognizable as corn on the cob. it's not worth eating. why bother serving it? it doesn't even look nice enough to be garnish.
