i was in town with my counterpart for a business meeting and he recommended taste of texas. excellent choice. rolls are a killer. saladbaris expansive. service was great. the steak was outstanding. best part was selecting my cut . a definite winner !

service was good and the saladbarwas comprehensive however the porterhouse was just okay. after dinner we had the desert served in the glass boot. it was tasty but the cinnamon was overpowering.

pretty good as usual. i always get the stuffed jalapeños with cilantro sauce. the cheeseburger was not too bad but five guys taste better to me. the saladbarhas a lot to offer. service was good and our server was very polite and prompt.
very good but too pricy. you can find similar tasting stakes in the city for cheaper.

we went to the taste of texas last night for a birthday celebration. i wanted it to be special and we both decided this would be a nice place to go to. it was supposed to be right p there with  ruth chris, not. it was more like an upscale outback steakhouse only  more expensive. we were not impressed. dinner was over $200 for 2 people! saladbarwas definitely not up to par. it was not what we considered fine dining. it was noisy; it was not as clean. crowded about an hour’s wait, and to tell you the truth the steaks were not as good as what we can make at home, when we buy the steak at either central market or costco's dedicated meat counter. the prime rib was awful.  the ambiance definitely was not conducive for a date night, as you could barely hear the person you were with. neither one of us want to go back. definitely overpriced for what you get.

good value, great service. steak was excellent. i got the ny strip and was able to pick my cut, cooked perfect. garlic butter sauce makes the steak. saladbarwas great. i will be back.

really neat how there's a variety of meats that you can choose from and have it cooked your way. i came here with my family for a celebration and the service was good. the steaks are delicious and the saladbarwas a nice touch.

the establishment has been cleanish...clean sometimes and other times not i much but i guess it just depends on when you get there and how busy it is.

best steaks in houston. you can keep your stuck up steak places. taste of texas produces the best product with the best service. they don't rip you off with extra charges for sides and even the saladbaris excellent. we always take out of towners there.

very tasty. visiting houston on business. we asked our co-workers about a good place for dinner and we weren't disappointed. i kept it "light" and at a 16oz new york strip steak. you can buy rib eye by the pound!

good saladbarand excellent desserts but you'll want to save room for the meat. after all that's why you go there.

my steak was cooked properly. i had a blue cheese spread added to it as an extra. all very tasty.

by 630pm on a tuesday, there was quite a wait for a table. very popular.

my family and i have been dining at the taste of texas for the past 15 years or so & it's our families' favorite place to celebrate important occasions, ie birthdays, etc. yes, the prices have gotten higher, but then again prices of everything (steaks all over the place), have soared. i happen to like their saladbarand grabbing my own bread because i can grab as much as i want and even take home. it feels "homey" here. they have free chips & salsa, popcorn, & soft drinks to munch & sip on while you wait (crowded on weekends). my go to steak is the 16 oz ribeye and i get seasoned with lemon pepper & garlic butter, med rare, & that steak is nice presented on a hot plate shaped like a cow... service is always very good. we have never had bad service in all these years...and that means a lot! there are many fancy steak places out there, but my family & i love tot bc of the many wonderful memories we've shared here and that this place has maintained it's high quality. there are many places to eat steak, but there are few places who have loyal customers who keep coming back for years and share with the next generation. thanks tot! i will definitely be back soon!

i heard a lot of good things about this place and i found it be a bit disappointing. with the pricing you would expect top quality food and flavor. my ribeye steak had a good flavor with the lemon pepper and garlic mix but the steak was not very tender. the saladbarwas standard but fresh. the au gratin potatoes tasted like a boxed product and i also had the fresh sautéed mushrooms which tasted like they were sautéed in water. it is by no stretch terrible food but the quality does not match the price. also the restaurant ambiance was old fashion and a little run down. i'd give them a 3/5.

one of the best. love this place! it's a casual steakhouse. service is ok, not anything compared to pappas bros or fogo de chao. but like i said this is a very casual place. saladbaris delicious, jalalpeno cornbread is to die for!!! my steak was only seasoned with salt and pepper and that is all it needed. it was super tasty, the best steak i have ever had-it was super lean as well! snickers cheesecake is the best dessert! this is a must if you want to eat well!!!wish there was one on the southside of town.

it's ok. but i've honestly had a better $20 ribeye in small town joints. it was probably just overhyped. the saladbarwas ok had a interesting cilantro dressing and a cactus dressing that was good. there was a carrot but salad on thebarthat was probably my favorite thing in the whole place.

steak was unevenly cooked most far beyond med rare as i ordered. while te garlic butter looke promising it didn't add much flavor. the steak was decent but for the money i can't say i like the place.

side note why is it that the higher end the restaurant the bigger the asparagus? my favorite asparagus is the slimmer grilled. these were huge but bland. hollendaise was bland as well.

i'd take salt grass over this place.

this is how to eat a steak.. the steak is incredible. it is very expensive, but makes a nice treat as the quiet atmosphere, generous drink selection, and delicious menu make for a great dining experience.

it is a unique steakhouse in that they have a salad and cheesebaryou visit before getting your entree, and the variety of foods at thebaris great. i've never had any food, steak or otherwise, that wasn't delicious.

the waiters are well-informed and can help make suggestions. it does have quite a formal atmosphere, you'll want to dress nice and be prepared to use your best manners.

the steaks are a little slice of heaven ... everyone who spends any amount of time in houston should visit at least once. this locally-owned houston favorite is texas dining & hospitality at its finest.
no wonder houston is the fourth most obese city in the nation - with taste of texas, we have a good reason to be!
