very texas. the prices are equal to a ruth's chris or morton's but the atmosphere is very down home texas. greatplaceto take out of towners if you want to give them a taste of texas.

perhaps i should try again?. with so many options in town i have only tried thisplacetwice. once with a large group and once with just 4 people. while the atmosphere is relaxing to a country boy like myself, i did not like my steak either trip. everyone else in our party seemed to like it, but i just did not think my steaks were good at all. i wanted to like it here, but it was not even ok. they weren't too keen on making it right on my last trip, so i pretty much filed them in the "do not return" box in my head. in my opinion there are many better choices for a steak in houston - starting with my back yard.

finally, we come to the good-old american steakhouse, and taste of texas is theplaceto go for juicy angus beef. once you have selected your entree, you can even venture into the ‘butcher shop’ to choose your steak. i doubt your average diner could tell the difference between two un-cooked pieces of meat, but why pass up the chance to make your dining experience feel even more gourmet?

a must stop in houston

thisplaceis a one of a kind restaurant in the houston area. it’s a single location privately ownedplacethat caters to the customers.

the menu had excellent options but of course they are know for steaks. you can go in the kitchen and personally pick your cut of meat which is really cool!

the steak was cooked to perfection and melts in your mouth! the brussel sprouts was a good complimented the steak and were flavorful and tasty.

lastly, i had some cinnamon ice cream that is made by blue bell only for taste of texas. they bring it out in a homemade toffee bowl that goes perfect with the ice cream, this is a must try... you won’t be disappointed!

the staff is very friendly and the service is great!

you have to try this place!

we went to the taste of texas last night for a birthday celebration. i wanted it to be special and we both decided this would be a niceplaceto go to. it was supposed to be right p there with  ruth chris, not. it was more like an upscale outback steakhouse only  more expensive. we were not impressed. dinner was over $200 for 2 people! salad bar was definitely not up to par. it was not what we considered fine dining. it was noisy; it was not as clean. crowded about an hour’s wait, and to tell you the truth the steaks were not as good as what we can make at home, when we buy the steak at either central market or costco's dedicated meat counter. the prime rib was awful.  the ambiance definitely was not conducive for a date night, as you could barely hear the person you were with. neither one of us want to go back. definitely overpriced for what you get.

very tasty. visiting houston on business. we asked our co-workers about a goodplacefor dinner and we weren't disappointed. i kept it "light" and at a 16oz new york strip steak. you can buy rib eye by the pound!

good salad bar and excellent desserts but you'll want to save room for the meat. after all that's why you go there.

my steak was cooked properly. i had a blue cheese spread added to it as an extra. all very tasty.

by 630pm on a tuesday, there was quite a wait for a table. very popular.

my family and i have been dining at the taste of texas for the past 15 years or so & it's our families' favoriteplaceto celebrate important occasions, ie birthdays, etc. yes, the prices have gotten higher, but then again prices of everything (steaks all over the place), have soared. i happen to like their salad bar and grabbing my own bread because i can grab as much as i want and even take home. it feels "homey" here. they have free chips & salsa, popcorn, & soft drinks to munch & sip on while you wait (crowded on weekends). my go to steak is the 16 oz ribeye and i get seasoned with lemon pepper & garlic butter, med rare, & that steak is nice presented on a hot plate shaped like a cow... service is always very good. we have never had bad service in all these years...and that means a lot! there are many fancy steak places out there, but my family & i love tot bc of the many wonderful memories we've shared here and that thisplacehas maintained it's high quality. there are many places to eat steak, but there are few places who have loyal customers who keep coming back for years and share with the next generation. thanks tot! i will definitely be back soon!

i heard a lot of good things about thisplaceand i found it be a bit disappointing. with the pricing you would expect top quality food and flavor. my ribeye steak had a good flavor with the lemon pepper and garlic mix but the steak was not very tender. the salad bar was standard but fresh. the au gratin potatoes tasted like a boxed product and i also had the fresh sautéed mushrooms which tasted like they were sautéed in water. it is by no stretch terrible food but the quality does not match the price. also the restaurant ambiance was old fashion and a little run down. i'd give them a 3/5.

ehh.... firstplacei hit up once i moved to texas... steak was on point as it should be since thisplaceprides itself on the way it raises its cattle and it even came with a # tag in it, but lacked big time on the sides. it's as if they just didn't care about anything but the meat!

would go again but wasn't as impressed as i thought i would be...

wine list is extensive for you winos...

classic texas steakhouse. taste of texas boasts one of my favorite steakhouse atmospheres. it combines superior quality meats and sides without the hoitey toitey air of a luxury restaurant. the staff is very knowledgable and is always friendly. anyplacethat lets you walk to the kitchen and hand pick your fresh cut steak is a great time in my book.

boring. thisplacebores me, the decor is not exactly original for texas. the meat is ok, the prices are high, same old story, the salad bar is pathetic and uninspiring. i will not be going back in a hurry.

paying for the experience more than anything. like other have said on here, i too feel that a better steak could be had for a much lower price elsewhere. however, the reason i 'liked" thisplaceis because of the fact that they do things like texas history lectures for schoolchildren and have museum quality artifacts up for patrons to view. the atmosphere is very nice and warm, and i thought our server was very knowledgeable. i would recommend thisplaceif you wanted to impress someone, but not so much if what you are concerned about is the very best steak you can eat.
