a local legend that kickstarted the mainstream appeal of authentic taco places in chattanooga, taqueria jalisco has become a must-have staple for foodies in the surrounding area. i've tried pretty much all of the toppings for the tacos saves jalapeno, and they are all awesome! chicken, of course, is a favorite of mine! as always, a taqueria is only asgoodas its salsa, so fittingly, taqueria jalisco's salsa is simply incredible! with some of the best food downtown, and indisputably some of the best prices, here's hoping that this place stays around for centuries to come!

authentic and amazing.. for a long time i've looked forgoodauthentic mexican food and this is the place. best mexican i've ever had since i moved from the mexico/texas border. awesome prices, great service, goodselections and amazing food. they even had mexican sodas! i am never disappointed. my boyfriend and i come here once a week. my only complaint is that sometimes they close early randomly and they don't serve alcohol.

good indeed. we dropped in for a late lunch today with three of our favorite dining pals. two had been here a couple of times and were impressed enough to set up a meet. i am glad they did.

i brought a sixer of tecate and mr. g brought bohemia so we were set for beer. the ladies variously had diet coke and water. we started with chips and salsa and an order of guacamole. the folks who had been here previously said they had not enjoyed the guac the time they ordered. this time it was good, just added a bit of lime juice to make sure it was awake. the standard red salsa served with the chips was no big deal, but the bottled red sauce definitely had some heat and the green salsa was wonderfully tangy with the flavor of tomatillos.

my order was mexican style tacos; one each chorizo, pastor and shrimp. the chorizo was excellent, well flavored and not dripping grease. the pastor wasgoodbut not up to the class of the chorizo, the shrimp was tasty enough but slightly overcooked and a bit dry. mrs. bear had a mango, avocado and seafood ceviche which was very nice, two others in the party had this dish and enjoyed it as well. mrs. bear also ordered a chicken sope which was quitegoodas well.

all in all just shy of excellent. the dry shrimp and the lack of a protein any more adventurous than lengua were disappointing, but we will be back.

delicious and fresh! please don't go expecting your typical cheese covered "mexican" dish because it is so much better than that! i had the mole tamal, tilapia taco and barbacoa taco and all three were sogoodthat i couldn't pick a favorite. support local and go try this place!

carne asada.... was a real let down. it was not skirt steak as listed on the menu but instead a piece of thinly sliced top round. i probably should have mentioned it but i did not. the place was packed but they have a really small seating area. i suggest that one stick to the tacos for the first visit. i will probably try another entree, but not the carne asada. the guacamole was reallygoodtoday. the sopes got agoodvote today and the gordita a vote down.

nice little place.... for fresh mexican food. usually i head to dalton for what one might consider real mexican food at a small family owned restaurant but this is one exception. i really like the food. for those that are troubled by greasy chorizo, you will be pleased to know that is not the case at taqueria jalisco. i have only been once for tacos with a side of chiles toreados but i will be back to try the carne asada as it is something i use to gauge a mexican restaurant. the service is just so so. another visit could be telling ???
