i went to tangerine last sunday for brunch with a friend. i orders a side pancake with a couple of other items. when the guy brought our food out, i wasn't sure if i had told the waitress to make the pancake gluten free. i asked the server if it was in fact gluten free and he said he would check with the cook to make sure. i told him i have an auto-immune disorder and can't have any gluten. he came back and assured me it was the gluten free pancake. well, it wasn't. by that evening i was feeling some digestive distress and by the next morning i broke out in a psoriasis around my mouth (only something that happens when i eat gluten) and other symptoms. i called to speak with the manager...not to make a stink but to let him know how important it was for the staff to know they have to be careful with gluten for some customers. themanagerproceeded to tell me that the servers are young and they aren't always careful. he tries to tell them to pay attention but they don't always listen. there was no accountability from themanageror responsibility for his lack of training his staff. gluten for people with celiac and other auto-immune disorders can reek havoc on their entire body for up to 3 months when they digest it. tangerines is a restaurant who touts themselves as being gluten conscious but if you can't trust what the staff says and themanagerhas a "shit happens" attitude, then this is not a restaurant to trust.
