i haven't visited tan thanh for a few years, used to come here frequently with my family as we lived around the area.
i ordered the pho tai bo vien which is sliced beef and beef balls. the broth was very good and favoursome.
the vietnamese iced coffee had a good kick to it, very sweet to start off with but once the ice started to melt it was nicely balanced.
pho was consistent as i remembered it to be however i now know why i prefer not to dine here as often as the pho is packed with msg. it left my mouth and throat very dry. however very tasty food and it's one of those meals you know will leave you feeling the consequences afterwards but you end up eating it because it's tasty.

pho used to be good a million years ago. the people were shitty though so didn't come here often. owners changed or something and now it's only okay but wouldn't return though.

walk down a narrow dark arcade, look opposite the parole office at inala civic centre. if you are still not sure, just listen for trance beats pumping from somewhere within. that is where you will find not an underground dance club, but brisbane’s supposedly best bowl of pho. tan thanh traditional vietnamese restaurant is the place. located in the central shopping district of brisbane suburb inala, is typical in appearance when you enter. tiled floor, sparse decoration and menu on the walls and full of locals, you have a fair idea of what you are in for.

delicious food. curry lemongrass chicken and sugarcane prawns with rice paper & salad, just delicious, hearty portions at a very reasonable price. efficient friendly service and we walked out feeling wonderful.

this restaurant is the best i have come across for vietnamese food in this city.

pho. is this worth the 50 minute drive from home to get a bowl of pho? yes.

pro tip: while you're there, hit up the car park snack bar for some banh mi thit (pork rolls). that's some top tier brisbane pho and banh mi thit right there.

if you are in brisbane and craving authentic vietnamese food, find your way to inala. the tables at tan thanh are always packed, so make like a local and share one of the long tables with some strangers. this place is well known for their steaming hot bowls of fragrant pho. at under $10 for most meals it won’t break the bank either. vermicelli noodles served with ginger pork, spring rolls, tangy mint and crunchy sprouts is the best i have found in brisbane. the crispy skinned chicken sure lived up to its name – super crispy and packed full of flavour. the lemon iced tea has the exact flavour of that we have consumed on the streets of saigon. such a easier on a hot day. while you are in the area make sure you stock up on some groceries. fruit and vegetables are so fresh and supercheap. the fishmonger is a delight for the senses and the butchers have fantastic specials.

average service. shocking!!! they said they never clean the meat or check the meat before cooking. i came to tan thanh yesterday with my cousin. i order the vermicelli soup with duck salad. he order special pho. we got the order in 10 mins later, when i started my soup, the taste was not bad but too much msg and sugar, it does not come from the bone soup as tradition way. then i stared noticing that the duck had a lot of hair on its skin, and lots of fat too, also one of the piece was the bottom of the duck. yuck, bad. i asked the waiter why didn't they remove duck feather on the skin properly. it was not acceptable. he then replied that, their restaurant bought the duck and boiled them without cleansing it, the problem was from the butcher where they bought their met. what the heck.
never want to return to this place.

when i got there i was surprised about how large it was and from the outside it resembled two storage sheds/garages joined together. i ordered my standard dish, beef pho with the three bean drink while my friend got a combination rice noodle soup spicy with a coffee. the service was fast and efficient and we received our food in 5-10 mins. i was surprised by the crushed peanuts on top of my drink and found it bit strange, but overall the drink was probably the best dish of the night. my beef noodle soup was not bad, with a quite clear broth, however compared to other restaurants i’ve been to, it wasn’t outstanding and the noodle portions was small. the shredded pork rice rolls was as expected, although i am not quite used to cold food and even with the dipping sauce, seemed dry and plain in flavour. overall i would rate this 3.5/5 mainly because of the great drink and the reasona

since they change new owner the service seem much friendlier. but the food still not good. i came to a vietnamese restaurant to order some vietnamese food on the menu and they told me it was just the name. they said the actual food is now no longer authentic because some of the westerners doesn't know how to eat vietnamese food so they change the recipe to suit the westerners taste bud. what the hell?

best pho in brisbane. next to the parole office. best broth in brisbane. i recently disovered putting stewed beef ( brisket) into a pho is now my favourite combination. the pho, the bbq pork (&crackling)wonton noodle soup, crispy skin chicken are all excellent. better than any in west end. only cash. go into the centre square for cheapest and best asian fruit herbs and veg in brisbane from local growers. park on bus side.
