local recommended this place to us!. the atmosphere was amazing and theservicewas great! i had the pan-fried pork shoulder and pretty much licked the plate clean!! my boyfriend had the gulf shrimp and littleneck clams and loved it as well! would highly recommend this place especially if you're not trying to go somewhere touristy.

the overall ambiance of the restaurant is great and theservicewas excellent. however our reservation was for 9pm and we were only seated at 9:30pm. we were told to walk around and come back later as the reservation was delayed. also, the restaurant was so dark that we could not see what we were eating. we were using the flashlight on our phones to check out our dish when it was served.

being foodies from portland or, the bar is high, even in a foodie town like nola. sylvain knocked us out! friendlyservicewith great recommendations by joe, and even patient sharing of local knowledge. outstanding plates of perfectly combined flavors. not to be missed is fried eggplant with burratta and the endive & fennel salad. the cocktails also really rocked!

total disappointment.... wanted to visit sylvain for quite some time as i was told about the incredible barservice& craft cocktails. couldn't have been more disappointed. rude bartenders & horrible craft cocktails. no care put in to them at all. if the drinks &serviceare this poor i would never try the sweetbreads (which i would have stayed for...) i will never be back & i will discourage all others form wasting their time. such a huge let down...

very good and creative food options, an interesting wine list, and goodserviceall in a comfortable setting. ingredients are locally sourced and handled well. prices reflect the quality.

i have lived in new orleans my entire life and never knew this gem of a restaurant existed! the food was absolutely excellent! and as for the service, it was perfect. not overbearing as some restaurants do, yet my food arrived consistently in a timely manner and my drinks remained full. i cannot say enough about the taste and quality of the food, and i only wish i would have had more room to taste several other menu items i had my eye on. i will most certainly be returning!

for those who have complained about the sweetbreads with hot sauce, and wish it would have been written on the menu... it was. because that is the first thing i noticed. and it was divine! read your menu more carefully next time, as every ingredient is listed as it should be on the menu. for those who have complained of theserviceand food, you must be very impatient and have a very limited palate- or you just experimented with something you have never eaten. i would suggest you give the place another try and get something that's more along the lines of what you know your eating. because that is one of the best menus i have seen in a while.

i went on the advice of a friend for my birthday and had an awesome meal. everything on the menu looked wonderful, but the pork shoulder was fantastic. even the greens were delicious and i normally hate greens.servicewas attentive but not intrusive and it was a perfect night for dining in the courtyard.

disappointed. my first visit was excellent all around and i recommended it to a number of people. my second visit i took from friends from out of town and was very disappointed by the service. the waiter was perfectly nice, but not attentive or accommodating. i expect the kitchen to run a little slow on a busy night but if you're letting a table sit there with completely empty drinks for close to 20 minutes and then you have to ask to get a beer as they guy rushes past, you've got a problem. the attitude that you're doing me a favor by allowing me in your restaurant is ridiculous. i'll go back because the food is excellent and i love the location and the feel of the place, but that won't last if theserviceremains aloof.

amazing!!!!. love love love sylvain! my husband and i travel to nola a lot and we are always looking for a new and different place to eat -- we found it with sylvain. we had the bestserviceand loved our experience. our food was awesome and the drink list was extensive. our waitress was super helpful and laid-back. she gave us just enough attention without making us feel rushed. we sat outside on the patio, which i highly recommend if the weather is nice and you're looking for a romantic dinner.

great place ruined by reservations. sylvain had developed into my go to place for moderately priced good food and drinks in the quarter. the location is prime and the ambiance ideal for date or festival of friends, but reservation policies have turned this operation ludicrous. i suggest a serious review of these policies by owners and management. this is the french quarter, i understand holding reservations for sean payton,etc., but turning away paying customers, and holding multiple (in excess of 5) open tables for reservations (that can easily be disregarded and or drunkenly missed) is a poor business practice for the area--a turned off local customer, with many years ofserviceindustry experience and three of his friends that could have easily been squeezed in creating more turns and profit this weekend.

dined there 9/15/2012 - terrible. i joined two friends for lunch on the patio...where we had reservations. instead of placing us on the patio...we were placed right next to the kitchen outside. lovely view of dirty, stacked up dishes. i don't know where to begin with how unpleasant our experience was. we waited so long for our cocktails that we had to go inside and ask the bartender for them. then the waitress, oh the waitress. by her attitude, one would assume that her favorite pet had died that day. she never once asked "how is everything?" or "can i get you anything else?"...you know, the standard things a waiter would/should ask a table.servicewith a smile was unheard of in this girls world. the food took way too long, was over priced and under seasoned. the only good thing that i ingested was my cocktail. the only reason we gave a tip was so that the bartender would get his percentage of the waitress tipout. coming from someone who has over 8 years experience in theserviceindustry and who now eats out 5 to 6 times a week, take it from me, your time and money would be much better spent elsewhere. with soooo many other options of great places to eat in new orleans do not waste your time.

delicious ****but noisy. had dinner there sat.11-12-11. the food andserviceis great, the place is cute and has an interesting menu. heirloom tomato salad with spicy sprouts was sublime. decent prices because the quality of the food is so high. wonderful tuna entree and husband's entree of beef cheeks were melting in the mouth. great service, friendly and efficient.
major problem: so noisy you may feel assaulted. i know that noisy restaurants are the hip thing but if you can't talk to your dinner partners it detracts from the meal...

went for a light dinner yesterday after the oyster fest. food was delicious but wait time was terrible. we ordered 3 salads n we waited over 35 minutes for the salads. we have been in the past n food has always been great but apparentlyserviceis better when ordering hot food
