two couples go out to dinner and all but one orders the chick-sil-vain.greatsandwich. i ordered the swordfish special and two bites in i realize my fish is completely raw in the middle. the server handled it very well & sent the manager out to apologize. i ordered the pork & beef meatballs to replace my meal. the meatballs come out &the tomato sauce is very hot but the center of the meatball is ice cold! i'm sure they tried to rush the order so i wasn't the only one at the table without food but c'mon, guys.. make it right the second time at least. the kitchen sent their condolences with a root beer float. i left hungry & $78 lighter. 4 drinks and a chicken sandwich. :/

the overall ambiance of the restaurant isgreatand the service was excellent. however our reservation was for 9pm and we were only seated at 9:30pm. we were told to walk around and come back later as the reservation was delayed. also, the restaurant was so dark that we could not see what we were eating. we were using the flashlight on our phones to check out our dish when it was served.

being foodies from portland or, the bar is high, even in a foodie town like nola. sylvain knocked us out! friendly service withgreatrecommendations by joe, and even patient sharing of local knowledge. outstanding plates of perfectly combined flavors. not to be missed is fried eggplant with burratta and the endive & fennel salad. the cocktails also really rocked!

my wife and i had dinner here on a friday night and had a wonderful meal. it was a fabulous restaurant but, we found a couple of things that we wished were a little different.
the hostess stand is towards the back of the restaurant, where their al fresco dining is, which is fine, but there is nothing in the front of the house, or in the street that lets you know that. we saw several people trying to figure out how to get into the restaurant, as we were figuring it out ourselves. some signage would be nice at the entrance to let patrons know where to find the hostess. the other issue we had was it is extremely dark, i mean really dark (forgive my picture quality). we had to use our cell phones to read the menu. i like a nice ambiance like the rest of you guys, but this was more like a bat cave, and the candle on the table was a tiny disposable one and was just not enough to read what they were offering.
that being said, i can say that the dinner was very good. i ate the veal sweetbreads and they were some of the very best i have ever eaten. i took a picture for you all and it was not of the quality i would want to post, due to the lighting. i next chose the seasonal market salad and it needed salt, quite a bit of it. i do not ask for salt in restaurants of this quality, since they frequently do not have it on the table, but it improved it a huge amount. i would say it was so-so before and good after, but not mind blowing.
what was mind blowing was the beef cheeks! oh man.....these should be on your bucket list! it was a flavor explosion and my wife conceded to me that i out ordered her by a huge amount. the beef melted in my mouth and i ate every bit of it.
my wife ordered the pot de cream and i am not a huge dessert person, but i easily gobbled down half of her dish. it is rich, with whipped cream on top, but agreattexture....somewhere between mousse and cheese cake.
i would recommend sylvain to anyone that is a foodie, you can find wonderful dishes, and pretty affordable prices, particularly if you are a little adventurous. the salad was the only thing in my meal that was not wonderful.
the only thing that took points off my rating was just how dark the main dining room was and the aforementioned salad.

disappointing would be an understatement.greatlocation, greatambiance, moderately expensive for mediocre food. soup of the day was a winter vegetable that was to include a range of winter vegetable; rutabaga, turnip, greens, what was served was a warm broth with a singular small piece of rutabaga and a half dozen or more good sized croutons... we asked for the sylvain burger to be cooked medium well it arrived medium at best. when asked to have it dressed we were informed that it's not served with lettuce and tomato but we could have ketchup and mayo if we'd like. the biscuits at $3 a pop have no jelly/jam but "maybe there's some cane syrup in the kitchen"... they don't serve ice-tea because it was on the menu but "no-one ordered it". the crispy fried pork shoulder served over grits with a tomato hollandaise sauce was luke warm... i hate to say it, but basically the brunch was total failure that cost about $55.

very disappointed. just went today for the third time. my two previous experiences were outstanding, so i was excited to introduce new friends to it. we arrived at 11:30 a.m. on a saturday to a 75% empty restaurant and were told that the earliest we could be seated was 12:15. no problem, we left our name and went window shopping in the area. we returned at 12:15 and were promptly seated, however we were then ignored for the next 30 minutes. a few waiters passed by and made eye contact, but not even as much as a hello or we'll be with you shortly. as we walked out, i again made eye contact with a waitress who had passed by our table several times. nothing. so, we went to dickie brennan's tableau and were very warmly greeted by attentive friendly staff. had agreatmeal with an amazing view from the balcony. skip this place and walk a few doors down, you'll thank yourself for doing so.

heardgreatthings but i was unimpressed. if i wanted hot sauce or whatever they doused my very expensive sweet breads with, i would have asked for it or would have at least preferred that it be even remotely mentioned on the menu. i don't mind spending my money on a good dining experience nor do i mind waiting a long time for that to occur.....but it better be worth it. this was not one of those times where the latter came to fruition.

dined there 9/15/2012 - terrible. i joined two friends for lunch on the patio...where we had reservations. instead of placing us on the patio...we were placed right next to the kitchen outside. lovely view of dirty, stacked up dishes. i don't know where to begin with how unpleasant our experience was. we waited so long for our cocktails that we had to go inside and ask the bartender for them. then the waitress, oh the waitress. by her attitude, one would assume that her favorite pet had died that day. she never once asked "how is everything?" or "can i get you anything else?"...you know, the standard things a waiter would/should ask a table. service with a smile was unheard of in this girls world. the food took way too long, was over priced and under seasoned. the only good thing that i ingested was my cocktail. the only reason we gave a tip was so that the bartender would get his percentage of the waitress tipout. coming from someone who has over 8 years experience in the service industry and who now eats out 5 to 6 times a week, take it from me, your time and money would be much better spent elsewhere. with soooo many other options ofgreatplaces to eat in new orleans do not waste your time.

delicious ****but noisy. had dinner there sat.11-12-11. the food and service is great, the place is cute and has an interesting menu. heirloom tomato salad with spicy sprouts was sublime. decent prices because the quality of the food is so high. wonderful tuna entree and husband's entree of beef cheeks were melting in the mouth.greatservice, friendly and efficient.
major problem: so noisy you may feel assaulted. i know that noisy restaurants are the hip thing but if you can't talk to your dinner partners it detracts from the meal...
