went for a light dinner yesterday after the oyster fest. food was delicious but wait time was terrible. we ordered 3 salads n we waited over 35 minutes for the salads. we have been in the past n food has always been great but apparently service is better when ordering hot food

one of the best dining experiences i've ever had. here's a letter i wrote to selena, manager of sylvain, after my experience there:

hi selena,

i came by for dinner on sunday night with some friends of mine. we were lucky enough to get a recommendation from philipe at the kitchen witch down the street. i just wanted to share that the dining experience at sylvain, even for a foodie like myself (i worked on organic farms for several seasons and my wife is a food writer), was out of this world. the tastes, the quality of service, the decor, the feeling of a secret hideaway made it one of the best dining experiences i've ever had. keep up the fantastic work, and i'll be certain to spread the word and visit next (and every time) i'm in the area.

the food here is great. i have no idea what the guy who calls a place like this a "tourist trap" is talking about! it's anything but that. from the delicately balanced dishes like salads, daily soups and seafood, to the rich charcuterie and veal cheeks, the food offers fresh ingredients. there's not a cliche french quarter tourist trap staple anywhere to be found. robust specialty cocktails compliment the gastro pub style fare. and i can't think of anywhere else i've ever been that serves both schlitz and veuve. i've been here with dates and with friends; the combo of soft warm ambiance and laid back staff make it a great place to head with any company. the chocolate pot du creme is terrific with red wine.

place is great. quaint. food is wonderful. we tried all of the apps to our delight. all entres great as well: crispy duck confit with lima beans etc. blew my socks off!

great place. great food and not over priced for the quality and quanity you receive, nice wine list also. more local business then tourist and it;s not near bourbon street. friendly staff and they have a great patio worth a visit.

tourist trap. what's to say other than that this is yet another overpriced tourist trap addition to the french quarter. the food was extremely overpriced. the space was cramped and the overall experience was poor. your best bet for a quality new orleans dining experience (food and ambiance) is still outside of the french quarter as these tourist traps continue to pop up with inflated prices and deflated experiences.

very good but expensive!. first off, let me just say that we sat in the area in between the courtyard and the actual restaurant, which was actually extremely awkward. the chairs they have there do not feel sturdy and neither the table nor the chairs seemed clean to me. further, the location of the tables is placed right against the fence where the concrete seems to slant, making you feel like you're going to fall.

other than that, the cocktails they had were delicious. we had a champagne cocktail and a fuzzy nudge and both were delicious. i would pass on the eggplant appetizer...nothing to write home about. however, the roasted beet bruschetta was really delicious. i had the porchetta poboy for lunch and the broccoli raab suprrisingly worked really well with the sandwich. the chocolate pot de creme is also good.

beautiful renovation!!! i have been watching the progress and they have gone above and beyond wonderful wine list plus great food the daily fish was spot on

this spot way exceeded all expectations of casual quarter dining. a gem of a courtyard tucked away on chartres right off jackson square. friendly, helpful staff & fantastic bartenders. a must do.
