a haven for portuguese tart lovers. the tart shell is wonderfully flaky crisp even when it is served cold. the gooeycustardfilling is light without the cloying feeling. 😍

aside from the traditional pastéis de nata, they also come in chocolate, salted caramel, almond, blueberry and raspberry flavour. there are also croissants, cakes, donuts and portuguese lamingtons etc which you can stop in and enjoy a coffee with. ☺️

seemed comparatively lightweight. thecustardtart was bland except for the burnt pastry and loads of cinnamon, as was the nutty mousse thing, and the coffee was very weak, not much more than hot milk.

the legendary portuguese tarts are all sold out on this sugar hit visit but enjoyed my strong flavoured cappuccino ($3.50) using seven miles 'firenze' coffee, custarddoughnut ($4.50) and salted caramel tart ($6). seating can be crowded and noisy when busy and there's plenty of temptations but best to arrive early for the full selection including those tarts. service seemed younger and friendlier than a recall from my last visit a few years ago. parking in the area can be a challenge especially on weekends.

cake for breakfast should totally be a thing! they had so much to choose from and they are all well-presented, cant begin to choose!

we got the coconut custard, white choc mousse andcustarddonut to share. the coconutcustardis very decadent, and the white choc mousse was well-balanced and not super sweet.
thecustarddonut is delicious, but some might find it too sweet.

coffee is good, and overall experience is good. would love to come back and try everything else!!

this time we picked up the flourless orange cake and the mille feuille. i wasn't a big fan of the heavy cake which was soaked in syrup. it was a very moist, almost wet. in contrast, the mille feuille was delightful with vanillacustardsandwiched between layers of flaky, crisp pastry.
---previous visit---
decided to drop by the legendary sweet belem as we were in the neighbourhood. the pastry counter looked very enticing but as we'd just finished brunch, we settled for an egg tart each. compared to other portuguese egg tarts, the thick layer ofcustardwas quite firm and not as sweet which i liked. the crust was also not overly flaky so much neater to eat. my friend's tart was slightly warm out of the oven and that was nicer than the room temperature version i had. the staff were brisk and efficient.

have had a variety of cakes from here and all were well executed but you really come here for the portuguese tarts.

the crisp flakey pastry cupping the unctuouscustardwith a caramelised top? best in sydney.

hands down the bestcustardtart i’ve ever had. dense, rich but still fresh at the same time.

the pastry was crispy and crusty and delicious and maybe ever a little bit salty but maybe i was just imagining something. the filling was creamy and perfect amount of sweet with a hint of tang.

the creme caramel was also fantastic.

the coffee wasn’t great... a little watery and too hot milk tasted slightly burnt.

they called thecustardtarts at sweet belem the most authentic ones but i begged to differ. the tarts were nowhere as authentic or tasty as those which i had tried in belem, lisbon or porto. too sweet and the authentic ones would not have cinnamon powder sprinkled over them.

planning to visit again asap. i really enjoyed the portuguesecustardtarts - eggs, crispy pastry, and amazing. i also loved the dulche de leche doughnut and chocolate tart. shared three cakes and a drink between two and rolled out the door.

i have had their portuguese tarts before but today's batch wasn't as good as i remembered. while it had a good flake on the outside thecustarditself wasn't as rich (which i prefer), the colour of thecustardwas more pale as well.

still i personally don't know where you can get good portuguese tarts.

the bakery has a wide range of options (pastries, tarts, cakes, cookies, bread). it was no doubt a huge challenge for someone who has decision making disorder. i am so glad i brought my partner in crime with me :p
what did we order?
1. the infamous portuguese tart ( omg! that was amazing!! it was a sweet portuguesecustardmade of yolk and sugar. love it !! )
2.  capuccino tiramisu
3. lime and coconut mousse with coconut cake, coconut crumbs and meringue  (this was divine !! must try!)
