burnt brunch. sad to say that our sunday morning trip tosuwuwas a disappointment.

all of our potato patties were burnt (the bottom hard and blackened) and our eggs in a basket (the grand slam was on the menu but no longer offered) were missing the major toppings: mushrooms and bacon. when we asked for our missing ingredients, we were given sauteed onions (already in the basket) and very lightly cooked bacon strips to add to the very soggy bread "chunks" mush.

like many others before us, we also noticed a lack in service by our waitress, but not the water boy: our glasses and cups were always filled. i had to get up to finally get the salt and pepper. this place might be better suited for the snack crowd looking for an easy mac and cheese option.

cozy spot on saint-laurent. the staff are friendly and the ambiance is nice. the food is regular comfort food nothing very special. the drinks though are very good... first spot in montreal that serves an authentic gin basil cocktail! i would recommendsuwufor friends’ gatherings

i've been tosuwudozens of times but just tried their brunch today. the atmosphere is awesome as always and the staff is very friendly. some brunch menu options include smoothie bowls, avocado toast with eggs, french toast with butterscotch, classic eggs and bacon etc. i had the chicken and waffles which was really yummy. the chicken was a bit salty but with the sweetness of the waffle and maple syrup it had a great balance of flavours. i would recommendsuwufor everything from brunch to dinner to partying.

unique food suitable for a night out with friends assuwuis also an excellent little bar. the salads were quite delicious with a good lemon based dressing. i had the macaroni and cheese grilled sandwich because...why not?! to my surprise it was quite tasty, and the sauce added an extra kick to it. a different type of place to grab a bite to eat, i recommend it.

if you are looking for a nice restaurant-bar in montreal to hang out with friends, suwuis the place to go. amazing drinks, delicious food and a cozy atmosphere… what can we ask for more? i absolutely fell in love with the decor. with its wood panels, dimmed hanging lights, ivy trellises, booths, high tables and vintage furniture, suwuprojects vibes commonly seen in brooklyn bars; very chic, simple and romantic. the ambiance is very laid-back on week days or upbeat on the weekend with the hip hop jams playing in the background. the menu is amazing. it is simply delicious and full of surprises with its refined twists on culinary classics. my friends and i had the grilled cheese mac & cheese (a nice crunchy crust and a soft and tasty mac & cheese in the middle), the salmon tartare, their home-made pogos, the cheeseburger empenadas and the veal meatballs tacos. i highly suggest you to try these out. as for the drinks, you will find a very interesting, original and hilarious named-cocktails such as the big booty hoe, the thug passion and the wu-tang. these are the all-time suwu’s favourites. the service is also really nice; our server was accommodating, always smiling and quick which can be rare in this area of montreal. needless to say, suwudefinitively is worth all the hype it has. this restaurant-bar is a very original and trendy without being too unpretentious and where everyone will feel at ease. i highly recommend you to try this place out as i am sure you will enjoy and fill up your stomach as much as i did! all the pictures were taken on various social media platforms under thesuwutag.

dope as f****. i dont write these often, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. showed up for burger week with friends, and their burger was most definitely solid: not too fancy, perfectly juicy, and the spiral fries give it that nostalgic feel. our server was very cool and accommodating, so shout out to good service in mtl (finally). i had the mac and cheese, which at $5 was a crazy steal: nice crunchy crust on top and a mellow cheesy flavour with real chunky mac in the skillet underneath.
i gotta give a big shoutout to the potato salad, surprisingly. while not as bacony as advertised, the medley of herbs inside left me baffled, with what we later determined must have been a hint of dill in the dense bouquet of herbs. ive never spent so much time debating a potato salad, so i give crazy kudos for making a usually unremarkable side dish such an enigma.
i would recommendsuwuto anyone any day for sure. props, guys.

i had the salmon tartare brunch, which consists of tartare, bagel, poached eggs, hollandaise, these weird pink pickled onion slices and a hash brown.  it was very very good.  i've been vocal about my annoyance at the constant appearance on menus of the 4 things montrealers are crazy about (tartare, lobster, foie gras and oysters) but on this occasion i relented and ordered a tartare as the waitress recommended it.  have to say the bloody caesar was virtually undrinkable, very heavy on the tabasco and i literally had a coughing fit after each sip.  i struggled, got most of it down, i'm not a wimp where these things are concerned either. anyway, i lovedsuwu.  had a hunch that i would.  pretty much e

4/5 for suwu.suwuhas been the talk of the town for a while now, especially after being voted #10 best new restaurant 2014 by cult mtl. this plateau drinking establishment boasts a decidedly "gangsta" attitude (sort of), which is funny, but also something that can't exactly be taken seriously. they offer an incredibly good cinq à sept - a very important aspect of the city's culture. simply put, a 5-à-7 is happy hour à la montréal. during these hourssuwuoffers a completely half price drink menu, which means that kicking your evening off right is easy.
i arrived right at cinq and briefly entered the restaurant. i quickly took in all of the beautiful wood finishes, noted that the people who i was meeting had not arrived yet, and went back out to the terrace. (in montreal, a patio is called a "terrace." if you refer to it as a "patio" you'll expose yourself as not from around these parts.) the terrace was lovely for a warm summer evening with whimsical string lights draped about, an outdoor bar, and even some couch-type seating. i sat at a round table and waited for the rest of my party to arrive. no better way to occupy my time than to peruse the cocktail list! this resulted in me ordering a thug passion (hendrick's, raspberry vodka, midori, watermelon, lime, cucumber - $12.00 regularly, $6.00 for 5-à-7) after asking the super friendly server which drinks were the most fruity. (i'm a girl, what do you want?) i loved how juicy with watermelon this drink was. it tasted totally boozy, but also very summery and refreshing because cucumber and watermelon can do no other.
i also decided that a snack was in order until we got to the portion of the night that involved "real eating" and ordered up the popcorn (bbq - $5.00). i love that so many restaurants are putting fun and creative popcorn offerings on their menus these days! the portion size was huge at this place, making the dish perfect for sharing and ideal for mid-booze munches. the bbq flavour packed a powerful and spicy punch! there was nothing shy about the seasoning, but it wasn't only painful heat because it tasted spicily delicious.
by this point, i was ready for drink #2, which also means that my recollection of everything that followed might be slightly hazy. time for a big booty ho (cachaca, cointreau, abricot brandy, banana, orange, pineapple - $12.00 regularly, $6.00 for 5-à-7), ordered mainly for its name alone. alright, not only for the name, for the fruitiness as well. i didn't notice the flavour of alcohol as much in this one (for obvious reasons) but i did notice the tropical fruit salad that seemed to be taking place in my glass. and i liked that.

it was now time to start getting some real food into my system and there were plenty of enticing options. i had seen a past menu online that showed a lobster roll as a choice, but no such luck on this visit. my group decided to begin by sharing the homemade pogos (maple mustard - $10.00). this wood block came with five pogos protruding from it and there were four of us, so it was almost an even split between everyone. these were delicious! i loved that it was just a small taste of the classic deep fried breaded dog on a stick. the maple mustard was more interesting than the usual plain mustard or ketchup and you could see that they were taking familiar foods and elevating them to something with a little bit more panache.

i watched the beer battered fish tacos (market fresh atlantic cod, cilantro sour cream, pickled veggies - $14.00) go by and get delivered to other tables and they looked really good, so i got me some of those! the fish was battered just the way that i like it, to a golden perfection. the tender white fish remained juicy, encased inside. i really loved how the pickled vegetables added a whole different flavour dimension that you wouldn't normally expect in a taco. while this was really good, i couldn't help agree with my co-diners that something seemed to be missing. something to bring these tacos over the edge.

well, the best was saved to last. i had been seeing pictures of the grilled cheese mac 'n' cheese (homemade ketchup - $8.00) posted all over the place, and this was the main dish that i had come excited to try. this type of sandwich had already found a safe place in my heart after i had spent a fair amount of time eating and loving molly's eats gourmet food truck's mac melt (mac & cheese with bacon and slow roasted pork stuffed in a grilled cheese sandwich) back in edmonton. so i was pleasantly surprised (and a little bit sad) when this one was even better. no meat in this version, just ooey, gooey, perfect mac 'n cheese, oozing out of everywhere. i loved that there was some serious cheddar business going on and that it had a job to do. a serious job. the ketchup that came with the sandwich was also excellent and so much better than the bottled kind. i'm not sure that combining two different comfort foods into one epic dish has ever worked out so well. i will return again and again for this magic between bread.

the food was so much fun at suwu. so were the cheap drinks. i want their lobster roll to come back, and i also want to try their sweet chili calamari. someone should suggest that they try putting some pulled pork into their grilled cheese mac 'n' cheese. (okay, me.) apparently they even do breakfast! i'll be back suwu, i'll be back.

surprisingly, this is my first brunch post! so i am very excited to share. for my birthday this year, i thought it would be a refreshing change to go for a boozy brunch with friends, instead of the usual dinner or drinks. so...i searched for some good options in the city and discovered something exciting .suwuoffers a fixed price for "bottomless brunch"- all you can drink ($35). the menu is small, but still has tons of tempt

fails to meet the hype. i've been tosuwua total of three times and each time i leave more disappointed than the last. the food is really mediocre, the drinks are alright (i've enjoyed their cheap, tap beer) but the service is seriously is downright awful.
the first time i went to suwu, i cannot complain about the service as much as the next two times. my friends and i had gone on a tuesday night so it wasn't too busy, our waiter was nice suggested us a couple of plates since it was our first time--we went with the lobster rolls, fried chicken and biscuits, beef and salmon tartar. i was excited for the lobster rolls, only to be disappointed with how warm the entire plate was and lacked any freshness let alone flavour.
the second time i went to suwu, we were a much larger group of people and the waiter seemed very uneasy how to split bills and said we could not each separately have our own bill which was bizarre. even after suggesting we all pay our meals separately and just pay for the drinks we order immediately after he seemed very unsure of whether or not that was possible or not. i had the mac and cheese grilled cheese that night with the cookie dessert---this was maybe the only time i was impressed with the food, the grilled cheese was ok but the cookie was amazing.
the last time i went tosuwuwas during poutine week and i have never been so disappointed with a dish, drink and service as i was that time. we had reservations and were placed at the bar. when i asked the waiter why we didn't have a table he proceeded to rudely answer that a reservation is just a spot in the resto and not a table---right...anyways we ended up getting a table but we're told we had to make it quick and not stay past 7, and believe me after this start of the night my friends and i were not planning to stay past 7.
we were four girls and one of them was ten minutes late, he only handed us our menus but never brought one for our friend even as he came to take our orders and saw us passing her a menu back and forth. the poutine to say the least was super disappointing despite how delicious it sounded, there were no stand out flavours and it was cold. we had to ask for water, only to have it filled up twice. our drinks took super long to come and lacked any alcohol, probably due to it's cheaper 5@7 prices. and when it came time to pay the bill the waiter was super disorganized and almost left us to not pay for one meal as he mixed us up with another table.

overall the hype forsuwuis definitely just a hype. this resto has so much potential considering everything on the menu looks delicious and the prices are decent for what you get, it's unfortunate that there's a certain something that's holding back it's kick. the service however...i am not impressed at all. everyone who works there "fits" the laid back, hipster image but none of them know how to properly serve a table. most of them are rude and really give off the "i don't really care this is just a job" kind of vibe. there's nothing wrong with a hip, hyped place however...suwu definitely does not live up to it's full potential.
