food is great. rest not so much.. first of all the first impression was bad. the hostess didn't speak a word of french which deeply offended our very bilingual party. the food was amazing, so that's good. so were the drinks. theservicewas just ok, we only got appropriate silverware after having to ask twice and we never had any water refills. music was good but waaaayyyy too loud. last negative point is the table layout, our chairs were literally back to back with those of the table behind us which led to a lot of friction every time someone moved. all in all food is what's more important in a restaurant so this is a positive review, but there's definitely room for improvement.

burnt brunch. sad to say that our sunday morning trip to suwu was a disappointment.

all of our potato patties were burnt (the bottom hard and blackened) and our eggs in a basket (the grand slam was on the menu but no longer offered) were missing the major toppings: mushrooms and bacon. when we asked for our missing ingredients, we were given sauteed onions (already in the basket) and very lightly cooked bacon strips to add to the very soggy bread "chunks" mush.

like many others before us, we also noticed a lack inserviceby our waitress, but not the water boy: our glasses and cups were always filled. i had to get up to finally get the salt and pepper. this place might be better suited for the snack crowd looking for an easy mac and cheese option.

the decor of this place is really hipsters and very relax. there are plants everywhere close to the windows and makes you feel homie. theserviceis very friendly and the staff is also very helpful. the bar food menu is good but a little pricey for what they are serving. i am rating the place as a restaurant perspective. i have also been to this place at night on the weekend and i the vibe was very good. the beer and cocktails menu are very reasonable.

the abominable grilled mac'n'cheese. so, i've really enjoyed the first few times to the "neighborhood bar," but i was so appalled with theservicerecently.

the person serving us was curt, rude, and dismissive (which is not acceptable for being in theserviceindustry). when ordering the grilled mac'n'cheese (i have ordered this on a number of occasions), i had expected to be served with the homemade tomato sauce. but got served with heinz ketchup with added spices (ewww...i would leave it to my roommate to make my grilled cheese for free).

when proceeding to ask the waitress what had happened, she dismissed me and curtly said that the ketchup was made in house and that there was a new chef. end of story. might she had thought to mention this while i was ordering it would have saved me an awful meal and bitter after taste. what happened to good old friendly service? this place is no longer my go-to place.

advice: so if you order here, make sure to ask a 101 questions before ordering. don't let the waiters/waitress intimidate you to rushing your order. take your time.

if you are looking for a nice restaurant-bar in montreal to hang out with friends, suwu is the place to go. amazing drinks, delicious food and a cozy atmosphere… what can we ask for more? i absolutely fell in love with the decor. with its wood panels, dimmed hanging lights, ivy trellises, booths, high tables and vintage furniture, suwu projects vibes commonly seen in brooklyn bars; very chic, simple and romantic. the ambiance is very laid-back on week days or upbeat on the weekend with the hip hop jams playing in the background. the menu is amazing. it is simply delicious and full of surprises with its refined twists on culinary classics. my friends and i had the grilled cheese mac & cheese (a nice crunchy crust and a soft and tasty mac & cheese in the middle), the salmon tartare, their home-made pogos, the cheeseburger empenadas and the veal meatballs tacos. i highly suggest you to try these out. as for the drinks, you will find a very interesting, original and hilarious named-cocktails such as the big booty hoe, the thug passion and the wu-tang. these are the all-time suwu’s favourites. theserviceis also really nice; our server was accommodating, always smiling and quick which can be rare in this area of montreal. needless to say, suwu definitively is worth all the hype it has. this restaurant-bar is a very original and trendy without being too unpretentious and where everyone will feel at ease. i highly recommend you to try this place out as i am sure you will enjoy and fill up your stomach as much as i did! all the pictures were taken on various social media platforms under the suwu tag.

dope as f****. i dont write these often, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. showed up for burger week with friends, and their burger was most definitely solid: not too fancy, perfectly juicy, and the spiral fries give it that nostalgic feel. our server was very cool and accommodating, so shout out to goodservicein mtl (finally). i had the mac and cheese, which at $5 was a crazy steal: nice crunchy crust on top and a mellow cheesy flavour with real chunky mac in the skillet underneath.
i gotta give a big shoutout to the potato salad, surprisingly. while not as bacony as advertised, the medley of herbs inside left me baffled, with what we later determined must have been a hint of dill in the dense bouquet of herbs. ive never spent so much time debating a potato salad, so i give crazy kudos for making a usually unremarkable side dish such an enigma.
i would recommend suwu to anyone any day for sure. props, guys.

yummy. for montreal’s poutine week they featured an amazing poutine “pootie tang”: rosemary fries, deep-fried cheese curds, bacon, maple & sortilège which was to die for. as were their ribs but most importantly their mac-n-cheese grilled cheese. drinks not that phenomenal but the food was great. they also had deep fried pumpkin pie that i didn’t have time to try because they were kicking us out for the next group. theservicewasn't great at all.

by far my favourite place to eat when i visit montreal! the new menu is absolutely fantastic. the charcuterie platter is delicious and perfect for sharing. the deer tar tar is outstanding and the weekly specials are always tasty. goodserviceand great music make for an awesome vibe... an added bonus... the owner zach, who's often there, is a mega babe. definitely a must visit spot.

fails to meet the hype. i've been to suwu a total of three times and each time i leave more disappointed than the last. the food is really mediocre, the drinks are alright (i've enjoyed their cheap, tap beer) but theserviceis seriously is downright awful.
the first time i went to suwu, i cannot complain about theserviceas much as the next two times. my friends and i had gone on a tuesday night so it wasn't too busy, our waiter was nice suggested us a couple of plates since it was our first time--we went with the lobster rolls, fried chicken and biscuits, beef and salmon tartar. i was excited for the lobster rolls, only to be disappointed with how warm the entire plate was and lacked any freshness let alone flavour.
the second time i went to suwu, we were a much larger group of people and the waiter seemed very uneasy how to split bills and said we could not each separately have our own bill which was bizarre. even after suggesting we all pay our meals separately and just pay for the drinks we order immediately after he seemed very unsure of whether or not that was possible or not. i had the mac and cheese grilled cheese that night with the cookie dessert---this was maybe the only time i was impressed with the food, the grilled cheese was ok but the cookie was amazing.
the last time i went to suwu was during poutine week and i have never been so disappointed with a dish, drink andserviceas i was that time. we had reservations and were placed at the bar. when i asked the waiter why we didn't have a table he proceeded to rudely answer that a reservation is just a spot in the resto and not a table---right...anyways we ended up getting a table but we're told we had to make it quick and not stay past 7, and believe me after this start of the night my friends and i were not planning to stay past 7.
we were four girls and one of them was ten minutes late, he only handed us our menus but never brought one for our friend even as he came to take our orders and saw us passing her a menu back and forth. the poutine to say the least was super disappointing despite how delicious it sounded, there were no stand out flavours and it was cold. we had to ask for water, only to have it filled up twice. our drinks took super long to come and lacked any alcohol, probably due to it's cheaper 5@7 prices. and when it came time to pay the bill the waiter was super disorganized and almost left us to not pay for one meal as he mixed us up with another table.

overall the hype for suwu is definitely just a hype. this resto has so much potential considering everything on the menu looks delicious and the prices are decent for what you get, it's unfortunate that there's a certain something that's holding back it's kick. theservicehowever...i am not impressed at all. everyone who works there "fits" the laid back, hipster image but none of them know how to properly serve a table. most of them are rude and really give off the "i don't really care this is just a job" kind of vibe. there's nothing wrong with a hip, hyped place however...suwu definitely does not live up to it's full potential.

suwuuu. we came in a group of 7, called an hour ahead to reserve on a friday night and surprisingly they gave us a table!

we pretty much ordered everything on the menu. tuna, salmon tartare, lobster roll, poutine, grill cheese macaroni, monte cristo, bbq ribs, cheese steak sandwich and were really impressed with everything. the dishes that really caught our attention were the lobster roll and the ribs, both were fantastic!

the waiter recommended the chocolate chip cookie and at first we were wondering how good a chocolate chip cookie is. but let me tell you, its a must get!! its freshly baked on the spot when you order it, filled with ice cream, warmed peanuts and dusted with sugar. it was a perfect end to a wonder dinner.

would definitely come back,servicewas splendid!
