phuong tran and i visit kotobuki on a friend’s recommendation. we seat ourselves then place our lunch order at the counter. there is no table service so we help ourselves to water, extra plates and serviettes.

*mix sashimi ($13.50) is 4 pieces each of salmon and tuna. the salmon is fresh while the tuna is quite average. rating: 3

*spiderroll($14) has soft shell crab, crab extender (surimi), cucumber and tobiko. freshly made with a generous serving, this tastyrollis our favourite dish. rating: 4

*salmon lion king ($12) has salmon, avocado and cucumber, topped with nicely seared aburi salmon. rating: 3.5

*prawn tempura ($10) is served with 3 prawns and 3 vegetables. the tempura prawns are quite tasteless but the tempura vegetables are good. rating: 3

prices here are surprisingly cheap which makes kotobuki popular with the regulars. two dishes are good while our other two dishes are quite average. our overall rating for this meal is 3.5!

the rolls are huge and first time visiting we definitely over ordered. the bowls have a large amount of rice and the rolls seem to be the go. 1rolland a smaller plate is more than enough

this is the place to go to if you ever have sushi cravings in brisbane. really good sushi at really affordable prices. in the picture, the caterpillarroll($9) and the spiderroll($14) and both use top quality ingredients. we've also ordered some of the rice bowls to consume (not in picture) and with the regular size at only $8, it is really value for money. will definitely be back to try their other dishes as they have too many to try for one trip, or maybe even two.

last night we tried this busy, bustling sushi joint tucked away in a quiet corner off lytton rd.
we ordered the salmon avocado uramaki, and from the fusion menu, the lion roll, the spiderrolland the double shrimp roll.
all dishes were fresh and well made. very good sushi, and despite it being a busy night (even on a wednesday night there was a line up at the door throughout the evening) they remembered our request for reduced mayo for our sushi rolls.
quite enjoyable and recommended if you're in the area and looking for a sushi fix.

sushi kotobuki is very popular, serves up some very nice sushi and represents an excellent value for money ($40 for three of us).

the unagi (eel) was really good and the tomago was satisfactory.

they also serve some really unique sushi like the kotobukiroll(the first time i've ever burnt my mouth on sushi...beware of the molten cream cheese!).

the chicken katsu was dry and the chicken crunch was bland.

i've been here a couple times, most recently on an early sunday evening. interesting to note that at 6pm a line developed out the door and an hour later people were still stacked up despite them moving people through at a steady pace. arrive early or plan to wait in line.

had lunch here today and ordered 4 dishes: spider roll, crunch chicken, double shrimprolland karaage don. the sushi dishes were delicious and fresh however, we were a bit disappointed with the karaage don. we felt that there was too much rice and not much chicken in the karaage don. i think we will just stick with the fusion sushi from now on. this is a great place for cheap, good value for money fusion japanese food. but if you're looking for something more traditional, i'd suggest you go elsewhere.

fast, fresh and delicious, only problem is it is too popular. kotobukirollis amazing but leaves you with a sense of regret after finishing the whole thing, i recommend sharing it. all their noodles are fat and delicious also. would definitely recommend.

i got a bento box with yakitori and i thought it was great! we also had the eel sushi and that was delicious, large serving. the price is only okay, i think i can get better sushi at other places in brisbane for that price. the lines are way too long at night time but overall it's a good lunch spot for a quick fix.

edit: recently have returned for the lion kind and eel sushirolland was thoroughly impressed with the delicious high quality sushi! the service was fast and food arrived in no time! place loses points for no table service
