sushi kotobuki

consistently impressive!. the food at sushikotobukiat east brisbane is always good! everything is freshly made to order by friendly staff and the prices are exceedingly good value. highly recommended!

the best sushi i've ever had anywhere.... as the title of my review suggests, sushikotobukiis the best sushi restaurant i've ever had the pleasure of dining at. i would even go as far as saying it's my favourite restaurant in brisbane overall.

for what you get, the prices are great. i usually spend around $50 for 2 people, and leave with the beginnings of a food coma.

the atmosphere is completely unpretentious - it's nestled in a little set of takeaway food shops just near the shaftson hotel - but it's always busy (though usually not annoyingly so), and for good reason.

my recommendation to newcomers is to try each of the following dishes:

takoyaki
ruby roll
kotobuki roll

it's all about taste. the taste of the food here is just delicious. we never get tired of crossing the city to have akotobukinoodle or a lion king sushi... just writing these words make me wonder if we're addicted to it! seriously, best japanase food we ever had in brisbane + excellent price. it's a busy and crowded place, so service might let down a bit sometimes, but nothing to compromise the experience.

went on a quiet monday afternoon. street parking in the area is not great.

ordered the salmon lion king, hotate (scallop) aburi, avocado maki, gyoza and chicken katsudon.

the sushi dishes were so delicious (as expected). gyoza was 4/5.

the chicken katsudon was 2.5/5. the chicken was completely soggy. i would not have been surprised if it was cooked beforehand (with the egg already on top) and just microwaved. i’ve had japanese where the chicken was fried beforehand and kept in a heater. the chicken on those occasions were dry, tough and not crispy. but at least it wasn’t soggy! the pieces of onion were quite large so i didn’t want to bite into them, just left them in the bowl. the sauce was not flavourful enough to save the bland egg and soggy chicken.

the table next to us had ordered curry which smelt amazing. i would have ordered that had it not been a stinking hot day!

sushikotobukiis on the other side of town from where i live. i probably wouldn’t go out of my way to return but definitely would drop in for sushi if in the area.

phuong tran and i visitkotobukion a friend’s recommendation. we seat ourselves then place our lunch order at the counter. there is no table service so we help ourselves to water, extra plates and serviettes.

*mix sashimi ($13.50) is 4 pieces each of salmon and tuna. the salmon is fresh while the tuna is quite average. rating: 3

*spider roll ($14) has soft shell crab, crab extender (surimi), cucumber and tobiko. freshly made with a generous serving, this tasty roll is our favourite dish. rating: 4

*salmon lion king ($12) has salmon, avocado and cucumber, topped with nicely seared aburi salmon. rating: 3.5

*prawn tempura ($10) is served with 3 prawns and 3 vegetables. the tempura prawns are quite tasteless but the tempura vegetables are good. rating: 3

prices here are surprisingly cheap which makeskotobukipopular with the regulars. two dishes are good while our other two dishes are quite average. our overall rating for this meal is 3.5!

so good we go back at least once a month - the sushi is excellent but the star of the hot food show has to be the udon noodle soup. i've never had one that's better than the one atkotobuki- so much umami!

continuously keeps being the best and most tasty sushi in brisbane! salmon sashimi especially, their signature rolls - especiallykotobukiroll, great edamame too!!

first time coming here for dinner and i loved it!

the service was excellent - the staff were just lovely and very helpful. as for the food it was fast, fresh and very flavoursome. some notable mentions were the crunch chicken and salmon sashimi. my all time favourite dish would have to be the dragon role.

the restaurant itself is not overly fancy, so if you're after a fine dining experience this is not the place for you. however, the establishment is clean, the service is great and the is food delicious. considering how affordable all the dishes, the sushikotobukiis a great find!

i've been a customer ofkotobukifor many, many years. there's a few reasons this restaurant deserves 5 stars. firstly, something underrated with restaurants - consistency. i've been getting some of the same dishes for over 6 years (cream cheese chicken & lion king) and they are always prepared to a similar standard with high quality, fresh ingredients.

the staff are always polite and attentive. the sushi and other meals are exceptional. the ingredients are always fresh. the only let down can be that the restaurant is so popular it gets very busy! but that's not koto's fault, they're just too damn good.

sushikotobukiis very popular, serves up some very nice sushi and represents an excellent value for money ($40 for three of us).

the unagi (eel) was really good and the tomago was satisfactory.

they also serve some really unique sushi like thekotobukiroll (the first time i've ever burnt my mouth on sushi...beware of the molten cream cheese!).

the chicken katsu was dry and the chicken crunch was bland.

i've been here a couple times, most recently on an early sunday evening. interesting to note that at 6pm a line developed out the door and an hour later people were still stacked up despite them moving people through at a steady pace. arrive early or plan to wait in line.

one of the best sushi places in brisbane for sure. i recommend thekotobukiroll, my absolute favourite from there. the prices are quite affordable for how much you get and the quality of the food also. service is prompt and polite while the food comes out in a reasonable time frame. they are good for dine-in and take away. very much recommend!

fast, fresh and delicious, only problem is it is too popular.kotobukiroll is amazing but leaves you with a sense of regret after finishing the whole thing, i recommend sharing it. all their noodles are fat and delicious also. would definitely recommend.

sushikotobukiwithout a doubt is one of the best, if not the best sushi place in brisbane. their array of sushi caters to everyones tastes. never have i had a disappointing meal and have been visiting for 6+ years. sushi train cannot compare!

best sushi in brisbane. i have been coming tokotobukifor years and have never been disappointed. the atmosphere and decor is fairly basic, but the food is amazing. the ruby roll and crunch chicken in particular!

quality sushi and service. when i lived in east brisbane,kotobukiwas my saturday lunch ritual. now i live in on the gold coast i still make special trips up to brisbane to eat at this sushi. great variety of sushi (and other styles) and quality ingredients. from traditional sushi to fusion sushi rolls (huge flavours!!) this place is fantastic. i had a friend whom had been living in japan for 3 years compare this sushi to the quality achieved in japan. service is fast and polite with all food being made/rolled to order. i cannot recommend this store enough.
