expensive but a beautiful experience. we dropped in to stillwater not long after landing inlauncestonfor a 5 day break and what a great way to start a break. the food & service are top notch with ambience and price to match a classy casual upmarket restaurant. i would recommend it to anyone who is comfortable with the price.

first time visitinglauncestoni did some research on some recommended brunch places. i'm really not surprised this place is at the top of the search results.
my eggs benedict arrived 5-10 mins right after ordering it along with my coffee. was interesting having a mild taste of vinegar in this dish, not something i've tried before but the combination really worked.
staff were super friendly and even took the time to recommend some places to sight see.
the venue has it's own drive in with plenty of parking. would definitely visit this place again the next time i'm down in tassi.

stillwater, a contemporary tasmanian cuisine – titled one hat from the good food guide 2018. during our stay inlauncestonwe had the opportunity to try lunch and dinner at stillwater. lunch was good (4/5) but dinner topped it (5/5)! if it wasn’t because of our driver who recommended still water to us again for dinner, we would have left still water with 4/5 from our lunch experience. read more to see why…

my family and i were inlauncestonduring the christmas break and really wanted to try this place after hearing all the good reviews. we had breakfast here. there wasn't a table for 5 available right away as the restaurant was packed. we had to wait for a bit and then was offered the bar table which we took anyway. the service was friendly and the food was super yummy. we had an enjoyable breakfast there and also had a look at the art gallery upstairs.

simply beautiful food in a gorgeous setting with friendly service and a decent selection of local wines and beer.launcestonhas several high quality restaurants and this is certainly now at the top of my list.
superb fresh ingredients (i had some delightful scallops with shaved asparagus for entree and the best wallaby dish i have ever eaten for main) cooked to perfection with flavours that really sing.
don't miss this place if you are visiting the apple isle…

desperate for breakfast after landing inlauncestonthis was the place top of zomatos list. the staff were lovely and in between setting up for lunch still kept an eye on me and the only other table there. had the omelette which was delicious and eggs cooked perfectly (though i would have liked some toasted bread with it). i choose the wrong dessert though, the chai pannacotta not being to my flavour. would definitely eat breakfast there again.

i've been tolauncestontwice, and i've been to stillwater twice. the first time i wanted somewhere nice to eat, the second time i knew i wouldn't be disappointed and would get a great meal.
the ambience, the location and the food are all sublime. i couldn't recommend going here highly enough.
attached to the restaurant is a wine cellar, provadore, and an art gallery. definitely take the time to see every level.

our tasmanian travels came full circle in january as we arrived back inlauncestonafter a whirlwind food trek to the (a rather smokey) north, centre and south of the island. this lovely river-city is home to the stillwater restaurant. the restaurant is located inside the historic ritchie’s [flour] mill constructed in the 1830s and on the bank of the tamar river. this day was sunny, warm with a hint of smoke from the tasmania fires started by lightning strikes the week before.  we arrive at the beautifully restored mill and easily find a park. we are greeted by the friendly start and migrate to the centre of the restaurant where we could view the original timber rafters and the river.  it’s a good start.

i had high hopes for this restaurant as i had read some good reviews online, but unfortunately it was a let down..

we arrived for breakfast at around 8:15am, and noticed a sign on the door saying they didn't open until 8:30am.. maybe this is alauncestonthing? but i would think a breakfast venue would be open before 8:30am..
but besides that, the meals were pleasant however severely overpriced for what they were..
the eggs benedict was so small and for $20, was really disappointing.. it tasted nice, but was a typical eggs benedict..
my boyfriend tried the red bowl which was slightly larger but the beans lacked flavour..
the service was good, but probably not enough to make us consider returning..

what an absolutely stunning place! my parents had recently moved to tassie (perth) and i living in sydney came down to visit. we couldn't fault stillwater one bit. apart from the restaurant itself being very appealing the food and service was impeccable. our waiter (i didn't catch his name but maybe the maître de) and in fact all staff were superb. they were incredibly professional & obviously enjoy their careers. the whole experience was something i haven't experienced on the 'mainland' for a long time. well done guys, i look forward to returning on my next visit tolaunceston👍🏻

wonderful coffee and eggs benedict. my girlfriend and i came tolauncestonjust for the weekend, and discovered still water on our first morning.
we were super pleased with the service and eating.
probably the best coffee and eggs benedict we've had, consistent with the two times we visited.
highly recommend.

best restaurant in launceston!! sister restaurant blackcow is 2nd best restaurant inlauncestonin my opinion. we had a wonderful dinner at stillwater. the location is beautiful and romantic, the service was excellent, the food was amazing, and a great wine list too! only down side was we were not given proper pinot glasses to drink the pinot noir we had ordered by the glass-so to drink it was quite closed up. other than that a perfect dinner-and we will definitely be back next time we visit tassie. i was horrified to see this restaurant not listed on urban spoon or black cow it's sister restaurant-if you like good food you must check these restaurants out!!!
