the best restaurant in chattanooga. there is no contest. st. john's is the best restaurant in chattanooga. chef daniel lindley is a two time james beard award finalist. he creates the most amazing dishes using fresh local ingredients and his culinary imagination. i have never had a bad dish here. it is one of the more expensive restaurants in town, but it is not stuffy or pretentious. theserviceis excellent, well paced and knowledgeable. a great wine list by the glass (or bottle), ask for a recommendation, they are always spot on. also try the meeting place next door for more casual and happening nights.

road trip`. wife and i went on a road trip to chattanooga, tn. googled restaurants in the area and saw st . johns. there are two restaurants named st. john's and they are next to each other. one is called st.johns meeting place and the other st. john's . we ended up going to st. john's as it seemed a little more upscale for our anniversary.servicewas superb, food was excellent. server described each course in detail which made it more interesting. we give it 5 stars

wonderful experience.... tried a variety of dishes, including smoked trout appetizer, sea scallop appetizer and foie gras. the smoked trout with toast points was excellent. scallops were good but not great...unevenly cooked. the foie gras was life-changing. entrees chosen were the wagyu beef and duck two ways. both were delicious.servicewas impeccable. can't wait to go back.

top notch. best restaurant in chattanooga...they have competition, but they are the best. the food is interesting without being weird. theserviceis attentive without being overbearing. the atmosphere is upscale without being pretentious. the prices are on the high end for this market, but worth every penny. i've heard it said that this is a "special occasion" kind of place. but really, everyone deserves this kind of food and service...so even if it's not a special occasion, do yourself a favor. save a few extra bucks and plan an evening at st. john's. you will leave a happier person.

disappointed. had begged and begged to be seated upstairs at previous visits. each time, on the phone, the hostess said, "no problem." but when we arrived, we were always seated on the ground floor. finally, at last visit, we obtained our upper level seating! too bad. it was so hot, my husband and i sweated profusely throughout the entire meal, as did our server (an elderly gentleman). wine ordered was barely drinkable-- the bartender had described it as "barn-yard-y." the bottom of my glass contained so much sediment, i did indeed think my wine had come from the farm! odd experience overall. food was good, but not exceptional.servicewas pretentious. we won't be back.

response to brewha. have eaten at st. john's numerous times(even recently with "some girl in the kitchen") and was totally offended by brewha's review. food andserviceis and has always been exceptional. a review coming from a member whos only likes are for bars and a sub-par pizza joint shouldn't be taken seriously.

thank you chattanooga. st. john's truly revived my feelings of finding not only a decent place to eat in the area, but a fantastic place to eat. everying from theserviceto the food, to the wine list far exceeded my expectations. the foie gras was so good i honestly wanted it for dessert, but changed my mind when they had the valentines prix fix dessert on a la carte. start to finish, this is one of the bst meals i have had and who would of thought a chef from charleston would find it in chattanooga on an improptu mini vacation from my vacation. all i can say is thank you martin, our server, and thank you st. john's for dinner on friday the 10th. next time i am back in the area, i will definately come in.

excellent. while it is certainly a pricey place, they truly did all they could to make it worth my money. theserviceis second to none (you really are the most important thing to each employee), and the food is simply amazing. for those who can afford it i recommend you go often, and for those of us who can't you should make this your next special dinner spot.

appetizer and dessert were good. we had really high expectations after reading the reviews. and after relocating from charleston, a culinary mecca in its own right, we've been searching for a match. the restaurant has a very nice clean crisp modern feel. we were greeted warmly andservicewas great. i started with the foie gras and it was excellent. my husband had the squash raviolo which was good but got overwhelming after 3 or 4 bites. from there, things diverge. i had the duck medium rare on top of a sweet potato puree and onion confit. the duck had a very smoky flavor and came out rare making it very chewy and the puree was more like a soup for which i was not given a spoon. it didn't even taste much like sweet potato. it tasted it was watered down. my husband had the ribeye (medium) with truffle butter, wilted spinach and polenta straws. the ribeye came out rare which he sent back. in five minutes, it came back to the table still the same. at this point, he was so hungry, he just ate what he could of it around the edges. the steak was paired with oyster mushrooms which mixed a fishy taste with the earthy truffle butter which did not work. the spinach was good but the polenta straws were greasy and also didn't taste cooked through. we asked for the food to be boxed so we could take it home to cook it to our desire. for dessert, the ice cream trio and chocolate molten cake were tasty. if one meal weren't cooked to order, we might be willing to come back, but both meals were undercooked and the pairings with the sides didn't impress. after reading previews reviews, i'm going to saw this was an "off" night for them and since the appetizers were really good, we'll try it again when we run out of places in the noog to try.

a night out at the meeting place. ate with family at st. john's meeting place last night, one of our several visits. theserviceis always superb as it was last night. good selection of items. our group had the quail, scallops, and pork. quail was beautifully prepared, but the pork was so salty that i couldn't finish my dish (too much pancetta). scallops were well prepared -- not exceptional. the strawberry cobbler for dessert was a disappointment -- not a good consistency -- but the sorbet selection was outstanding and delicious. the cheese souffle appetizer with vegetables was very good as well. overall much better than most chattanooga restaurants.

amazing service. this is undoubtedly the premier dining venue in chattanooga. the waitstaff'sserviceis unrivaled, and the environment is very crisp and formal. the entrees are superb, using locally grown ingredients. the desserts are a bit of a mixed bag. i had a dessert sampler tray, and honestly, i wasn't impressed by anything. i'd recommend going to rembrandt's for dessert.
