the bestrestaurantin chattanooga. there is no contest. st. john's is the bestrestaurantin chattanooga. chef daniel lindley is a two time james beard award finalist. he creates the most amazing dishes using fresh local ingredients and his culinary imagination. i have never had a bad dish here. it is one of the more expensive restaurants in town, but it is not stuffy or pretentious. the service is excellent, well paced and knowledgeable. a great wine list by the glass (or bottle), ask for a recommendation, they are always spot on. also try the meeting place next door for more casual and happening nights.

i had dinner at two restaurants while in town. i'm not a culinary expert but i travel and eat at very nice restaurants 1-3 times a week. when it comes to cuisine and chattanooga, st. john's is a culinary island. excellent. the sea bass was almost as good as i've had at one of the finest japanese restaurants in the world. from start to finish, the service, the bar, the staff (very welcoming and friendly)...not to exclude the food!...was excellent. everything was prepared perfectly. nothing overdone nothing underdone. the wine list is acceptable for a town this size with a few choice options. i never check the price on a menu, so was stunned when a dinner i expected to cost 400 cost me only 250. chattanooga has a gem here. arestaurantfinally rivaling tennessee's culinary neighbor nashville.

wonderful experience.... tried a variety of dishes, including smoked trout appetizer, sea scallop appetizer and foie gras. the smoked trout with toast points was excellent. scallops were good but not great...unevenly cooked. the foie gras was life-changing. entrees chosen were the wagyu beef and duck two ways. both were delicious. service was impeccable. can't wait to go back.

top notch. bestrestaurantin chattanooga...they have competition, but they are the best. the food is interesting without being weird. the service is attentive without being overbearing. the atmosphere is upscale without being pretentious. the prices are on the high end for this market, but worth every penny. i've heard it said that this is a "special occasion" kind of place. but really, everyone deserves this kind of food and service...so even if it's not a special occasion, do yourself a favor. save a few extra bucks and plan an evening at st. john's. you will leave a happier person.

a gem of a restaurant. chattanooga is packed with a lot of mediocre restaurants. sure some of them are edible and at the end of the day you get what you pay for. if you haven't been to st. john's plan to treat yourself next time you have a special occasion. the food presentation alone is worth it. everything i have had here is delicious. i wish i could eat her more often but a girl's got to budget. the staff are always extremely friendly and helpful and it is refreshing to go into arestaurantknowing they will be using real and fresh ingredients.

bestrestaurantin chattanooga. i love fine dining and, in my humble opinion, st. john's is the best and most consistent fine dining establishment in chattanooga, tn. it has been a staple in my rotation for years and never disappoints. excellent servers and food.

appetizer and dessert were good. we had really high expectations after reading the reviews. and after relocating from charleston, a culinary mecca in its own right, we've been searching for a match. therestauranthas a very nice clean crisp modern feel. we were greeted warmly and service was great. i started with the foie gras and it was excellent. my husband had the squash raviolo which was good but got overwhelming after 3 or 4 bites. from there, things diverge. i had the duck medium rare on top of a sweet potato puree and onion confit. the duck had a very smoky flavor and came out rare making it very chewy and the puree was more like a soup for which i was not given a spoon. it didn't even taste much like sweet potato. it tasted it was watered down. my husband had the ribeye (medium) with truffle butter, wilted spinach and polenta straws. the ribeye came out rare which he sent back. in five minutes, it came back to the table still the same. at this point, he was so hungry, he just ate what he could of it around the edges. the steak was paired with oyster mushrooms which mixed a fishy taste with the earthy truffle butter which did not work. the spinach was good but the polenta straws were greasy and also didn't taste cooked through. we asked for the food to be boxed so we could take it home to cook it to our desire. for dessert, the ice cream trio and chocolate molten cake were tasty. if one meal weren't cooked to order, we might be willing to come back, but both meals were undercooked and the pairings with the sides didn't impress. after reading previews reviews, i'm going to saw this was an "off" night for them and since the appetizers were really good, we'll try it again when we run out of places in the noog to try.
