i had dinner at two restaurants while in town. i'm not a culinary expert but i travel and eat at very nice restaurants 1-3 times a week. when it comes to cuisine and chattanooga, st. john's is a culinary island. excellent. the sea bass was almost as good as i've had at one of the finest japanese restaurants in the world. from start to finish, the service, the bar, the staff (very welcoming and friendly)...not to exclude the food!...was excellent. everything was prepared perfectly. nothing overdone nothing underdone. the wine list is acceptable for a town this size with a few choice options. i never check the price on a menu, so was stunned when a dinner i expected to cost 400 cost me only 250.chattanoogahas a gem here. a restaurant finally rivaling tennessee's culinary neighbor nashville.

pretty food, bland flavor. to start, i think this place is really neat. a lot of people i know who are from larger cities (new york especially) really like this place. but i've found that, just because you're from a big city, it doesn't automatically make you an educated food buff. st. john's has a great concept, but they focus too much on aesthetic and not enough on flavor. i wish they would extend their menu variety outside the typicalchattanoogafair (pork and italian). also, not to mention the obvious or anything, but they are wayyy over priced (but hey, a couple scrapes of multi-colored sauces and a slice of pork loin with a flower can't be "fine dining" unless you charge $20 at least for it, right?). disappointing.

thank you chattanooga. st. john's truly revived my feelings of finding not only a decent place to eat in the area, but a fantastic place to eat. everying from the service to the food, to the wine list far exceeded my expectations. the foie gras was so good i honestly wanted it for dessert, but changed my mind when they had the valentines prix fix dessert on a la carte. start to finish, this is one of the bst meals i have had and who would of thought a chef from charleston would find it inchattanoogaon an improptu mini vacation from my vacation. all i can say is thank you martin, our server, and thank you st. john's for dinner on friday the 10th. next time i am back in the area, i will definately come in.

a gem of a restaurant.chattanoogais packed with a lot of mediocre restaurants. sure some of them are edible and at the end of the day you get what you pay for. if you haven't been to st. john's plan to treat yourself next time you have a special occasion. the food presentation alone is worth it. everything i have had here is delicious. i wish i could eat her more often but a girl's got to budget. the staff are always extremely friendly and helpful and it is refreshing to go into a restaurant knowing they will be using real and fresh ingredients.

treat yo'self.. i lived inchattanoogafor about 6 years and always wanted to try st. john's. before i moved, i had the opportunity to eat there twice.
both times i ate there were outstanding. the food is delectable.
i would definitely recommend st. john's to anyone in living in/visiting chattanooga. it's quite fancy and expensive, so prepare yourself, but it's quite the treat and if you have the means, by all means, treat yourself.

my all time favorite...period!. i live in atlanta and go to a number of well known restaurants here, but i can say that st. john's ranks as one of the all time best fine dining establishments i've visited. while this may be on the pricier side for the averagechattanoogarestaurants, it is in line price-point wise for fine dining.
from the well made drinks at the bar (with the fabulous seasoned homemade chips) to the perfectly prepared food and detailed service, everything has always been out of this world! their menu is seasonal and most of their food is from local farmers.
i've been to st john's for a number of business dinners as well as celebrations, and i've never walked out with one (not even one little itsy bitsy) bad or even mediocre experience!

super stars inchattanoogaand the southeast!!

a night out at the meeting place. ate with family at st. john's meeting place last night, one of our several visits. the service is always superb as it was last night. good selection of items. our group had the quail, scallops, and pork. quail was beautifully prepared, but the pork was so salty that i couldn't finish my dish (too much pancetta). scallops were well prepared -- not exceptional. the strawberry cobbler for dessert was a disappointment -- not a good consistency -- but the sorbet selection was outstanding and delicious. the cheese souffle appetizer with vegetables was very good as well. overall much better than mostchattanoogarestaurants.
