thank you chattanooga. st. john's truly revived my feelings of finding not only a decent place to eat in the area, but a fantastic place to eat. everying from the service to the food, to the wine list far exceeded my expectations. the foie gras was so good i honestly wanted it for dessert, but changed my mind when they had the valentines prix fixdesserton a la carte. start to finish, this is one of the bst meals i have had and who would of thought a chef from charleston would find it in chattanooga on an improptu mini vacation from my vacation. all i can say is thank you martin, our server, and thank you st. john's for dinner on friday the 10th. next time i am back in the area, i will definately come in.

appetizer anddessertwere good. we had really high expectations after reading the reviews. and after relocating from charleston, a culinary mecca in its own right, we've been searching for a match. the restaurant has a very nice clean crisp modern feel. we were greeted warmly and service was great. i started with the foie gras and it was excellent. my husband had the squash raviolo which was good but got overwhelming after 3 or 4 bites. from there, things diverge. i had the duck medium rare on top of a sweet potato puree and onion confit. the duck had a very smoky flavor and came out rare making it very chewy and the puree was more like a soup for which i was not given a spoon. it didn't even taste much like sweet potato. it tasted it was watered down. my husband had the ribeye (medium) with truffle butter, wilted spinach and polenta straws. the ribeye came out rare which he sent back. in five minutes, it came back to the table still the same. at this point, he was so hungry, he just ate what he could of it around the edges. the steak was paired with oyster mushrooms which mixed a fishy taste with the earthy truffle butter which did not work. the spinach was good but the polenta straws were greasy and also didn't taste cooked through. we asked for the food to be boxed so we could take it home to cook it to our desire. for dessert, the ice cream trio and chocolate molten cake were tasty. if one meal weren't cooked to order, we might be willing to come back, but both meals were undercooked and the pairings with the sides didn't impress. after reading previews reviews, i'm going to saw this was an "off" night for them and since the appetizers were really good, we'll try it again when we run out of places in the noog to try.

a night out at the meeting place. ate with family at st. john's meeting place last night, one of our several visits. the service is always superb as it was last night. good selection of items. our group had the quail, scallops, and pork. quail was beautifully prepared, but the pork was so salty that i couldn't finish my dish (too much pancetta). scallops were well prepared -- not exceptional. the strawberry cobbler fordessertwas a disappointment -- not a good consistency -- but the sorbet selection was outstanding and delicious. the cheese souffle appetizer with vegetables was very good as well. overall much better than most chattanooga restaurants.

amazing service. this is undoubtedly the premier dining venue in chattanooga. the waitstaff's service is unrivaled, and the environment is very crisp and formal. the entrees are superb, using locally grown ingredients. the desserts are a bit of a mixed bag. i had adessertsampler tray, and honestly, i wasn't impressed by anything. i'd recommend going to rembrandt's for dessert.

awesome dinner experience for 4. four of us visited st. john's tonight. we are in town on business and haven't been wowed by the local food scene. that has all changed - st. john's rocked us tonight. the atmosphere is hip and sophisticated. the bartender makes an excellent manhattan. our server megan could not have been better - well informed (obviously a foodie herself,) helpful, generous, professional, and made the great experience even better. we tried 4 appitizers (tune, scallops, shrimp & crab special, and roasted beets) and 4 entrees (buffalo, venison, kobi steak, & sea bass) the wine list is eclectic and fine. the chef sent us out some treats in between and megan plied us with a decadentdessertof carrot cake souffle - to die for. we will so be back! great job, all.
