spicy joint is a restaurant chain originated from shanghai that focuses on sichuan flavours. the traditional chinese decor and uniform makes it hard to tell you are not in china. the restaurant is quite spacious with plenty of seating to cater to small groups as well as big. . people queuing outside the restaurant

hidden up the escalators in chinatown i heard good things about thissichuanrestaurant, but i was still pleasantly surprised. loved the oriental interior and most importantly food was amazing. every dish did not fail to deliver. dishes are not too expensive, with good portions that are easy to share. good variety of spicy and mild dishes. my personal favourites were the peppercorn fish, tofu soup, and brown sugar rice cakes. service was prompt and booking process was smooth. will visit every time i crave sichuan!

rating 4.5 original in the chain in sydney & definitely one of the bestsichuanrestaurant in town (and there are plenty nowadays). always lots of people, a bit impacted by covid, but still a good showing. really can’t fault the food, every dish we got was delicious. lamb ribs bit fatty, but so satisfying. the sticky rice so flavoursome & fluffy. the service a notch behind the food, but overall ok. a really satisfying meal.

favouritesichuanrestaurant in sydney! big thumbs up 👍. the portion sizes were generous, every dish was full of flavour, just the right amount of heat and bottomless sauce (for a sauce lover, this place is food paradise)

i personally really liked their cumin lamb and the poached fish in seasoned broth and oil. the lamb was super juicy and the fish was also very fresh, tender and refreshing. not fishy at all and very gentle on the palate.

highly recommend you all to check out this place if you’re keen for a bit ofsichuanadventure 💕

this is a really popularsichuanrestaurant and we waited for more than one hour for a seat. but unfortunately the food didn't meet my expectation. i was really looking forward to an authenticsichuanstyle chilli beef soup but all i got was a bowl of weird beef and wombok soup with way too much thickening flour and too little spices. other dishes were alright but not worth the long wait imo.

my wife loves this one. for me, maybe because i had too manysichuanfoods before and am a bit picky, it is not surprisingly good. but i still rate it 5-star as the foods are well prepared. flavours of the dishes are not only correct but excellent, which is very difficult for some small restaurants. environment and services here are decent.

very popularsichuanchinese restaurant in chinatown, the dishes are very well portioned and although spicy, not overpowering where you can’t taste the food. lots of options on the menu too.

really loved this place. the price is decent but if you lovesichuanspicy food, this is the place to go. the resturant's interior looks quite fancy as well. we went there around 5:30 pm to avoid the crowd. we ordered 4 dishes and a drink and loved all the flavors (spicy but tasty and tolerable). pork trotters and the glass noodles were the best. would definitely come back for another pigging out...very soon!

used to be the bestsichuanrestaurant in sydney. however, the flavor had flopped dramatically after the first year. would not recommend here for casual dinning.

the bestsichuanfood i’ve had outside of china. there’s a reason people queue to grab a spot at this joint. the food is spicy but just the right amount— addicting!

food: 5/5
we ordered 6 dishes (pictured, but i forgot the official names) and were pleasantly surprised with the flavours. the chicken looked really greasy at first but the spice helped cut the oil — not to mention the meat was extremely tender. the cold noodles were my favourite as they were a good combination of sour, sweet, and spicy. would definitely come again. recommend 10/10

service: 4/5
the service was adequate and i didn’t feel like i was waiting too long or that i was getting bad service. however, i would give this place a 4 instead of a 5 because of the following reason— when you queue, you’re given a number on a piece of paper. you will then notice that the person calling out the humber only speaks in chinese. thankfully, i understand chinese so i was able to recognise when my number was being called. non-chinese speakers just a psa: study up on your chinese numbers or maybe ask for assistance when you go.

ambience: 5/5
the interior is very modern and spacious. the design of the restaurant definitely elevated the whole dining experience. they keep the areas fairly clean which is a plus!

just a tip for people who are visiting for the first time— in order to get to the restaurant, you will need to ride an escalator up one floor.

cloudy cheese was such a surprising surprise, not too sweet and tastes creamy, the cloud was created by dry ice in water. nice touch! other dishes were fairly standardsichuanhot dishes and they were not bad. fish was very fresh! the place handles birthday cake very well, the wait stuff helped us to clear the table and enjoy some byo bd cake! i would give them 4 but my issue is i have stomachache every time after eating here.😰 xihuahua 🐶 is low-key training me to eat spicy food i think.🤔

we visited this restaurant on a busy friday night and waited over 1 hour to be seated.

however, once we were seated and ordered, the food came out relatively quick. the food did not disappoint! great authenticsichuanfood that is nicely presented and reasonably priced.

the interior of this restaurant is quite nice and spacious.

not the biggest fan of chinese food, but was craving something spicy. got there around 5:30 and it wasn’t super busy. got seated straight away. ordered the fish in oil, assorted skewers and cold noodles. was way way way too much food for 2 people - the portion sizes are very generous for the price. service was ok can’t really expect much i guess - wait staff didn’t really understand english. otherwise, the food was really tasty. not sure it justifies the massive queues but it is really goodsichuanfood. would go back again.
