my friends took me to this restaurant a week ago, and then i went the day after again! this restaurant is always busy, but wait wasn’t too long ( 15mins for a table for 4, 5mins for a table for 2 at peak hours) the restaurant is spacious, and therefore it’s suitable for big groups as well.
the food was surprisingly good. some really spicy food made me very much satisfied. i especially liked the hotpot beef and the white rice. the rice was cooked with bamboo leaves so it had a very pleasant fragrance. i also ordered a lot of other dishes, all of them were pretty successful.
this restaurant has now become my favouritechineserestaurant in sydney.
it would be great if the owner could change the background music if possible. (it could be just me though) i found the music a bit creepy sometimes...

spicy joint is a restaurant chain originated from shanghai that focuses on sichuan flavours. the traditionalchinesedecor and uniform makes it hard to tell you are not in china. the restaurant is quite spacious with plenty of seating to cater to small groups as well as big. . people queuing outside the restaurant

the service in chatswood is so bad. one of the staff is so rude and is the oldchineseguy there for assigning seats for customers, so rude as well.  the food is just so so. there are so many nice places could try in chatswood. no reason to see the staff's cold face. we pay is not just for the food, for service as well.

very popular sichuanchineserestaurant in chinatown, the dishes are very well portioned and although spicy, not overpowering where you can’t taste the food. lots of options on the menu too.

the best sichuan food i’ve had outside of china. there’s a reason people queue to grab a spot at this joint. the food is spicy but just the right amount— addicting!

food: 5/5
we ordered 6 dishes (pictured, but i forgot the official names) and were pleasantly surprised with the flavours. the chicken looked really greasy at first but the spice helped cut the oil — not to mention the meat was extremely tender. the cold noodles were my favourite as they were a good combination of sour, sweet, and spicy. would definitely come again. recommend 10/10

service: 4/5
the service was adequate and i didn’t feel like i was waiting too long or that i was getting bad service. however, i would give this place a 4 instead of a 5 because of the following reason— when you queue, you’re given a number on a piece of paper. you will then notice that the person calling out the humber only speaks in chinese. thankfully, i understandchineseso i was able to recognise when my number was being called. non-chinese speakers just a psa: study up on yourchinesenumbers or maybe ask for assistance when you go.

ambience: 5/5
the interior is very modern and spacious. the design of the restaurant definitely elevated the whole dining experience. they keep the areas fairly clean which is a plus!

just a tip for people who are visiting for the first time— in order to get to the restaurant, you will need to ride an escalator up one floor.

not the biggest fan ofchinesefood, but was craving something spicy. got there around 5:30 and it wasn’t super busy. got seated straight away. ordered the fish in oil, assorted skewers and cold noodles. was way way way too much food for 2 people - the portion sizes are very generous for the price. service was ok can’t really expect much i guess - wait staff didn’t really understand english. otherwise, the food was really tasty. not sure it justifies the massive queues but it is really good sichuan food. would go back again.

actual review: 3.5

spicy joint has a perpetual queue that never seems to disperse. it's not hard to understand why: convenient chinatown location, nice interior and most importantly, good food. highlights: cold poached chicken in spicy sichuan sauce; steamed pork ribs and millet; fish fillet with pickled vegetables; lamb skewers. the milderchinesecabbage with gingko balanced out the strong flavours of the other dishes nicely. service was efficient and our dishes came out quickly. would recommend but keep in mind there will likely be a line during peak dining hours.

spicy joint

spicychinesefood lovers will definately enjoy this place. to avoid long queues it's best to make a booking.

the food were all tasty with a mix a different ingredients. first time trying a dish that was mash potato with pumpkin soup which was a great contrast to the spicy dishes. the buns were thin but will get you full quickly.

the dishes came out moderately quickly and all at once. there's alot of choices to choose from and not all are chilli.

prices ranges between up to $10 to $30 per dish.
great place to go in groups to try different dishes.

overall, good quality and portions forchinesespicy food.

best sichuan spicychinesefood i’ve tried in sydney. authentic and not expensive considering the food quality and whole atmosphere. the staffs are quite nice too.
i’ve been there several times, very popular and always needs reservations, otherwise you’ll need to wait more than 40 mins usually. this is good choice when you have a good bunch of people gathering , so you can try all different kinds of food, cuz they are all very good!

i was certain that i heard this name somewhere, thinking back i remembered spicy joint had many branches of sichuan food in shanghai. whether it is the same, i’m not sure. it was beginning to line up at around 6 on friday. the interior design had a modern approach with traditionalchineseroots. service wasn’t enthusiastic.

many dishes were presented thoughtfully and carefully. the contrast of chunky chilli sauce with green bean noodles was delicious. chicken was tender with good heat and flavour. my favourite dish, poached fish in aromatic oil, lacked seasoning and the spice forward aroma. it has room for improvement.

definitely one of my favouritechinesecuisine in town now! although they are a little bit spicy, but it's the real taste of szechuan, one of a kind in sydney! however the service was a little bit slow and disappointed.

one of the best and most popular sichuan restaurant. dishes are not as heavy as mostchineserestaurants. you should definitely try their soup, dessert and cold dishes as they are very authentic but rare outside china. either one of their three recommended fish dishes would be great! the restaurant is very nicely decorated. great for any group size. price is very reasonable. definitely recommend.

it seems it has a chain of restaurants in china but i tried it for the first time in sydney. if you wanna try authenticchinesefood, it's a right place to go. although it is called spicy china, there are many non-spicy dishes. maybe need to wait to be seated on weekend evenings.
