food is always incredible. the chicken and fish are always so tender and i have never been disappointed. i’ve been here 3 times now and love it every time. there have been some misses but more wins and it’s just about trying the menu. every time i go the standard is the chicken, bean noodles, and the buns with sweet dipping sauce. i think i’ll have to also add the cold noodles to the list too! just as a suggestion, between the 2 fishes, don’t select the one with deep fried oil. it’s less spicy and not as flavoursome as the other one.

my friends took me to this restaurant a week ago, and then i went the day after again! this restaurant is always busy, but wait wasn’t too long ( 15mins for a table for 4, 5mins for a table for 2 at peak hours) the restaurant is spacious, and therefore it’s suitable for big groups as well.
the food was surprisingly good. some really spicy food made me very much satisfied. i especially liked the hotpot beef and the white rice. the rice was cooked with bamboo leaves so it had a very pleasant fragrance. i also ordered a lot of other dishes, all of them were pretty successful.
this restaurant has now become my favourite chinese restaurant in sydney.
it would be great if the owner could change the background music if possible. (it could be just me though) i found the music a bit creepy sometimes...

spicy joint is a restaurant chain originated from shanghai that focuses on sichuan flavours. the traditional chinese decor and uniform makes it hard to tell you are not in china. the restaurant is quite spacious with plenty of seating to cater to small groups as well as big. . people queuing outside the restaurant

wow, this was something different. every dish was drowning in rich oily sauce, whether hot (the beef and vegetables) or cold (one with chicken and one with cucumber and garlic - yes even that had lots of chilli sauce). this can cause a big mess but it's great food and big serves. my main complaint is that it's not actually very spicy - just a medium slow-burn spice.

hidden up the escalators in chinatown i heard good things about this sichuan restaurant, but i was still pleasantly surprised. loved the oriental interior and most importantly food was amazing. every dish did not fail to deliver. dishes are not too expensive, with good portions that are easy to share. good variety of spicy and mild dishes. my personal favourites were the peppercorn fish, tofu soup, and brown sugar rice cakes. service was prompt and booking process was smooth. will visit every time i crave sichuan!

everything here was surprisingly very delicious, and surprised its so tucked away above eating world it should really get more traction. highlights include: deep fried chicken with dry chili pepper, roast lamb chops, braised chicken feet with chili sauce, steamed pork ribs with glutinous rice, combination hotpot in chilli sauce, noodle soup with minced pork dressing. don't worry about the chilli, nothing was as chilli as it looked, but everything was super flavourful and delicious. new favourite hidden gem in chinatown.

rating 4.5 original in the chain in sydney & definitely one of the best sichuan restaurant in town (and there are plenty nowadays). always lots of people, a bit impacted by covid, but still a good showing. really can’t fault the food, every dish we got was delicious. lamb ribs bit fatty, but so satisfying. the sticky rice so flavoursome & fluffy. the service a notch behind the food, but overall ok. a really satisfying meal.

spicy joint has ridiculous large menu with amazing spicy options. the seating setup is amazing to allow the intimacy with your own table but enough space to separate from other tables.

we ordered
1. chilled fungi
2. satay chicken skewers
3. chilli gizzard skewers
4. pickled cabbage pot soup
5. pork slices in chilli

all dishes really hit the spot. considering we ordered all these dishes for 2, the 1 dish i would take out was probably the skewers because it’s something you could get anywhere else.

food 5/5
overall 4.5/5

favourite sichuan restaurant in sydney! big thumbs up 👍. the portion sizes were generous, every dish was full of flavour, just the right amount of heat and bottomless sauce (for a sauce lover, this place is food paradise)

i personally really liked their cumin lamb and the poached fish in seasoned broth and oil. the lamb was super juicy and the fish was also very fresh, tender and refreshing. not fishy at all and very gentle on the palate.

highly recommend you all to check out this place if you’re keen for a bit of sichuan adventure 💕

went there 8:40pm, the receptionist (very bad attitude ) told us that we must decide what we wanna order in no more than one minute and finish eating by 9:50pm while their opening time is till 10pm. felt so unwelcome. won’t go there anymore.

the service in chatswood is so bad. one of the staff is so rude and is the old chinese guy there for assigning seats for customers, so rude as well.  the food is just so so. there are so many nice places could try in chatswood. no reason to see the staff's cold face. we pay is not just for the food, for service as well.

this is a really popular sichuan restaurant and we waited for more than one hour for a seat. but unfortunately the food didn't meet my expectation. i was really looking forward to an authentic sichuan style chilli beef soup but all i got was a bowl of weird beef and wombok soup with way too much thickening flour and too little spices. other dishes were alright but not worth the long wait imo.
