ok, so it's pretty much all fried food, which is hard to really mess up. still, snoopy'sdoes a better job at serving up fried seafood than most places. as proof of that, i submit the half-sampler, a plate with two fried shrimp, two pieces of fried fish, and two fried oysters (though on mine, there were four fried oysters; i didn't complain then, and i'm not complaining now), plus french fries and a small, possibly only symbolic, ramekin of coleslaw.

of the three meats, the fish was the best. the pieces were good sized, and lightly fried in very hot oil to come out crispy, juicy and delectable. the seasonings in the batter were subtle but pleasing, and the fish was cooked through without being allowed to overcook by even a few seconds.

well, no; no; i'm going to say the oysters. they were the best. delicious little nuggets of highly-seasoned shellfish, crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. cha', bé, don't you know that how they s'posed to be, mais yeah.
i take it back: the shrimp were the best. though there were only two (and the quantity of cocktail sauce was, shall we say, understated), they had an excellent flavour and a superb texture. and i'm one of those people who eats the tail shells, thanks to my proper finishing school in loozianny, so i know from shrimp texture. if i could have only one meat course, it'd have to be the shrimp.

well. ok, i can't decide. even the fries were very well done, and i find that's true less often than you'd think. my only complaint has to be that this half-sampler doesn't come with hushpuppies, and i believe it's an assertion i couldn't challenged weresnoopy'spier to assert that it has the best hush puppies in the whole world. luckily for me, the friend i was with, poor benighted soul, doesn't like hushpuppies, and so i got his. mmmm.

one other fact of note: we arrived just before sunset on a partly-cloudy day, and got the last table on the back deck. the sun went down dramatically beyond the laguna madre, and suddenly we were alone. everybody comes for the show as well as the food.

the curmudgeon’s ratings (explained, sort of, on the curmudgeon-about-town blog):

food: 4 chili peppers (out of 5)
service: 2 1/2 chili peppers
ambience: 3 chili peppers
value: 2 1/2 chili peppers

snoopy's is a popular lunch restaurant for locals and visitors alike! a casual restaurant, it has great fried seafood and picnic style tables out by the water. the restaurant is located right on the inter-coastal waterway, so it is nice to enjoy your lunch while watching boats travel up and down the waterway!

we visitsnoopy'sfairly often with family and friends. the atmosphere is relaxed but upbeat and friendly. the seafood is great. i pretty much only eat seafood there, but they don't offer much else. so go hungry for some good seafood.

there's an "inside" dining area, but the best place to sit is along the pier. you can enjoy the water and sunset while visiting with friends. this place is probably good for a quick lunch, but its strength is in its atmosphere that invites relaxation and conversation with friends.

i like everything atsnoopy'sexcept having to order and pay at the counter. i might actually be able and willing to spend more if i could run a tab...

in the winter you can sit by the fire, in the summer you can be out on the patio.

lots of fried offerings on the menu, but this is a comfort zone restaurant. enjoy it for what it is.

crab stuffed jalapeños are my favorite, and cold beer goes with everything.

three cheers for snoopy's. i was surf fishing with my son & daughter-in-law and after a wonderful morning my son drove tosnoopy'spier for a late lunch. they ordered a "combo" for me.
when i saw the plate of fish, shrimp, oysters, fries and cole slaw, i said "i can't eat all of this". i made a liar out of myself. the food was so well prepared and delicious that i did not leave a crumb on my plate.
we ate outside and i really enjoyed the experience. my son told me that they eat there every time
they go fishing. we sure could use asnoopy'sin delaware.

family tradition worth starting/keeping. went tosnoopy'sa year after they opened, the first time. although we've since moved, my parents live on n. padre, and a visit tosnoopy'sis a mandatory part of every family visit. while my family has been (joyfully!) all over the menu, i haven't been able to get beyond ordering a double order of fried oysters every time, in all the years i've been going. maybe this year........

the catch of the day is always excellent, and in the winter, their central heating system is very cozy. well, worth going to for family, on a date, or any time. this is one of those places the locals don't tell visitors about it's so good!!!

snoopy's pier is and always will be the best seafood this town can offer. fresh fish, shrimp, and oysters are freshly battered before frying. the atmosphere is simple and comfortable. the ocean view is the best! so what if they are cash only? sorry your lazy ass is too tired to walk 15 ft to the atm. it is worth it.snoopy'spier took the number 1 spot on usa today's best seafood in the country. leaves other's opinions behind and come try it out for yourself. you won't regret it

fried fish & 4x4's. i enjoy going tosnoopy'sbecause i get to throw up some beach sand with my pickup on the approach - i know, its illegal - but i love doing it (don't turn me in, please...) watch the black, slick looking stuff - you'll just end up calling a tow-truck. (experience talking here.)
all that said, i love eating here as well. yeah, its all fried, the place is beach shack cheesy, the staff is friendly and helpful and i didn't think the prices were any higher than any other place i've been to of the same quality. and cash only is no big deal. cash still works in this part of america (for now). so, its okay.
nothing really stands out here, but its just an enjoyable place and if you've got the kids in tow on a hot south texas day, the ice cream stand at the other end of the place will please as well.
you know, sometimes you just gotta' get in your 4x4 and go get some fried fish, and throw back some cold beers while looking out over the corpus bay. this is definitely the place for that.

we have been eating atsnoopy'spier for years and love it. they have very fresh fish, their special menu changes with availability of fish. the fish and the shrimp sandwiches are very good. their broiled fish plates are always very good, a little expensive if you compare to long john silver's frozen fish! we have some friends who love their fish and chips.

disappointed.snoopy'sfor years has been the first place we eat at when coming down to the beach, but after this last time we may be changing that. to me, they have always been a little pricey, but for fresh tasting shrimp it's been worth it. when we went down this past may though, the shrimp was tough and chewy and the fish was extremely greasy. i was so disappointed after spending $60 for 4 of us to eat, and having to throw most of it away because it was just too gross to eat. the atmosphere is great and they continue to improve on that aspect but now they need to improve on food that they apparently have let slide down the drain.

-----18 jan, 2010-----

we ate there this past saturday for lunch. we all got the fried shrimp and added a dozen hush puppies. the shriimp tasted fresh and very good with its light crispy coating on it. we've been coming to the area for the past 18 years andsnoopy'sis always on our list to eat at.

snoopy's pier. we have heard thatsnoopy'swas a restaurant we needed to experience. after dinner here on saturday night, i am not sure thatsnoopy'slives up to the hype. the food was good, but we had been led to expect more.

if you do not like fried foods, then you may as well not stop and eat here. if you like fried foods every so often, then you will enjoy this. we rarely eat anything fried, but this was an exception.

the atmosphere is coastal marsh wharf shack style. looks like a dump, but having grown up along the coast, i know places such as this can be great dining experiences - if you like most everything fried.

my partner and i ordered two combo dinners. these included 4 shrimp, 4 oysters, 4 fish, and fries. he got the stuffed jalapenos and cole slaw. i got the fried okra and hush puppies. we were both quite stuffed.

snoopy's is a nice little local place with coastal flair and good waterway views. service is fast and friendly, even when busy. it was a good evening for us, and we enjoyed snoopy's. we shall return in a few months.

i grew up on this place, what happened???. they used to serve amberjack or mahi mahi for the fish and chips, but today they served covina which is drum....ugh! it was fatty and greasy....the greasy wasn't from the frying. i came home to visit from alexandria va. because i grew up onsnoopy'sseafood. what happened? so disappointed.
i will defintely call when i come back to town and question the fish before i make the effort to drive out there.

best of the best. food is not expensive. for those that say it is then you're cheap. beggers can't be choosers. next time check your wallet before walking inside;snoopy'spier is simply too good for those that complain.

cash only? so what?! for those that complain: you're just lazy to walk to the atm that literally less than ten steps to the left of the main entrance.

food greasy? it's fried, what did you expect? and take a good look at you: i'm sure you're way past greasy yourself.

snoopy's pier is the place to eat seafood in corpus christi, texas. the fish is caught, skinned, cut, and fried all in one day. no fish is old, no fries are old, no grease is old, everything is fresh.

and what's best:snoopy'spier recipes are family recipes and absolutely secret. what does this mean?

that you will not find fish likesnoopy'sfish anywhere else in the world. seriously, it's just amazing.

my favorite dish: fish and chips. simplicity is best. regardless, i'm never disappointed.
