skipper's fish fry

damn good fish sandwich. this was my first visit and i was very impressed with skipper's. there fishsandwichcombo is awesome!

let’s get one thing straight right away: skipper’s knows fresh seafood. in fact, if there’s one place in the triangle that’s “money” every single time, it’s this award-winning counter-service eatery in apex. whether you choose the remarkable fried cod or floundersandwichor scrumptious large shrimp platter, you’ll get plenty of food that’s as fresh as you’ll find anywhere around here. oh yeah, it’s also cooked to order as soon as you place it. like fish tacos? then you can’t go wrong with two flour tortillas stuffed with tempura-battered cod, house-made cabbage cilantro salad and pico de gallo, plus a tangy white sauce that are worth the price of admission (the fish taco plate comes with mexican rice and a drink for just $6.99). it’s also worth mentioning here that you’d be hard-pressed to find better hushpuppies than skipper’s serves, so be sure not to miss out on these pieces of fried golden goodness that wil

undecided. i think we'll need a return trip before concluding on a like or dislike. the pros: great sweet tea, really good hushpuuppies, very clean dining room & restroom, no tipping policy. the cons: fish insandwichwas totally bland, kids baby shrimp were limp and cold, crab legs had a strange chemical taste, plastic cutlery, counter service only, grease laden gumbo.

the con i can't get past is the bland fish in the sandwich. i do not understand using a bland unseasoned batter!! i guess i am not a fan of the cracker meal either. yes, it was huge as others have stated. despite my best efforts, i could not infuse any flavor in the thing. i first tried the tarter sauce. it still seemed like i was eating a cardboard box. then i doused it with texas pete. no improvement. i dumped their house spicy seasoning on it. still nothing. i went up and asked for some lemon and squirted away. still dry and flavorless. more seasoning. woops, too much. last, i got some cocktail sauce and realized i should have started with that. but by then, i had filled up on hushpuppies and sweet tea.

the fish used in thesandwichdoes not have the same batter as the flounder pictured in another review. the flounder batter looks much more appetizing.

a good fish fry. a traditional souther fish fry with good sides and a casual, almost fast-food, atmosphere. my family and i have been several times and the quality is consistant. try the fried clams, the traditional fried fish plater, and the fishsandwich(it's a must try for first timers). don't go expecting health food or if you are a veggie of the no seafood persuasion.

love at first bite. skippers is one of those places where you can't judge a book by its cover! the exterior is unassuming but the food inside is the best in the area - the best fish food that is!

in particular the fishsandwichis terrific - and too much food for one. bring a girl friend and share!

the best. when i first moved to this area in 2006, i saw the n&o's review of skipper's stating that they had the best fishsandwichin the triangle. for months i couldn't locate the restaurant then i happened on to it in passing. i went in and have been a devootee ever since.
james, barry, sam and steve have become friends. they always welcome you with a friendly greeting and the seafood(of all kinds) is the best fried fish i've ever had.
the portions are large and the price very reasonable. my wife and i eat there at least twice weekly and heartiliy recommend skipper's to anyone who likes fresh, delicious fried seafood.,

hofman hotdogs!!!. they've got snappy's! i'd been missing these things ever since i moved down here 10 years ago. i heard from a co-worker that they had them, so we came in for lunch today. man it takes me back. i'll be checking out their seafood next time. that fishsandwichthey have looks huge, but i got to have my hofmans.

great place!. the best fried seafood in the area. very kid friendly. fishsandwichbigger than your head. we were very impressed with the quality of the food and service. it reminded me of walking into an old florida fish fry, and that's a good thing!
can't wait to go back.
