skipper's fish fry

i've only had their fish and chips, and the quality of the fish was far above and beyond my expectations. fries and hush puppies were adequate. i will be back for the exceptional quality of the fish for sure. you can order by phone and pick up at the window, which isgreatfor this unshowered busy mama.

don't like it, find some place else.. was expectinggreatseafood after hearing everyone talk about this place and was very disappointed. ordered a combo platter and received a plate of over battered, greasy fish. the catfish was full of bones, very thin and over cooked. the scallops are small and bounced higher than most rubber balls. the place could also use a good cleaning, we had lots of trash and spoiled food under our table. plus we had to ask for a rag to clean off our own table. i would keep looking for a better seafood place, as this is not one of them.

where do i start?! from the moment we walked in we were greeted and welcomed with a huge smile. this was our first time here and boy let me tell you it's definitely not our last. my boyfriend and i ordered the flounder platter and fish tacos. sooooo yummy!!!! the fish is so fresh and crispy! i seriously cannot wait to go back and try everything on the menu. the price isgreatfor the awesome size portions we got. total of $15 and change for dinner is great!! love love love this place! customer service is amazing. i couldn't be happier to support this local restaurant.

this place is awesome. they're just what you expect, but better. everything is homemade, the owner was friendly and generous and everyone had something they loved for lunch! they had a nice draft beer selection ( though we were here too early on a sunday to enjoy it). love that you can get things grilled or blackened instead of fried. excellent reports on the blackened fish sandwich, grilled mahi-mahi tacos, gigantic fried fish sandwich, cole slaw, and onion rings. we're so excited to have discovered agreatnew place to go! the integrity of the food is much appreciated.

great lunch deals. the lunch deals are amazing. the price includes a drink. the portions are pretty good for lunch andgreatconsidering the price. the catfish is really good.

yum!. i got caught in apex in an overnight for work. looking for something close to my hotel, i stumbled into skippers. i got the fish tacos, and to my surprise, they were great! granted, this place is no cabo fish taco (charlotte, nc), but it was really good. the tacos were fried cod and came with shredded cabbage and a fresh pico de gallo, and a little slice of fresh lime to squeeze on it, which i took advantage of. a little beer was the perfect compliment, and made for agreatmeal. if you are expecting a high end seafood place, this aint it. this is a good old fashioned fried fish place with reasonably priced food, but much better tasting than most fried fish. ok, now to the con - the counter staff was miserably inexperienced, and seemed clueless. i watched as they struggled to figure out who's food was who's and which one of them should take it to the table. i'm glad mine was take-out. other than that, this place was a nice find

undecided. i think we'll need a return trip before concluding on a like or dislike. the pros:greatsweet tea, really good hushpuuppies, very clean dining room & restroom, no tipping policy. the cons: fish in sandwich was totally bland, kids baby shrimp were limp and cold, crab legs had a strange chemical taste, plastic cutlery, counter service only, grease laden gumbo.

the con i can't get past is the bland fish in the sandwich. i do not understand using a bland unseasoned batter!! i guess i am not a fan of the cracker meal either. yes, it was huge as others have stated. despite my best efforts, i could not infuse any flavor in the thing. i first tried the tarter sauce. it still seemed like i was eating a cardboard box. then i doused it with texas pete. no improvement. i dumped their house spicy seasoning on it. still nothing. i went up and asked for some lemon and squirted away. still dry and flavorless. more seasoning. woops, too much. last, i got some cocktail sauce and realized i should have started with that. but by then, i had filled up on hushpuppies and sweet tea.

the fish used in the sandwich does not have the same batter as the flounder pictured in another review. the flounder batter looks much more appetizing.
