not in the elite. simon's is a hugely popular restaurant in anchorage, but please don't be fooled. two of the last three times i have gone there it has been bad. onetimemy party and myself, four total, were forced to wait around an hour even though we had reservations. in the end we decided to seat ourselves in the attached bar, the food was nothing remarkable that night either. anothertimei stopped in with my dad to try their elk burger, a special that day, the burger was decent until i bit into a bone chip in the burger and slightly chipped a tooth. though in their defense they took care of the bill and offered to pay for any dental work, very nice of them. lastly, the last good experience i had there was at easter brunch with family, the service was quick and the meal was very tasty, i had french toast with berry compote and my dad had some tasty corned beef hash. in the end there are many other places i would go to first if i was looking for a fancy dinner.

nice decor but overpriced! my wife liked the encrusted scallops. i had the king crab which was ok. not as sweet and tasteful as other places in anchorage. for the price i would expect them to be split to allow easy eating. we both had scalloped potatoes with our entrée. the 1st bite or two were fine but they soon got tough, chewy and overwhelmed by the heavy cheese. i really love cheese and i thought that i would never say too much cheese but... these had way too much cheese! the creme brûlée was good. service was very slow but i have to give our waitress props! she was continually busy with folding napkins, busing tables etc. while waiting on customers when at the sametimeone waitress laughed and talked to the same table for 30 mins. leaving other waitresses to do her work. i doubt that i will be back for anything besides happy hour specials.

should of listened to the reviews. management issue needs to be fixed or you can just say it's alaska and everything takestimeto make it here, even your food. well....started with reservations took us 20 mins to get seated at our table and we where there on time. after we where seated our drinks and appetizers came in a timely manner along with my kids food...then we waited another 56 mins for our food. portion size was fit for a toddler i had to check an see if we ordered off the kids menu! the waiters where nice but the confusion came from the kitchen and funneled all the way to the bus boy. i felt like i was on one of those kitchen nightmare shows. the food was pretty good considering. ...but when you live up here you do not get what you pay for 100 bones for miniscule meal. in law's from the lower 48 where very disappointed in the service and the food....sorry guys gave you the benefit of the doubt, but like the 140ish people who rated you 75 percent of the people say the same thing your service sucks.....nice view though but after an hour i would of rather tossed there management out of the window. because this is clearly a management issue you can't do the same thing over an over again and get the same result but i guess that's what i'm doing complain like every one else who wasted there life in your restaurant.

sunday brunch. waste of money....the service was so so, the eggs benedict was over cooked and for it being simon & seafort's and the price it should have been spot on. the coffee had grinds in it on the first cup, requested a fresh cup, we got the coffee but had to wait for sometimefor the server to bring it. maybe they should have a floater on the floor offer refills on coffee as they do on the water...ijs

3rd time! charm?? nott!!. after horrible food prep the thirdtimeduring "brunch" i'm done !!
server was great. sunday morning smells like dirty mop water. :( sad because the menu looks great and the view of the inlet is priceless. morning staff has no regard for patrons while conversing about work issues. :(

thanksgiving dinner, not so much to be thankful for.. it should have been a clue when we arrived and heard a hostess say "i am just to busy for all these people." thanksgiving is a busytimeof year and we thought a nice dinner at s & s's would be nice. the reduced menu caught us a bit off guard, instead of the full menu. i thought about the turkey dinner until the couple crushed next to us received that menu item. it sort of looked like a tv dinner without the tray. i think asking two... no wait three times for a coffee fill up is a bit much. the best item we ate tonight was the ice cream on the pie. the service from the "busy" girl to the waitress was mcdonalds like at best. skip this place if there is a booth at mcdonalds available.

so so. i tried this place when in anchorage for work and ordered the crab bisque as an app and then halibut cheeks. this place is feels like a high end tourist restaurant. it's situated on the water and is the kind of place you'd want to take your family for an "upscale" event. it has a suspiciously corporate feel to it, though i'm not sure whether it is.

the food is just ok, especially considering how pricey it is. the bisque was relied on too much cream which overpowered any nuance in the stock. the halibut cheeks were actually kind of gross. they are touted as a cross between crab and halibut since the meat is stringy and the flavor like halibut. like the soup the dish suffered from too much dairy since the cheeks are rolled in a bunch of cheese and then pan fried. i'm not a big fan of cheese and fish, and this dish convinced me they don't really pair very well. although they were cooked nicely with a crispy brown crust, they come off as too rich thanks to all the cheese & butter. the fish flavors end up overwhelmed and i felt stuffed after only 2/3 of the dish.

the wine list is poor.

better food is available in anchorage. i'd save my money nexttimeand look elsewhere for seafood.

i flew into anchorage for the firsttimethis past weekend and knew that i wanted something i couldn't get from back home (i'm from ohio). my husband and i got picked up by a cab and asked him to take us to the best seafood restaurant in anchorage, which he recommended simon and seaforts. the restaurant sits on the harbor and you can get a seat by the huge class window and watch the alaskan sunset. we ordered the calamari, the sampler and the halibut cheeks. i cannot begin to describe how amazing the halibut cheeks were. i continue to rant and rave about them! i would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting good seafood and a beautiful view!

many years of great. we'd not been to simons in several years and in april we went for my husband's birthday lunch. we showed up very casual in tshirts and jeans and were seated in the midst of working professionals in suits and ties as this restaurant is a building housing many corporations and law firms. they have a reputation as being a place lawyers frequent. although i felt awkward we received absolutely stunning service. their window seating offers incredible views of cook inlet and the food was phenomenal. we have always enjoyed the food and service at simon's and wondered why we'd never tried them for lunch before and why it had been so long since we'd been there. it was an excellent experience. we wont wait so long to return and i can feel more comfortable in my casual clothes nexttimeknowing the staff really doesn't care what you wear....

cap. i have eaten at simon and seafort several times . eachtimei eat there you pay way to much for what is served. for instance, on 03/20/11 my wife, her sister and my self had dinner at s&s. i ordered the special 3 for $40. i had a lettuce wedge for a starter then my main course was 4 shrimp with grits. for dessert it was a piece of key lime pie. everytimei have left there i feel like i have been riped off. s&s is way to expensive and the food is medicore.

simon & seafort's. the firsttimei went to s & s, it was with a group of friends. we headed to the half-off happy hour on a friday afternoon. $4 drinks, and heavily discounted appetizers, with a jovial (but busy) atmosphere will set off any friday night on the right foot.

my friends ordered the $4 cabernet sauvignon, which wasn't bad. i ordered the chardonnay, which had zero flavor. then we had the meatloaf sliders, which we finished and ordered more they were so good! tried out the beef teriyaki, sweet potato fries and also the artichoke dip. by thetimewe were done, we each paid about $25, had a light buzz and full tummies.

it's definitely worth trying during the happy hour.

with that said, i'll review the secondtimewe went to s & s. we decided to try a full dinner this time, on a tuesday night; we had a relative in town on his way to japan and thought we'd show him a goodtimeand a nice dinner. after we sat on the bar side, it wasn't that busy, and our waiter knew immediately we were there (we sat right next to the register/ drinks/ silverware area). right away he set out a bread basket for us. unfortunately, none of us wanted to touch it yet, as we didn't have plates, napkins, waters, or silverware for another 15 minutes.

he eventually brought the accoutrement for our appetizer, but we were catching up and were not quite ready to order. because of this, we waited and waited for him to come back. eventually, my boyfriend and his cousin ordered the salmon dinner special of the day, and i ordered the tableside seafood etoufee. all was cooked to perfection, though i was a tad disappointed in the etouffee, the accompanying sauce was not that great.

what really stung about this dinner was not the lacking, long service and forced conversation from the waiter, but the outrageous prices. we ordered three entrees, no appetizers, no dessert and only drank waters, and our bill was well over $100.

do not get me wrong, the dinner was great. however, you could get an equivalent quality meal, with appetizers and a beer at the brewhouse or a multitude of other places for less than we paid at simon and seafort's.

the moral of the story is, i will not be returning, unless it's for happy hour, to simon and seafort's.

long term disapointment. simon's is just not what it use to be. if you've never been, it's prolly safe to go and enjoy the view. long term foodies in a-rage are better off spending their dining dollar elsewhere. food quality and availability of longtimefavorites has declined. the scratch's aren't the same and what they have done to the brandy ice is criminal. service, especially for groups, has plummeted. don't bother. really.
