go for the peking duck!. the problem with having a favourite dish on a menu is that when i return, i seldom order anything else. the peking duck here is so delicious & reasonably priced, i crave it weekly. ordered with the little pancakes, steamed rice & the watercress soup & i'm done for another week!

the dim sum on the weekends is ensures a packed ouse. dim sum is cantonese-styled tapas -- a plethora of creatively presented morsels made from mostly pork, chicken, beef & shrimp & rice ingredients. for dessert, the egg custard tarts are heavenly melt-in-your-mouth goodness!!!

in fact, everything on their extensive menu is deliciously prepared. there's a reason why they're still going strong after what must be over 45 years -- these people know how to cook! not surprising they have a longstanding, rabid fan base.

hands down my fave chinese restaurant in calgary.

calgary's best. silver dragon is by far the best chinese in calgary. great place for large parties and that way you get to eat family style and taste lots of different dishes. among my favorites were szechaun eggplant with pork, the bok choy with mushrooms, and the singapore noodles. a must for all calgarians.

the last time i visited silver dragon in calgary was over a decade ago. the restaurant was pretty much a go to dim sum restaurant every time we took a trip down to calgary. each visit had been pleasant and i talked to a few people who are acquainted with the restaurant often referred to as "the place upstairs". my recent trip to calgary landed us with the question of where to go for dim sum this time. due to time constraint and limited knowledge of the city, it was a coin toss between silver dragon and forbidden city. between the 2 restaurants, they both have descent ratings on urbanspoon which made it even tougher to choose. in the end, we stuck with what we know and revisited silver dragon in chinatown once again. after all these years, the restaurant was still as busy as i had remembered which was a good sign. after about 20 minutes, we were finally seated in a far back corner which made it hard to see the food carts coming around. the service was also a bit slow due to the lunch ru

prices off. the dim sum at silver dragon is relatively good. the prices vary for the dishes, from week to week, seemingly if you attend with a regular diner. on the weekends of january 14 and january 29, we had exactly the same dishes minus 4 (there were 4 people on the 22nd and 2 on 29th). the bill for the 14th was $41, the bill for the 29th $33.40. it seems if you don't go with someone the staff recognizes you will be billed for large/ extra large dishes when only ordering medium/small size ones.

best dim sum in calgary. we have eaten at many of the dim sum places in the city, and in other cities like edmonton & vancouver. silver dragon is the best. dim sum is excellent, there is a wide selection, and the atmosphere is great for families with kids, big groups, and smaller parties alike. dim sum is our favorite cuisine, and this has been our go to spot almost every sunday for years. go. eat. leave outrageously full...but already planning your next visit like we seem to do time & time again.

large variety and decent service. my husband and a couple friends went to celebrate a birthday. i was impressed by the large and varied menu (by my standards, anyway); you could get your north american-style 'chinese' food or you could get some slightly more exotic-looking stuff (like i had at ho won).

we quite enjoyed the super-stuffed potstickers (largest i've ever seen), lettuce duck wraps (bits of duck & veg), ginger beef (nice and crispy, enough sauce, but could use more heat),... the only thing i enjoyed less was the sizzling rice with seafood and veg. the seafood was fine - in fact, the pieces were quite large (whole large scallops, large shrimp, squid) but something about the flavour left something to be desired... too fishy? i don't know - i like seafood, even fishy stuff, but this struck me as toooo fishy.

service was prompt and polite and the tables were space enough that no one felt crowded. i liked the service there way better than ho won (where we felt ignored). i'll go back to this place.

great dim sum. best dim sum in the city?

could be

silver dragon invented ginger beef funny the two dishes calgary famous for cesar's and ginger beef both created with in blocks of each other.

in terms of the ginger beef it's softer than what you commonly find with a thicker batter. personally i like it spicier and harder fried.

in terms of the dim sum only issue is showing up early enough to get a table love the selection and remember you are not limited to the offerings on the carts they make to order as well
