it is one of the authentic stops in the little tokyo strip. you know it is when a number of its diners are japanese. we celebrated my brother's birthday here a few weeks back, and despite our big number (20 plus of us with kids), they were able to accommodate as well.

if you are in search for the freshest sashimi and sushi in town, serynagot you covered. we ordered platters of maguro (tuna), salmon, uni, ika (squid), and tamago (egg). some of this raw seafood was served in a hotpot. it was a delicious soup, full of natural flavors. i also loved their version of spicy tuna salad.

our table also got appetizers. we had a healthy fix of edamame, agadeshi tofu, and gyoza. i personally paired it with lightly seasoned japanese fried rice. we also got yasai itame or stir-fried vegetables and fried mackerel.

overall, our lengthy stay here was memorable. it was like we were in one of the restaurants in japan. i highly recommend you visit as well.

unlike the neighboring japanese restaurants, serynaoffers quality food in a clean setting. their lunch bento boxes are the best value in town, and heavy for even the big eaters out there. their wagyu cubes are legit; melt in your mouth and full of flavor. these are also available for purchase frozen.

upon entering seryna, you know that you are in an authentic japanese restaurant. it also has a dress code to take note(no slippers nor sleeveless shirts for men).

let's get to the food!
the highlight ofserynain my opinion is their high quality sushi and sashimi. the freshness of the ingredients used made every dish worth the price. of the many choices available, we're able to try out the following:
matsu (p980), a platter consisting of 8 different kinds of sushi (tuna, salmon, uni, salmon roe, etc.) nanaten mori (p860), another platter consisting 7 different kinds of sashimi (tuna, salmon, octopus, etc.)
oo-toro (p1,800), 5 pcs fatty tuna which melts in your mouth literally! worth trying even though it was very pricey.

visitedserynaearlier on a thursday night, so it wasn't really that packed. upon entering, you can already feel the night japan life. love the ambience, there may be dark areas but some are really filled with pops of light. ordered their uni sashimi, chicken teriyaki, ebi tempura, and fried rice. their uni sashimi is so fresh! i love love love it. it may be pricy, but it's worth every penny. the chicken teriyaki has sizzles which is fascinating. it tasted scrumptious as well, my favorite chicken teriyaki so far. the ebi tempura had the perfect amount of batter- crunchy! just the way i like it. the food was delicious, but the service wasn't. some servers may be very friendly, but some were just snobbish and didn't give the japanese feel in the restaurant. hope they could work on that, but overall, it was a great experience. will defiantly come back next time with more foodserynahas to offer.

stopped byserynafor their sushi, but stayed for dinner instead. they really do have one of the best sushi in the area - fresh and never frozen.

ordered a couple of other things too like ebi tempura and yakitori. there were so-so. the tempura was nicely cooked, but the shrimps were just way to small for its price. the yakitori was bland, and the beef tongue was particularly tough.

our visit toserynawas a planned trip so we were able to reserved a few days before. as you know, meals in the little tokyo area require a reservation.

we were pretty overwhelmed with their extensive food choices. just like any other japanese meal, we started with a sashimi platter (san ten mori or 3 kinds of assorted sashimi). all types tasted fresh and the serving was just enough for 2-3 people. we also ordered 5pcs kushiyaki moriawase or grilled assorted skewers + buta bara or skewered pork belly. the platter mostly include different chicken parts. all the skewers (including the pork belly) were a bit dry. my friend also got chirashi sushi or sashimi mix on sushi rice. i didn’t like it because i’m not fond of eating sashimi with rice. we also ordered sushi but i forgot what it’s called. not sure if it’s salmon roll but it had salmon wrapped in it and grilled fish on top each piece. i like the taste and texture of the sushi and the grilled fish gives it a little crunch when you chew it. my friends ordered other dishes - eel and spicy salmon. despite eating a lot of different dishes, i’m still hungry so i ended up ordering ebi tempura and a cup of rice.

we were supposed to have lunch today in izakaya kikufuji but the place was packed so we decided to tryserynaout instead. i must say thatserynadid not disappoint!

food was great! we ordered the spicy salmon sashimi, spicy tuna roll, buttered oysters and 5pcs. ebi tempura. food serving was fast and efficient and the staff was very accommodating. the ambiance and the interiors elevated the dining experience even if we had to eat at the communal table. we will definitely be back!

definitely a must try for those who love japanese food.serynaoffers authentic japanese food. the moment you step inside the restaurant, it's like you are in japan already. the place is always packed, so it's best to call for reservations. we went on a sunday thinking there wouldn't be a lot of people, but we were wrong so we had to wait for a few minutes to get seated. the food is delicious, and their lunch sets are really value for money. average cost per head would php500 minimum.

ordered goten mori, gindara teriyaki, and saikoro steak.

the sashimi i think approaches the best i have tasted in japan. a little wasabi on the chopsticks, dipped in the soy, and then placed on the sashimi. you can taste the freshness of the sashimi without getting too much soy on the meat.

the gindara and the steak were both melt in the mouth. subtle flavours from the sauce and marinade do not distract the palate from the taste of the fish and beef.

the waitress who took our orders was superb. helpful and knowledgable. the other staff were however showing the effects of a long day.

it is not cheap but worth every cent. i understand whyserynahas got a 4.7 out of 5 rating on zomato.

been toserynaprobably thrice now and during all my visits, the place was packed! probably one of the really authentic japanese restaurant i have been to. serving the traditional sashimi and bento, serynafocuses more on the freshness and the technique on how they prepare their dishes. the place also feels like you are eating at one of the restos in japan!

known for their value for money lunch bentos, serynawould always be a staple in terms of authentic japanese restaurants in the country. yes it's a must try for you to get the staples of sashimis, tempuras, but we took a chance in one teppanyaki which is the saikoro steak ( meat cut into cubes) it definitely didn't disappoint.  price points may be a bit high, but definitely worth every peso spent on this joint.

continuing our little tokyo visit, we headed toserynafor lunch.

we arrived right when the restaurant opened. three kinds of seating were available. first is the lowered seating you see in the photo above. next is the normal seating. last is the few seats at the sushi bar.

complementary hot or cold tea is available. we ordered three different lunch bento sets which all come with soup, salad, fruit, and rice.

the sushi chef in action! you get to see your sushi and sashimi orders being prepared here. excited to see my kaizen gozen lunch set.

kaizen gozen bento

two layer bento box. the top layer has mixed sashimi and shredded radish. the second layer had the vinegared rice, tamago, and some ginger. it my first time to try some of the sashimi in the bowl since my previous sashimi experience only involved tuna and salmon. uni , salmon roe, two other fish sashimis, were served in the box.

sukiyaki bento

sweet, tangy, tender beef strips make up their sukiyaki. the amount of beef and the taste is sure to leave one full and satisfied.

sabayaki bento

for those who prefer (cooked) fish, they also offer three kinds of grilled fish. we ordered the mackerel one.

i would also like to add that the grapes in their sets were the one of the sweetest i ever tasted. serves as the perfect fruit dessert. we definitely had a filling meal.

to close out our little tokyo series, here is a photo of their wine wall. cheers to more lunches like this!
