sea captain's house

overpriced. the food and atmosphere was lovely. we ordered the grouper which was good and the lobster which was $40 for just the tail! hush puppies were a nice touch but we would not go back because the food was mediocre and overpriced.

myrtle beach favorite. my family has been going to the sea captains for 20+ years. the she-crab soup is the best ever. we love it and hope to enjoy it again soon.

2 out of 5 stars will not return.. the service was slow, cold food, steak was not very good, kid burger tasted like rubber, broiled shrimp had no flavor, scallops ordinary at best and again cold, shecrab soup was good but not enough crab in it for $4.95 a cup.

great good and great service. a little on the pricey side but you know that going in so it shouldn't come as a shock. the location makes it all that much better.

good seafood. hush puppies are a must! i wore a t-shirt and shorts...great service! i had the grouper special and my family had other seafood items...all were very good. the atmosphere and views out the back to the ocean were cool too! desert looked good but ran out of room...enjoy!

really good food! i had the crab cakes. everything was great from start to finish!

we always get a fresh meal here. wonderful shrimp salad and hush puppies. never had a bad meal. by far one of the best seafood restaurants on the beach and great atmosphere

horrible service, horrible food, avoid if you don't look like everyone else in the restaurant!!!!. i am writing this review to make sure my voice is heard:

if you come into this "fancy " eatery looking like you belong, you probably will get great service, unlike the one we had. i wasn't even wearing anything remotely beach-like even. it was a proper shirt and shorts and my company had similar. but i guess it was not enough to assure the server or the one who seat us we are legit customers. we first sat at the bar, which was not cleaned or ready from the shift before, the bartenders and multiple others kept passing boxes around us and over our head. when we tried to order drinks, they rolled their eyes and made us wait for 15 mins before even serving us and told us we should sit at the table since they can't handle serving us food when real crowds comes.

food: for dinner, i ordered the grouper and my friend ordered meat something. i don't know about his food but my fish was overcooked to the death, not seasoned, and taste like it has been dead for years (aka, extremely fishy, you know the taste of fish when it rots?). i mean how hard is it to broil a fish correctly for a restaurant that is supposely be a "great" seafood eatery!! btw, the skin was rubbery too and kind of slimy. i couldn't even finish my food, but i didn't want to send it back because i just want to get out of there, which was delayed for half an hour since our server is much more interested in the table of nice gents next to us and kept ignoring us. wow, i mean at least try to pretend that we are people too, right? just because we forgot the golf shirts at home... 27 bucks for a rotten, unedible fish is still nowhere close to the service we got though.

bottom line: worst service ever in my life!!!!! horrible fish for a seafood place, i can make a better fish in the microwave.

advice: dress like you belong in their fancy restaurant of nice gents and ladies from the 1950s. hey, who say discrimination is dead should really try this place!!

neutral. the hushpuppies are bar none the highlight of this place, indescribably soft and delicious. the brunch stands out as well
the fries and the shrimp are good to. this place is a tad underwhelming though. oysters are barely average . if you get fish, don't get it fried/ you have been warned. not the most friendly staff either. its a decent place, but not much more than that.

not a fan at all. we waited at the bar until seated and the bar tender was cursing and did not wait on us. once seated we weren't told about any specials or asked if we had been there before. i ordered seared yellowfin tuna and my husband ordered filet. the crab dip appetizer had shells in it. the entrees were both overcooked and under seasoned. $100.00 meal for two that was a complete waste of money.

my wife and i tried the sea captains house last year based on the recommendation of a trusted friend. we still trust him. when we travel to the beach we make every attempt to locate the best fried oysters available. the sea captains house was the best last year and the best again this year. service was good food was excellent. we ate on monday and came back again today on thursday. we did not realize they closed at 2:30 and reopened at 4:00 and we arrived at 2:48. we decided to sit in the swing behind the sea captains house and enjoy the ocean view until they 4:00. looking forward to the oysters.

nice ambiance & the only hush puppies i've ever liked. but the goodness stops there. my first thought when the server put the crab cake appetizer before us was, "huh, silver dollar pancakes." my husband ordered the pecan encrusted grouper. there was no taste of pecans and the grouper was not encrusted. it was bathed in butter to likely disguise the fact it was dry. i ordered the avocado crab and shrimp salad. i'm fairly certain the shrimp were not fresh and certainly they were overcooked. the view is lovely. unfortunately the food was not.

a must when visiting mb. skip the all you can eat buffets! this is quality seafood with a wonderful staff. love the clam chowder.

it is quite pricey for an entree, however, the portions are huge. you do get your money's worth. the atmosphere is amazing, decor speaking. the waitresses look very goofy but service was good. they do close at 10pm which seems early. it's not a place to frequent but it's a nice mean, nonetheless, and you can escape the smelly buffets for a lovely sit-down meal. perhaps my only real negative is that it was very loud. the smooth jazz background music was not enough to cover up the chatter of the dining crowd. overall, loved it, though.
